Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Chihuahua (short coat). Oy Chihuahua!! That's me, Buddy! I am an excellent companion dog, only about 7 years old and the most loveable, sweetest little fellow you'll ever meet! Part of my irresistible cuteness is that sometimes my tongue hangs out because I'm missing a few teeth! I'm seeking a wonderful home where I can share all of this love! I have a heart murmur that requires me to take a daily pill (which only costs $20/month). I can't be neutered because of my heart murmur, so therefore I pee on things. I'm also crate and house trained, up to date on my shots and I get along with other dogs and cats. If you are looking for a gentle, little lap dog then please fill out my adoption application and one of the kind folks here at AMMF will be in touch soon! Our adoption process is below: 1. Submit an application and it will be processed, evaluated and we will contact the vet and personal references; 2. All other applications that have been submitted on Buddy will also be processed (best suited applicant is chosen, not first come first serve); 3. Schedule a home visit; and 4. Adoption is finalized when the best-fitting home is found for Buddy. If you have young children and/or other pets and everyone gets along, Buddy will be able to stay at your home and do a foster to adopt for about a two-week trial period. If all is going well after the trial period, the adoption will then be finalized. Our adoption fee for Buddy is $150.00.

Chihuahua

Overview: The Chihuahua is a tiny bundle of joy. Kids love him ' and for good reason. This breed seems always excited about something. They do best as an indoor dog, but they love to scamper around in the yard ' in suitable weather.
Breed Group: Toy
Weight (lbs): 6
Height (in): 6-9
Colors: Any.
Coat: Smooth with soft, glossy hair or long with soft straight or wavy coat and fringed ears.
Character: Chihuahuas are very intelligent little dogs that are much more brave than their small size suggests. They often bond with only one person.
Temperament: This breed usually lives with other dogs and cats very easily. Children should be taught how to play with this small dog as many try to treat it as a toy.
Care: The Chihuahua requires occasional grooming with a brush and comb. Trim claws and check teeth on a regular basis. Care of the long coat entails brushing 2 to 3 times a week.
Training: This breed is eager to learn, so don't let the small size deter you from properly training him.
Activity: Chihuahuas can typically get sufficient exercise by playing indoors.
Country of Origin: Mexico
Health Issue: This breed has a short nose and large eyes, which can cause some problems (e.g., wheezing, dry eye, glaucoma). They are prone to slipped stifle, gum problems, colds, stress, and rheumatism.
Life Expectancy: about 15 or more

More About Chihuahua Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Breed: Ori-Pei

Posted Breed: Shar Pei / Pug / Mixed (short coat). My name is Zena, but I'm affectionately known as Zena Bean. Wagging my tail is my absolute favorite thing to do; and it's contagious, too! When my foster mommy gets excited, she even does a "zena wag" herself. I am an amazingly cute pug and shar pei mix. I am approximately 3 years old and I simply ADORE all people. I enjoy walks and even jogging with my foster mom. After a long walk, you can always find me airing out in front of the fan. I love the way the wind feels in my hair! I am fully vetted, crate trained and house trained. Did I mention I smile all time? I simply just love to be with my people. And, I am great with kids! The worst day of my life is when my family surrendered me to All Mutts Matter. They had a toddler whom I absolutely adored, but they said that I was "too much" for them. But I can't understand why too much loving is a bad thing! I wish they were able to keep me and love me, but instead, I ended up with All Mutts Matter. And, while I love my foster mom, I would really like to have a forever family that I can call my own! In the interest of full disclosure, I need to be an only dog. I do not like or get along with other dogs and cats. My foster mom thinks it’s because i was never properly socialized. I am a work in progress, and I am correctable in public. I am just not ready to co exist with another dog or kitty. I believe I will find my true happy ending with a wonderful family that I will spend the rest of my life with. Will you take me home and love me forever?

Posted Breed: Boston Terrier / Cattle Dog / Mixed (medium coat). Hello Everyone! My name is Charles and I am available to a most perfect home! I'm a senior southern gentleman. I was found wandering as a stray in Smyth County Virginia. I was in pretty poor condition when I was found. Through the tender care of the vet and my foster mom, I am doing pretty well! I love to eat, I enjoy watching my foster siblings play. I would be best with other dogs who are not too fast or rambunctious. I'm good with all adults. I prefer older children because I'm deaf and my sight isn't so good, so the young ones with their zipping and zooming are a bit startling to me. I am pretty well potty trained. I do need monthly visits with a patient and kind vet as I have a chronic ear infection that my current vet keeps under control with a depot antibiotic that is placed monthly in my ear canal. I do have hair missing on my back and around my neck, which my foster mom says is my badge of survivorship of some hard times in my life. Despite all this, I enjoy being in a home and love getting head scratches and pets. Please consider giving me a forever home. I will love you for the rest of my life! Just visit AMMF's website at www.allmuttsmatter.org and fill out an adoption app if you're interested in meeting me!
