Posted Breed: Collie / Mixed (medium coat). Hoarder Survivor Crate Trained LOVES other Dogs Great with Cats Arboe is a wonderful boy who is just learning to be a dog. He and his canine companions were rescued from a hoarder here in MN. He is great with other dogs, both large and small. He's even great with cats! His foster mom has him crate trained and Arboe is learning to walk on a leash. What a smart boy! Arboe does well on a tie out or fenced yard but he cannot be trusted with invisible fencing or off leash. He would be spooked and bolt - something no one wants. Arboe will need to be kept on a tie out, even inside a fenced area as he can easily climp and jump any height of fence. Arboe needs a home with a confident dog who will show him the ropes and continue his confidence building. Will you please be Arboe's angel? Click on the Adopt buttons below. or //

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Buddy

      rescue
      Breed: Lhasa Apso-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Senior
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Lhasa Apso / Mixed (medium coat). Adoption Fee $200 Hi there! My name is Buddy. I was surrendered by my owner who could not take care of me anymore. She said I was not good with kids. I really did not enjoy being in a dog shelter. When the dog shelter people would say my name in front of my cage, I would sit up and wave my paws up and down. I was trying to tell them I was ready to be adopted! I am so happy now to be fostered by a MARS volunteer and can't wait to find a great forever home to live out my golden years and keep someone wonderful company. I am a kind and sweet guy who likes affection. I have very bad cataracts so my vision is limited- but that doesn't slow me down. I am dreaming of being next to my forever person or people and hope you choose me! My foster mom says: "Buddy is such an easy little guy to care for. He always comes when called, never wanders off, never has accidents and sleeps very soundly. He's hilarious when he gets excited and does a funny dance where he looks like he's going to stand on his head. He loves to go on walks and does great on his leash. He has lost some sight, but it hardly seems to hinder him in getting around. I have 2 other small dogs and he gets along with them just fine. I would say he has even made friends with my terrier. He likes to sleep a lot, but other than that he is young for his age and I feel has a lot of good years left. He seems more patient with children than adults, but little kids are unpredictable and make him nervous". Please feel free to fill out an ADOPTION APPLICATION by clicking on the button below. Breed: Labrador Retriever-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Senior
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: $250 Burel, known as Charlie by his foster family, is one dignified gentleman! He's good with everyone he meets, is potty trained, and has great manners. He loves to spend time at the lake with his foster family and enjoys the occasional ride in the golf cart. He's up for a nice walk but can sometimes be a little slower moving at the end of a long day. He appears to have had a rough life prior to his time with us but he's regained some of the spring in his step and he'd love to have a family of his own to enjoy his retirement with. Burel has a lot to say about life so shared wall living would not be good for him. or //

      rescue
      Breed: Mutt
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Meet Ruby Dee! Ruby is one smart cookie and loves to keep busy! Check out her new videos where Ruby Dee shows off the tricks she's just learned, and her new agility training! Her ideal home would be with a single person owner that: Has owned and trained dogs in the past Will give her regular exercise Will be consistent and firm with training and mental activities Will work on leash reactivity and leash training Is possibly interested in agility training or something similar Ruby has been doing well at her current foster home. She is house trained and goes potty right away when she goes outside. During the day she gets free run of the house, but she is kenneled at night and eagerly runs in for her special bedtime treat! . Her favorite daytime hangout is on the back of the couch looking out the window according to the webcam! Ruby likely has some herding breed in her so she can be a bit reactive and uses her voice to communicate. She will bark and growl at her foster owners if she wants to play or if they’re doing something that she wants to be included in. Ruby loves to play with her humans and has a soft play bite. She sometimes plays with toys but not always. She will also bark at other dogs in the house and bump them with her butt to get them to play! This girl will do best in a home with no other dogs or ones that are on the calm side. She has had some preliminary exposure to cats, and she was cautious but curious - so, we think she may do well in a home with feline siblings. Ruby is as smart as they come and learned the following commands in no time flat: sit, shake, down, spin, and play dead! She LOVES these training opportunities and the mental stimulation really challenges and calms her! This girl knows the word "walk" and loves to go and does well on her walking harness, but she could use some work on being polite on a leash when she sees other dogs. She also loves to have some cuddle time on the couch, and will quickly curl up in a ball for a nap right next to her humans. Ruby does tend to get protective of her humans sometimes, so she needs people who are dog-savvy, know how to read doggy body language, and can be a strong leader to teach her good habits. Because of this protective nature, we would not recommend Ruby go to a home with children under 10 years old. Could your home be the forever home for Ruby Dee??? Posted Breed: Miniature Pinscher / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee - $200 Meet Ruby! Ruby (a.k.a. Lucy) is a very sweet girl. You couldn't tell she is a older gal because Ruby is full of life. She is good with people and dogs, and likes to chase kitties. She enjoys affection and being in your lap - just laying there and getting belly rubs. And, she's a champion cuddler! Ruby loves to go for walks. Her foster mom is working with her on resource guarding with food. Ruby is good with other dogs but doesn't like hyperactivity. She likes her own space. For that reason, she would do best in a home with no dogs or a very calm dog. Ruby hopes to find a nice person or family to call her own very soon. Breed: Pekingese
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Pekingese (long coat). Adoption Fee $300 Meet Charlie Chan! Charlie Chan was picked up as a stray and left unclaimed at a shelter. This little guy’s coat was extremely matted when he was brought in (these pictures were taken the same day). We could hardly get a collar over his head since he had fist-sized mats on his ears and under his chin. One of the local groomers took him and worked on him for 2 days, and he now looks like a different dog beneath all that matted hair! Even though he has lost most of his "locks", he is feeling MUCH better and knows that it will just be a matter of time before he is looking handsome again! Charlie Chan has a nice personality and walks well on a leash... although slowly! A home with no young children is recommended for Charlie Chan. Kringle is learning his manners and his commands, but being the toddler he is, he can be a bit protective of his food. He is great with dogs and kids, and has lived with cats who are very dog savvy so we would want his forever home to be the same. Breed: Beagle-Pointer Mix
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Young
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Pointer / Beagle / Mixed. Adoption Fee: $300 Meet Agnus! Agnus has lots of energy and loves to play. She is friendly to everyone she meets. She's been great with her foster family kids; absolutely no worries there. She loves to wrestle and play with their resident dogs too, however she does have a dominant Alpha female personality. Agnus needs an active family who will take her on daily walks/runs to help her get out her energy. She would also benefit from other outlets for her energy, such as learning frisbee or other doggie agility training that would make her use her mind and body. She's not a big barker, but does bark at squirrels, the doorbell and at other times you'd expect a dog to. Agnus will be your little shadow, as she loves to be where her people are. She is very motivated by positive reinforcement and learns quickly. She's made huge strides in the time she's been with her foster family. Crate training is still a work in progress so she would not be a good candidate for a home that has shared walls such as an apartment or a townhome. Agnus would also do best with another dog in the home for companionship. or //

Posted Breed: Shepherd / Beagle / Mixed. New foster classes are held every Saturday at our Adoption Center RSVP today by emailing: chadatmars@gmail.com Can you help PLEASE? Midwest Animal Rescue is looking for loving, caring, foster homes for rescued dogs to live while they await being adopted. All of the rescued dogs are placed in private homes. The more foster homes that we have, the more dogs we can save from high-kill shelters that are overflowing with homeless dogs. Most of the dogs we bring to Midwest Animal Rescue are very well-adjusted dogs. Some might need to be spayed/neutered, and some may need medical attention due to infections or injuries. A few of the dogs might need obedience training so they learn the basic commands. Some might need help learning to be housebroken. Your foster dog's medical needs are covered by our veterinarians. The rescue will lend you a crate if you need one, and even some dog food if you need it. Our trainers will work with your dog if it needs extra training help to help it become more adoptable. You will be supported by one of our representatives throughout the fostering time, and they will explain everything that fostering entails. Fostering a rescued dog is very rewarding. Whether the dog you are helping is the perfect companion, or if it needs extra help, every dog knows that their life has been spared, and they are grateful that they have a bed to sleep on, and good food in their dish, and clean water to drink. If you can provide a dog the love and attention it needs and deserves, please don't hesitate to send in your application today. You will be matched with the dog breed, age, gender, and the size that you prefer. Please click on the FOSTER APPLICATION found below. THANK YOU very much. or //
