Posted Breed: Dachshund (short coat). Adoption Fee: 200.00. This sweet baby was an owner surrender. He is ok with kids, but does not like anyone in his face. If he is unsure of someone (mostly men), he will bark and go for a foot! (Lol) But once he gets used to them he's fine! He likes other dogs. He does have IVDD (Intervertebral Disk Disease), which is very common in this breed. He runs and plays and gets around very well. He loves toys. He sleeps very content and quiet in his kennel. 2/18/2015 Update: Skippy went to see Dr. Brannon and confirms he does have IVDD. Several disks that are degenerated, one that is completely calcified (chronic), and one that is herniated. He does have some incontinence that is a result of the IVDD. He was put on anti-inflammatories and see how he does. If not better we are to report back to Dr. Brannon to discuss options for precious little Skippy. Depite all of this, he gets along fairly well, is very happy, and doesn't mind his doggy diapers!

More About Dachshund Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Tasha is an affectionate, playful girl who, once she gets to know you, will smooch and happily show you her tricks! She's quite the entertainer and can "sit," "stay," "lie down," and "let go." She's smart and learns commands quickly (as long as you have treats for rewards!) Tasha bonds strongly with her people once trust is achieved, but is suspect of strangers and lets her voice be heard. Breed: Australian Shepherd-Pointer Mix
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Australian Shepherd / Pointer / Mixed. Adoption Fee: 100.00. This is precious Sienna!! This Sweet girl has had a hard life. She was pregnant when she became a Proverbs' baby. We got homes for all of her sweet babies, and now we are looking for her forever family to love. Sienna is a real love. She is good with other dogs. Because she was alone for so long, she does have a jealous streak and likes to be the only one getting attention....nothing aggressive, just wanting to catch up on all the love she lost out of on. She loves to play, too. I play a game with her called "get the tail". It goes 100 miles an hour, I try to grab it and hold it. Sometimes I get it and sometimes she tucks it so we can play longer. She will chase cats but in a playful manner, not aggressively. When Sienna came to us, she was able to climb our chain link fence. So a privacy fence would be best. We also suggest if she were to live with other dogs that she be fed by herself. But once feeding is over, playtime is good to go!! While she will go in a crate she does not like it and will frequently escape so is allowed free roam of her foster home. She is housebroken and a lover. We are looking for an exceptional home for this baby.

      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Shepherd / Mixed (medium coat). Adoption Fee: 200.00. Sad story: Peaches aka Peachy was adopted from us as a pup. She was her momma's constant companion on the farm. One day Peaches mom's son came over with his dog and they got into a fight. The son tried to intervene (never do that) and got bitten. Peaches' mom told us to come get her immediately, and she lost the only home she had ever known. It was not Peaches' fault that a strange dog was coming into HER home and acting dominant. She was only trying to protect her momma and was kicked to the curb for it. **She must be your one and only.** If you are an experienced pet owner and would like to give Peaches a shot at a truly forever home, please fill out an application now.
