Posted Breed: Cocker Spaniel (medium coat). If you are interested in adopting this beautiful cocker, please go to our website for more info: www.rockymountaincockerrescue.org/adopt-a-dog/adoption-information/ Janna is a warm, loving and somewhat shy senior, approx. 12 yrs old, who may have lived in a puppy mill. She was saved from euthanasia. Janna came to us late in 2014 with arthritic knees, mammary tumors, cherry eye, and infected ears. She successfully recovered from all her surgeries but still is battling ear infections, although she does not complain. This wonderfully curious little girl is learning to have a little fun. She would like to play but doesn’t really know how. She loves belly scratches and massages. She will give thank you kisses on your hand, and her tail never stops wagging. She loves to follow her humans around the house, and loves to be included in any activity. She can only handle only short walks due to her arthritis, but likes car rides. Janna likes dogs and cats. She would probably be more comfortable in a quiet home with a companion dog. Because of her age and physical condition she would not do well with toddlers. Our dogs are temporarily housed in pre-screened, loving foster homes while waiting their new forever home. They are also micro-chipped, groomed (if needed), and given a thorough professional veterinary exam to identify any health issues or potential issues. A.K.A. : American Cocker Spaniel, English Cocker Spaniel

More About Cocker Spaniel Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

She is a bit shy but once she is comfortable will come up to you and want to be petted and loved. Chloe is very bonded with her sister, Bridget 16-125-2. They like to lay together and groom each other. Chloe helps Bridget (who is vision impaired) get around by walking next to her and showing her the way. Chloe likes to go out for walks, but doesn't need a lot of exercise. Chloe was found wandering the streets with Bridget. She had a terrible ear infection when she arrived to RMCR. She was given oral medication and ear drops and since has greatly improved, however years of untreated ear problems has left Chloe almost fully deaf. As Chloe is Bridget's eyes, Bridget is Chloe's ears and always alerts her to what's going on. They are so cute together! Other than her hearing impairment, Chloe is a healthy and happy girl! She is very curious and likes to sniff everything but never barks or shows any sort of aggression. She is very bonded with her sister, Chloe 15-126-2, they like to lay together and groom each other. Bridget was found wandering the streets with Chloe and taken to a shelter, where RMCR stepped in. Bridget had her right eye removed on 11/23 due to advanced, untreated glaucoma. She has limited sight in her left eye. This does not stop Bridget from doing all the things dogs do! She still runs and plays and loves to go on walks with some guidance from Chloe, who will walk right next to her. Other than that Bridget is a happy & healthy little girl! If you are interested in adopting this beautiful cocker, please go to our website for more info: www.rockymountaincockerrescue.org/adopt-a-dog/adoption-information/ No one seems to know what breed I am, but I am a unique dog and very healthy. After spending several weeks in a shelter, I was saved just in time by Rocky Mountain Cocker Rescue because I told them I was a cocker-mix. Ha, I fooled them, but now I'm bored. They figured out that I'm a working dog with some herding tendencies. I’m as smart, if not smarter than Einstein and want so much to follow your lead, but need gentle and patient training and owners. When my human is inconsistent or indecisive about how to act around me. I might challenge until you learn that I am teaching you. Sometimes, when I guard things, you will need to distract me so I can walk away. I would love to learn tricks and run, climb and jump - I can even jump a 6 foot fence but will come back when you call my name. I’m just so curious about what’s going on in this big world. I don’t like retrieving balls nor having my hair brushed but I get glowing reports from the vet and groomers after taking some sedation meds first. Sometimes, when I get anxious, I love to sing. I was born to be active and need a good amount of daily exercise. Without regular, sufficient exercise and mental challenges, I get bored. I currently live with other dogs but I enjoy chasing them away. I get nervous and bark when they come running past me while I'm in 'my spot'. There are times when I'll use my nose and head to move them out of my way. I might even nip at their rear ends hoping they will “move-it-along”. I don't like other dogs near my food or bones so I need to be fed alone. I enjoy being with my pack of humans, but not with a pack of dogs. If I had to live with another dog, I would prefer calm and quiet sibling, but would rather have a human to call my buddy. I am very sociable and enjoy the company of all humans, but if you spend more time with me than others, I will bond with you more quickly. My favorite game is following my buddy everywhere. If you dig in the yard, I will make sure you are doing it right. If you go into the garage, I will sit by the door and wait for you to come out. If you spend time outside, I will stay close just in case you need anything. I love to jump into the car and join you when traveling, but when the car moves, I love to sing. I prefer humans over the age of 12, but when I am resting, please don’t disrupt me with a touch; a simple hello as you pass me by is best. I am looking for a forever home with humans young enough to provide me with a variety of activities and some jobs. I dream of living on a farm or a ranch, but a home in the suburbs with a large yard and a very tall fence would suit my fancy, also. I do not like being bored so if you think you have some activities for me, please take a chance on me and consider taking me home with you. Our dogs are temporarily housed in pre-screened, loving foster homes while waiting their new forever home. They are also micro-chipped, groomed (if needed), and given a thorough professional veterinary exam to identify any health issues or potential issues. He loves to follow you around the house, sit by you while you are working on the computer, or sit with you on the couch. He loves to be near his people! He is pretty much laid back and doesn't require a lot of maintenance. We keep him in a kennel when out for long periods as that is his 'safe' place. Gus barks when he hears noises or doors shutting, it is manageable, but possibly not appropriate for an apartment. Gus is a 2015 Alumni, returned due to family illness.
