Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat). Friendly little Wayne was found wandering the streets of Irving and hanging out by an elementary school. Wayne proved to be very friendly and sweet with kids and won the heart of his current foster. Wayne shares his foster home with other small dogs and does great. He is receiving treatment for heartworms in June and will be ready for adoption by mid-late July 2015. Dogs in our foster care program are: spayed/neutered microchipped up to date on all vaccinations negative for heartworms and on regular heartworm preventative in loving foster care homes where they have received training and socialization to help them fit into your home more quickly. There are a few steps to set up the adoption. Complete the PAWS4IrvingAnimalsAdoptionAppContract. You can type in the information, but must initial each of the statements and then print/sign it. You can then send it back as a PDF to PAWSforIrvingAnimalsLLC@gmail.com or fax it to 214-764-2138. If you are meeting us at an event, you can complete the application at the event itself. We can also bring an application to you at the home visit. Schedule a home visit. After the adoption application is received, a volunteer from PAWS for Irving Animals will visit your home with the pet you are interested in adopting. We will ensure that the pet you are interested in has the opportunity to meet all the members of your immediate family, including other pets, to ensure that this adoption is a good fit. We can even do a trial adoption for a period of up to 3 days if you would like. Pay the adoption fee. The adoption fee is $200 for dogs under 12months and $150 for dogs over 12 months of age. The adoption fee covers many elements: full vetting (spay, vaccinations, etc), registration of microchip to you, etc. You have 3 options for payment: Via check. This can be either given to foster/volunteer at adoption hand-off or mailed as a check made out to "PAWS for Irving Animals" with "Adoption - DOG NAME" in the memo line. The check can be given to PAWS representative at time of adoption. Online at http://www.pawsforirvinganimals.org/get-involved/donate/. Select "adopt" in the donation options box and select $150 as the amount. You can pay via PayPal as a "Friends & Family" transfer to PAWSforIrvingAnimalsLLC@Gmail.com

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Staffordshire Bull Terrier / Boston Terrier / Mixed (medium coat). Adoption Fee: $150. Dear Darla. She is a 2.5 year old staffordshire bull terrier/boston terrier mix of sorts, but we call her a bonafide beauty! Darla has had a very rough life so far , but we're here to help her change her life around. It seems Darla was use for breeding, and nothing more. We suspect she's never known true love us humans give our pets. She was picked up as a stray in Irving, Texas and was at the shelter for a few weeks before PAWS stepped up for her. Once we placed her into a foster home, she started show signs of fear and anxiety. We didn't know what caused her to act out, but we knew we had to put her through intense training. She left her foster home, and went into board and train where she learned to cope with some skills until she could find another foster suitable for her behavior. We were able to locate a foster willing to help her transition back into a home care when we noticed she was still having behavior issues, but not with the personal foster. Her foster parents knew she had something special, and we couldn't give up on her yet. She joined her foster family who put intense care, training, and stability into her life to make her the dog she is today. She's still not your typical dog who loves other animals and humans, but who's to blame her when she's never known a family? She's learning how to cope with her skills, and being prepared to take on the world! Darla exceeds our expectations every day, and we know someone is out there looking for her! Darla would do best with no other animals or children in the home because she loves the 1 on 1 attention as the pretty princess she is! She would need to go to an experienced owner who understands that she needs to continue structure and leadership. Darla LOVES going for car rides, walks, and sleeping on the couch. When she begins to trust you, you'll know what it means about undying love and devotion. Darla is the type of dog who is independent, but beyond loyal to you. She would protect and defend you. Darla is one of a kind, but when you give a dog your loyalty, she will reward you 1000 times back with her love. Darla is a special girl who needs time, patience, and love. Once you'd meet her, you'd instantly understand what type of girl she is. IMPORTANT: This animal is NOT at Irving Animal Shelter. Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult

Posted Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier / Staffordshire Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: $150. Looking for a new cuddle buddy for football Sunday or a netflix binge? Meet Maggie Moo! Maggie Moo is a 6-7pittie mix female who LOVES to snuggle. Maggie Moo is probably the most gentle spirit you've ever met. She has a very easy-going, low key personality - she's just happy to be by your side. Maggie Moo can be a little shy on her own, so she really likes to be around other dogs - she watches them to learn the rules of the house and which humans offer the best treats. If she can't be with other dogs, she likes to have a soft, stuffed toy by her side for confidence. Maggie Moo is quiet by nature, and walks very easily on the leash. It's so easy to fall in love with this mild-mannered sweetie. IMPORTANT: This animal is NOT at Irving Animal Shelter.
