More About Chug Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier / Mixed (medium coat). Okay folks, Champion is the epitome of what rescue is really all about! Champion was adopted from a high kill shelter in Houston, Texas as a puppy, only to be found on the streets roughly four years later. Battered, bruised and emaciated, it is hard to know all that this boy had to endure to stay alive. Riddled with mange and a broken heart, we felt it was our duty to provide this boy his second chance seeing as how he was not willing to give up on himself, despite the horrible odds he faced as an “unwanted.” Despite all that he has been through, Champion is a very sweet, loving dog that loves attention from people. He gives big kisses with his sizeable tongue. He likes to curl up on a dog bed or sleep or in an unoccupied, empty chair. He is a companion, a friend…he is THAT dog. Champion is encouraged to go into his crate with rewards. In case you cannot tell by his slight (but increasing) frame, he is very food motivated! Champion has not had any accidents in his foster home, but has been somewhat limited in his freedom since he is in the process of crate training. He sleeps through the night in his crate without making a sound and rides nicely in the car. Champion also enjoys roaming the back yard, including the indulgence of a leisurely nap in the sun. He plays well with a young and somewhat exuberant, 4-month old border collie foster puppy and even gives him kisses when both are being petted simultaneously. That being said, he has also put him in his rightful place a time or two (just as any good Uncle would do)! We feel that a home without feline companions would be best for Champion. Champion can pull on a leash if he is particularly interested or motivated in seeing something of interest to him, but generally walks well on a harness. Due to his most recent history, we are taking introductions with other adult dogs slowly until such time Champion has established trust and believes that he is finally safe. He has completed all of his initial vetting and will be preparing to go through his heartworm treatment at the expense of 2BABR once his weight has become more ideal for his size. His skin is improving and we look forward to sharing the before and after pictures of this amazing dog once his transformation is complete! All Champion needs now is an advocate; a friend or family that understands that life isn’t perfect, but can show him that hope exists. Love can conquer all…and ultimately right the wrongs of others. Champion has so much to share with that special someone who can look past the existence of his current rough exterior to see that same beautiful puppy that still exists and wants to be loved! Posted Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier / Mixed (medium coat). Give me a "B" for Barry!!! Big, Beautiful, Blue, Bully! Yep, that's me! Howdy folks! My name is Barry and I have sought the start of a new life here in Colorado after having somewhat of a rough start back in Houston, Texas. I am approximately 3 years of age and a very outgoing guy who loves the promise of adventure! I LOVE to go on walks to explore new places and meet new people! Because of my size and exuberance, I might do best in an adult home or a home with older children. In general, I am a "typical" bully. I am excited about the prospect of interacting with other canines, although I am a bold personality and am learning to control my approach to others -- I just get so excited! And, I have definite opinions about appropriate play/interaction with others. So, although I generally do not seek to start trouble, I love my people and can be protective of them on an as-needed basis. Although my exact history is unknown to my rescuers, they can tell that I was neglected; underweight and heartworm positive, they have worked hard to restore my beautiful coat, put on some much needed weight and are preparing me for heartworm treatment so that I may lead a long and healrhy life! Otherwise, I am a complete goofball! I am happy, go-lucky and am really looking forward to having new adventures here in Colorful Colorado with a new best friend! I am a "leaner" -- I love to be next to you and would love the opportunity to be a big 'ol love sponge in a house with a family of my own. My rescuers think that I would do best in a home with a yard in which to roam, explore and play. If you are interested in meeting me or learning more about me, please contact the nice ladies at 2BABR! I am excited to meet you! Posted Breed: Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Beauty is a very gentle soul. She is slow to trust humans but when she does she is so sweet! She is completely crate trained and knows that it is a safe place to go if she gets scared. She is house trained. Beauty loves to play with toys! She likes most dogs she has met- loves puppies immediately and once she gets to know big dogs they become friends too. She likes to run big circles and play chase with big dogs. Beauty is very particular about her kennel and her food around other dogs- she just wants them to be polite and not barge in. She does need to be fed alone, it makes her feel more secure. Beauty is great on a least and in a back yard! She loves being outside in the sun and exploring! Running might be too scary on a leash but she loves a good long walk and is a great walking partner! Once Beauty feels safe and secure she loves to snuggle. She is very low key in the house. When she starts to warm up she likes to approach slowly and give humans one single kiss on the nose. She has never shown any aggression toward humans, you can tell she wants to be loved and wants to be part of a family. She isn't so sure about small children- she prefers her environment to be much more peaceful and slower paced. Beauty's ears let you know what she is feeling and kinda look like yoda ears when she is calm and relaxed. Beauty is a beautiful dog and a great companion! She is ready to learn how to trust and how to give and receive all the love she deserves!
