Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 150.00. Please contact Pet (information@pethelpersinc.org) for more information about this pet. Buster doesn't understand why he has been at his foster home for almost 2 years. His foster mom loves him but knows he deserves a home to call his own. He came to us in 2014 from a shelter in the southern part of the state. He is a good, sweet, very smart boy that really likes to play and gets along great with the other dogs in his foster home. We believe he is possibly a heeler chihuahua mix and he is about 12lbs. He loves a yard to play and run in and would do best with a fenced yard. He is house trained and crate trained. Buster has been neutered, wormed and flea treated. If you would like to make this cutie part of your family please email adoptionisforever@pethelpersinc.org, his adoption fee is 150.00 For more information on this animal email adoptionisforever@pethelpersinc.org. Pet Helpers is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit foster based volunteer rescue located in Fairmont, WV. We do adopt out of state to approved applicants, if you are willing to drive to WV to pick up your pet. We do not fly or use transport companies. Our adoption fee is $150.00 for mixed breed puppies and adult dogs, $225.00 for full blooded puppies and adult dogs and $50.00 for cats and kittens. Regardless if the animal is a mixed breed or full blooded they are spayed/neutered prior to adoption IF they are old enough. If they are too young at the time of adoption, then it is your financial responsibility to spay/neuter the pet by the age of 6 months and you must provide proof for our files that it has been done. All of our pets are checked by a vet, given the shots appropriate for their age and any other treatment deemed necessary by the vet. All of our pets are adopted as indoor pets and are not be outdoors tied to a box 24/7. The pet you are adopting has been living in a home with a foster family. You are expected to take possession of the pet you are applying for within a few days of application approval. This will enable us to accept another pet into that home. Because we are a rescue, and believe that spaying and neutering is crucial in stopping the reproduction of unwanted puppies/kittens and massive amounts of animals dying daily in shelters across the country, we expect any animal already in your home to be spayed/neutered. If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Location: USA
Posted Breed: English Coonhound / Mixed (short coat). Please contact Pet (information@pethelpersinc.org) for more information about this pet. Remember Hank?? Hank continues to search for his forever home. He has been in foster care since December when his owner abandoned him, and he was pulled him from a kill shelter. Hank is a very lovable eight year old hound. He loves cuddles on the couch, and he loves constant attention. He plays well with other dogs. Hank is a special needs dog. He is blind in one eye, and he sometimes has a little difficulty with depth perception. This disability causes him to get under one's feet, but he means no harm. Due to his food aggression, Hank would do best if placed in a home without other animals. Definitely a home without cats!! He needs a loving home to live out his senior years in luxury. If you are willing to give this senior dog a chance, email adoptionisforever@pethelpersinc.org. He is being fostered in Clarksburg, WV. Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat). Please contact Pet (information@pethelpersinc.org) for more information about this pet. Minnie, Harley, Chip and Rocky came from a Kentucky hoarding situation. When we first brought them home they would not even come out of their crates. They are still scared, but we are making a lot of progress. They get along great with other small dogs, they are now following me all around the house, and they absolutely LOVE toys. However, they aren't really sure yet of other humans and being touched. They are all under 2 years old, all under 7 lbs, and cute as buttons. With some time and patience, they will make their person a very loyal and loving friend. They are all available for adoption. We would prefer someone with some rescue experience, as it is going to take a good deal of patience, understanding, and some one on one time to get them to where they need to be. Their adoption fee is $150.00. They have been vaccinated, spayed, neutered, wormed, and flea treated. Posted Breed: Rottweiler / Mixed (short coat). Please contact Pet (information@pethelpersinc.org) for more information about this pet. Ava is a 2 year old Rottie mix who was an unclaimed stray. We believe she has been an outside dog but picked up the crate training and house training really fast. She is around 40-45 pounds, vaccinated, spayed, wormed and flea treated. She has learned to sit in just a couple of sessions so she will be easily trained if you take time to work with her. She is a little high energy at times so she will likely do best with an active family who can give her plenty of exercise. Ava is used to a fenced yard so she still needs some leash work. Ava would love to have a running partner or someone who likes to hike. She loves to run but also likes to snuggle once her energy is burned off. Ava would prefer to be an only dog so she can have all of the attention but she does well with non-dominant similar sized dogs if given time to adjust. Ava is fostered in Fairmont, WV, adoption fee is $150. Email adoptionisforever@pethelpersinc.org for an application. For more information on this animal email adoptionisforever@pethelpersinc.org. Location: USA
Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 150.00. Please contact Pet (information@pethelpersinc.org) for more information about this pet. This adorable chihuahua is Charlie...aka Charles Jasper. He did not have a good start in life but a wonderful lady at Pet Helpers saved him and his brother from an abusive home and he got a new lease on life. Sadly after several years he is still afraid of men. Children also make him nervous, so his ideal forever home would be a home with females only. A quiet home without a lot of traffic in and out. And a home with patience and lots of love to give. Once you earn this boys trust he will be your best friend. He does well with other dogs and cats. Charlie is approx 5 years old neutered, up-to-date on shots and flea treated. He is also crate trained and as long as you stay on top of him and are diligent about letting him out does pretty well with the house breaking. If you are patient loving and kind and willing to give this sweet boy the loving home he deserves then please request an application at adoptionisforever@pethelpersinc.org his adoption fee is 150.00 For more information on this animal email adoptionisforever@pethelpersinc.org. Posted Breed: Boxer / Mixed (short coat). Please contact Pet (information@pethelpersinc.org) for more information about this pet. ~~This handsome boxer is Duke! He is almost 2 years old. Duke came to us several months ago weighing only 33 pounds...he now weighs between 50-55 pounds. After a few false starts, we finally discovered Duke has an abnormally small liver making it difficult for his body to process proteins in his diet. Therefore, Duke must eat a specially formulated food and take a liver supplement daily for the rest of his life; cost is approximately $150.00 per month. As you can see, he is full of energy and plays like a pup, he has that wonderful boxer body wiggle often. He loves to snuggle up to his human and sleep with his head right next to yours...he is a true sweetheart. Duke loves everyone, both 2 and 4 legged. He is fostered in Fairmont, WV, adoption fee has been sponsored.
