Posted Breed: Chocolate Labrador Retriever / Shar Pei / Mixed (short coat). ~~Breed: chocolate Labrador Retriever-main breed Color: Brindle Age: Adult Size: Med. 40lbs Nala means the loved one in an African language: Cocoa Nala is a chocolate lab and Shar Pei mix, approx. 2 years old. Cocoa Nala is fully housebroken, She is roughly 42lbs, and has a gorgeous soft coat Cocoa Nala is scared of some men, so she takes a little while to warm up. we have been working with her here to meet every person who visits the rescue and have everyone give her a treat and it is working really well. She is developing trust again with all people. When she receives a treat, she will lick the givers hand. she is an awesome dog and just needs a patient family or woman who will work with her. She loves her country walks and looks forward to them every day. Housebroken, knows basic commands, a slap happy girl who loves life, cuddles and hugs and will make a loyal companion for the right family. She has bonded really well to my personal chow-shepard mix so she will do well as an only dog or as a companion with a gentle male as a mentor Cocoa Nala will make an excellent watch dog and will be sure to let you know when strangers are about. Nala does love living in the country and we would love to see her go into a home on land and where her family will take her for walks or runs in the woods and fields. Cocoa Nala is spayed, microchipped, current on all vaccines and rabies. we regularly treat her for worms and parasite as a control. We would also like to see her new owners continue her training and enroll her in a good dog behavioral training school. she is intelligent and learns quickly.

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Katies is a soft fluffy white, darker eyes and the sweetest demeanor. Katie needs a young adult companion dog for mentoring and friendship. Katie is currently in foster care and enjoys following her foster mom all over the house and when she is in the yard gardening. Katie is the quintessential lap dog. she is still young, so she will need plenty of chew toys for teething and walks and playtime to burn off her energy. Katie is curious and playful and loves to cuddle close. She also likes to have her mom to cuddle with and to follow around. She is smart and will train easily. No children, children frighten the dogs. Katie is leash trained and loves her daily excursions to the parks in and around Kirkland Wa. Goldie is Katie's mom and has been through some trauma in life that makes her fear most people. Whoever adopts Goldie and Katie as a pair, gets rewarded with a perfect playful affectionate turnkey dog in Katie. Posted Breed: Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Sierra Sierra is a sweet, shy girl who has come a long way from the puppy we first rescued. Sierra loves attention and has a wonderful smile when she is happy. Sierra Loves to roll over on her belly for rubs to be petted. she has the most incredible green eyes that just melt you. Sierra very much wants to be with her human and is a willing learner. she will need a very patient adopter who has the time and energy to work with her. Sierra has come a long way, she will be shy at first and will need some time to adjust, that being said, she is a total lover once she knows and trusts her humans. A yard will be a must so she can go outside as needed without needing to be on a leash for walks. A very secure fenced yard is critical with no way for her to dig out anywhere under. S he is curious about the outside world and learned how to dig under the fence at the rescue facility. she is not a city dog and would do best in a country setting. Sierra is housebroken and knows how to use a doggie door, she is easily trained, however, we have not had a chance to do any leash training with her, so she will need some work on this. Sierra would do well if there is another dog in the home to bond with as she is very much a pack animal and loves other dogs her size. She is a very loving affectionate, smart dog. Sierra is shy and a bit fearful of new people. She will do best in a quieter home that does not have a lot of people coming and going. Once she bonds with her humans, she is just the most loving girl and seeks out attention and affection. Sierra is 18 lbs pounds, so on the small side of medium. The adoption fee is $450.00 and covers all vaccines/spay/microchip/flea treatment/worming and parasite control, health cert and her rescue from the shelter. Posted Breed: Terrier / Mixed (short coat). JESSIE Jessie is a sweet 2.5 yr old Dachshund/Terrier or Dachshund-Minpin mix who was rescued on her last day in a high kill California shelter with her sister Trixie. She was an extremely emaciated and severely underweight. Jessie has gained weight and is a beautiful healthy happy girl now. Jessie is still very shy and will need her new family or person to be patient with her. She really wants to be a lap dog, will excitedly greet you when you come home, but will not quite stand still for petting-yet. In time and in a more quiet, permanent loving home, Jessie will come out of her shell and be the most loyal BFF. Jesse will need a fenced yard as we have been unable to leash train her for walking yet due to the shelter like environment. Jessie is approximately 15 pounds, shy, sweet, playful, curious and ready for her forever home. She gets along well with other dogs her size, but especially males and would love a big male to get to know. she currently is close to my 70lb Shepard and is his shadow. (so adopting Jessie as a second dog so she can have a mentor would be nice or as an only dog, so she can really bond with her people. Jessie loves to run in a big yard and since Dachshunds and Minpins tend to hold weight, exercise is as important as diet for keeping either fit and trim. Jessie will make a wonderful addition to a home with all adults, retired couple, or a single person who is looking for a smaller dog and will have the patience to work with Jessie as she continues to blossom.

Posted Breed: Dachshund / Fox Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Dobby Dobby is a sweet, shy little guy, who arrived at our rescue a couple months ago after back to back changes in his young life. Dobby is seeking a quieter home with adults who will be patient with him. He is known to love walks and do well on a lead. We think he is shyer than normal here at the rescue facility because it is very busy with puppies and a few adults who share Dobby's space. We feel, with a quieter, attentive home, he will thrive and come out of his shell. In the shelter, Dobby did well walking on a leash and was a cuddle boy. Dobby is on a human grade diet and has put on a bit of muscle and nice weight since arriving. Dobby is curious, sweet, and with the right humans, he will thrive and be your very best new friend. We are seeking an adult only home for this sweet boy. If you love the Dachshund breed and have patience and love to give this sweet boy, we encourage you to apply and meet him, He will be a very loyal BFF

Lola will do best with people who are home a lot and can be there to train her, guide her, give her a ton of exercise and the attention she needs and deserves. One condition of adoption for Lola, is she be required by contract to attend Obedience school, to be the best, well behaved dog she can be. Lola spent 8 weeks in the shelter and had no training during that period. While her foster is Taking her to weekend classes, we would like the adopting family to continue her training since her former owner did not do any. Lola learns very quickly, and is a willing student. she is always the dog used to teach the class a new lesson because she listens so well. Lola will need to go through all the levels and complete her certificate in the Canine Good Citizen Test. if adopted locally, she may continue with the same trainer Lola is eager to learn smart, focused and willing to please. she is such a great dog. She will make an excellent hiking partner, outdoor buddy, driving partner and gets along with other dogs. if you have another medium to larger, young dog who needs a buddy, Lola will be a great Fit! She was rescued by a California rescue who closed shop ands was going to send Nala back to a kill shelter, so we stepped up. Nala has fear barking, but once she warms up and knows you, she becomes a huge love bug, kisser. Nala is a good watch dog and will bark at strangers and always let you know someone is coming. She would do best in an all female home but warms up to a male partner who is dog savvy and will put in the time to love Nahla. Nahla would do really well in a quiet household with people who live on a bit of land off the beaten path. She is a true country dog. She loves everyone in her family once she knows and trusts them and will form tight bonds. She loves to walk and play, chase balls and go for truck rides. If you work from home even better. She will loyally stay by your side and protect you and love you unconditionally. Nala walks everywhere in the woods with us off leash and she listens well, and comes when called, even if she sees prey or deer. Nahla Would do best as a country dog and NOT and Urban diog. City noises, cars, loud sounds overwhelm her. she really loves running the acreage here at the rescue and being out on the hiking trails. To apply for and meet Nala: please fill out an online application: http://rompinpawsrescue.rescuegroups.org/forms Nahla is spayed, microchipped, current on all vaccines and rabies. We regularly treat her for worms and parasite as a control. We would also like to see her new owners continue her training and enroll her in a good, dog behavioral training school. Nala is intelligent and learns quickly, and is an eager student.
