Posted Breed: Feist / Chihuahua / Mixed (medium coat). Rosalee is a beautiful buff colored girl with a medium coat. She’s a quiet girl who is looking for a quiet home with adults who enjoy daily walks and a warm lap to call her own. Rosalee is well mannered, crate and leash trained, and gets along well with other dogs and cats. Because Rosalee is so quiet, she prefers a home without small kids but anyone over the age of 12 is fine. Rosalee walks well on a leash, loves car rides, and prefers to sleep with her mother and person but will go anywhere you ask her. Rosalee will take some time to warm up to her new family, but if you give her time and lots of treats she will become your very best friend. She is looking for a home with her mother Chrissy. Rosalee is looking for a new home due to no fault of her own. Her family is not home enough to give her the time she needs. She is 5 years old and weighs 25#. If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Lucy & Ellie...

      verified

      rescue
      Breed: Maltese
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: Battle Ground, WA
Posted Breed: Maltese (long coat). Ellie and her sister Lucy would prefer to be adopted together, they are litter mates. The girls are good with adults but have never been exposed to children so that would have to be tested. While they sometimes bark more than necessary they will quiet down when corrected. They will bark at strange dogs but soon make friends as long as the other dogs are not aggressive. They are house trained, come when called and will trot into their crate when told “It’s doggie bedtime”. They walk well on leash and do not need a fenced yard. If loose, once used to you, they will come when called. They are 4 years old. Lucy weighs 6# and Ellie weighs 8#. If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an adoption application.

      Age: Adult
      Location: Battle Ground, WA
Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever (short coat). Sadly, Tonka’s owner is no longer able to care for him and he is living with family members who already have 3 dogs of their own, so it’s sort of a strain for them. Tonka is mostly outdoors but is house trained and crate trained. He loves children and will play whenever he can. He does well with other dogs but has no track record with cats. If you think you can give this sweet senior boy his final home please fill out an adoption application. He is 7 years old and weighs 75#. Breed: Doodle
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Senior
      Location: Battle Ground, WA
Posted Breed: Dachshund / Poodle (Miniature) / Mixed (medium coat). Buddy just lost the love of his life and is going to need a new momma or daddy who will let him sit next to them and take care of them. His momma’s family has other dogs that don’t appreciate his presence so he must find his own niche. Buddy is up to date on his shots, is neutered and house trained. He has a sweet personality, a little stand offish until he gets to know you though. He had a back injury when young and his owner spend thousands of dollars to get him back on his feet. He is okay with children but they would need to be respectful of the fact that he has had a back injury. Cats are an unknown quantity. He is 13 years old and weighs 12#. If you would like to be the first one to offer this guy his new forever home please fill out an app on our website ASAP. If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an adoption application.

      rescue
      Breed: Chihuahua-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Young
      Location: Battle Ground, WA
Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat). Arlo is a happy boy whose tail wags the minute I enter a room. He has lots of energy so a fenced yard is a must. He loves running around the yard being chased. He also thrives with a companion – see picture - so it would be great for him to be adopted into a home where there is another dog. He is very quick to learn – learned the doggie door in one day. He also likes to lie in the sun, watch outside, and go for walks! He is protective and great with women. He is timid at first when meeting new people. He is very leery of men. Arlo is microchipped. He is 1 1/2 years old and weighs 15#. Toto

      Breed: Chihuahua
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: Battle Ground, WA
Posted Breed: Chihuahua (short coat). Toto is looking for a nice quiet home with a warm lap, lots of attention and not a lot of excitement.. Toto was rescued from an elderly woman’s home who was placed in the hospital, then hospice and then passed away. Toto is a wonderfully outgoing, loyal, loving little man. When he is happy he jumps straight up on the air. Always a wagging tail and ready kisses. His nickname is Toto tootsie roll as he readily rolls over for tummy rubs. But he seems to be a one person dog. He has bonded with me but still after 11 months in my home he will not allow my daughter to touch him. So I am thinking that it will take a bit of adjustment time. He is house trained and is good for 4-6 hours at a time if necessary. He was abused by a man and doesn’t do well with men. He had a full dental in November 2015. He has no bad habits and currently lives with 2 older small dogs. He has lived with larger dogs in the past without any problems. But it has been my experience that he really doesn’t like larger dogs than him. What makes him special needs is that both of his knees go in and out and he has a heart murmur which is not uncommon in small dogs. He is 6-8 years old and weighs 6-8 pounds. If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an adoption application.

      Opal

      rescue
Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: Battle Ground, WA
Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Opal is a very sweet, very timid girl. She was found as a stray so all we know for certain is that she’s had at least one litter of puppies. Opal has been in foster care for a while and is doing well. She likes going to the dog park and playing chase so another active dog in the home would be ideal. She’s very affectionate and takes treats like she can’t believe her good fortune. She does have some allergies we are still trying to identify and will need a good quality food. She is frightened by sudden movements and loud noises so she wouldn’t do well with children, although her reaction is simply to run and hide. She is also afraid of men but may warm up in time. She will bark at cats but has never tried to harm one and she is housebroken. We’ve been working on socialization and new experiences but Opal may never be a confident, outgoing dog. However, she will reward her new protector with love, kisses, and a snuggle buddy at bedtime. We think she is about 4-5 years old and she weighs 55#. If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an adoption application.
