Posted Breed: Poodle (Miniature) / Bichon Frise / Mixed (medium coat). Umbrella of Hope "Be Our Pet" 8 yr old, 12 lb Poodle and Bichon Frise Mix NEUTERED MALE for ADOPTION Meet Pikachu... a diamond in the rough Pikachu joins us from San Jose Animal Care Center where he was treated by Tails of a Shelter Vet Pikachu is an 8 yr old, 12 lb... ummmmmmmmmm.... Poodle Mix (?) He is non-shedding but that's about as good as we can get. Any guesses? Pikachu was left at the shelter because he needed medical care and his "family" wasn't willing to provide it. They just matter-of-factly dropped him off. It's sad that many people have the mentality that when their pet "breaks" they will just dispose of them and go get a new one somewhere else. It isn't necessarily finances either... it's just a "pets are disposable" mentality. And this seems to be one of those cases. Most abscesses (if caught early enough) just require a simple drain and some antibiotics. This had progressed WAY past that. His teeth were HORRENDOUS and he needed a major dental cleaning. However Pikachu ended up with the family that dumped him, he probably didn't start out with them. We found out that he is SUPER SMART and someone at some point taught him to do tricks that he still remembers. He knows "sit" and "down" for sure. Pikachu was an "outside dog"*** at his last home but he seems to have been an inside dog at some point because he does have manners. He seems to be housebroken. He seems to be crate trained. He walks well on a leash. He is polite and he gets along well with other animals. ***with the exception of a few Livestock Guardian breeds, we at Umbrella of Hope do not believe there should be such a thing as an "outside" dog. All dogs belong inside with their families/packs. While Pikachu was a little snippy with the shelter staff, we think it was because he was in pain and now that he has been treated, he is a DOLL BABY. This is most certainly his "before" and once he has been with us for a week or so and can get to the groomer, we will have an "after" Are you looking for your diamond in the rough and want to give this guy a retirement home worth remembering? Email us at beourpet@gmail.com If you cannot adopt, please consider making a donation towards his medical expenses ($1000) at www.paypal.me/UOH. Even $5 helps and is tax-deductible. Posted Breed: Dachshund / Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat). Umbrella of Hope "Be Our Pet" 2 yr old, 9 lb Dachshund and Chihuahua Mix HOSPICE DOG Sometimes life just isn't fair... Costata is short for the Latin name of the seashell called the Cyrtopleura costata -- the Angel Wing shell. She got that name because this 2 year old, 9 lb Dachshund and Chihuahua Mix is the newest addition to our Umbrella of Hope Hospice Program Costata was found as a stray and brought to San Jose Animal Care Center and it was found that she had an ulcerated mass on her abdomen. Tails of a Shelter Vet treated her, removed the mass and sent it off for biopsy. And it was bad. The mass came back as a Grade III carcinosarcoma. A plea was put out via San Jose Animal Advocates for a rescue to take her for hospice care. This rare tumor usually affects older dogs so our girl drew an unlucky card. This cancer is aggressive and metastasizes quickly and our veterinarian thinks she has a prognosis of 3-4 months. Chemotherapy, while an option in theory, is prohibitively expensive and (more importantly) would only offer another 2-3 months and much of that would be spent in medical appointments and not living life and being a dog. So it is not an option that we are going to pursue for her. We have the technology of extending life... sometimes at any cost, but the hard part is having the wisdom to know when enough is enough. Death is not always the enemy -- inhumanity is -- and we will provide her with love and comfort care until she tells us it is her time to go and we will humanely release her. NOTE: We have an extensive veterinary team in place and trust them implicitly so we are NOT looking for medical advice. While we appreciate that things like turmeric, coconut oil, CBD oil and herbal remedies have worked for other people/pets we are going to stick with the advice of her medical team and what they recommend for her comfort. So, Costata, our Angel Wings girl will be 'fospiced' (foster-hospice) and given a really good life for the time she has left and she will be in a home, with a family and treated as their own. She is happy, sweet and is not in any pain. She will be closely monitored by our veterinary team who will advise us of the best decisions for her. Once we get to know her personality better, she may have some bucket list adventures that she will post about on Pinto's Bucket List . She is being fospiced in the SF Bay Area of California (East Bay). If she has the kind of temperament that would be conducive to going out on "dates" with people who want to take her to the beach or to a park or to a dog-friendly restaurant we will post about finding people to do that with her. To donate towards her medical and comfort care, please do so at www.paypal.me/UOH. Once we get to know her better, she may come up with her own Amazon Wish List of things that make her happy. Welcome to Umbrella of Hope, Costata. Posted Breed: Bichon Frise / Maltese / Mixed (medium coat). Umbrella of Hope "Be Our Pet" 14 yr old, 16 lb Bichon Mix NEUTERED MALE for ADOPTION Meet Mr Periwinkle Seashell! Periwinkle joins us from San Jose Animal Care Center and San Jose Animal Advocates and was treated there by Tails of a Shelter Vet Periwinkle is a 14 yr old, 16 lb Bichon Frise Mix (Maltese? Poodle?). He was previously neutered and has been microchipped and vaccinated. He has also had senior labwork. He had to go immediately to the groomer for a shave down when he got here (like they literally fit us in on an emergency basis) as his coat had been neglected for months or longer and was pulling on his skin and causing him pain. He was dumped at the shelter because of a "divorce" and we think that is the most shameful and ridiculous thing ever. HE wasn't the cause of a marriage breaking up but he was the victim. He was purchased as a pup 14 years ago and then dumped because neither adult wanted to take responsibility for him. For shame. It wasn't just Periwinkle's coat that had been neglected for so long... his mouth is HORRIFIC and he will be getting a dental cleaning (with extractions) on Friday 7/21/17. While he is under, he will be getting his two "cherry eyes" repaired. (Cherry eye is a cosmetic issue with Periwinkle as it is most of the time, but since he will be under anesthesia for the dental, we will have it taken care of as well). Periwinkle is a NICE dog who loves to go on walks. He gets along well with other dogs, seems to ignore cats and would be fine with children. He appears to be housebroken and crate trained and he is EXCELLENT on the leash. Like all non-shedding dogs, he will require regular trips to the groomer every 6-8 weeks to ensure that he stays mat-free (and pain free). Periwinkle is ADOPTABLE and is awaiting his retirement home. He is located in the SF Bay Area of CA and we will entertain REASONABLE adoption inquiries out of the area. However, do not ask us to ship him to you like he is an Amazon package. To inquire about adoption, please email us at beourpet@gmail.com To contribute towards Periwinkle's medical expenses while in our care, please do so online at www.paypal.me/UOH. He comes to us from San Jose Animal Care Center via San Jose Animal Advocates and Tails of a Shelter Vet Spindle is INCREDIBLY loving and sweet and wants nothing more than to be cuddled and loved and hugged and squeezed and doted upon. He ADORES people of all ages. Spindle loves to go on walks (excellent on leash) and car rides, does well in a crate (although he will bark if he hears you). It is hard to tell if he is housebroken so we will say probably with supervision. He gets along with other animals nicely. Spindle has early stage heart disease and hypothyroidism and they are currently controlled with VERY INEXPENSIVE medication (less than $10/month total). Would anyone be willing to sponsor a month of Spindle's medication ($10) to make him more adoptable? We would love to send him home with a year of medication covered. If so, please donate at www.paypal.me/UOH and specify that it is for Spindle's medication. We will update in the comments as we get closer to our goal. if you are interested in adopting Spindle, please email us at beourpet@gmail.com Spindle is located in the SF Bay Area of CA and we welcome adopters from anywhere but we do not drop ship our dogs as if we were Amazon Prime. Reasonable requests for out of area adoptions will be accommodated if the adopter is willing to do some work and be a part of the process. Posted Breed: Poodle (unknown type) / Poodle (Toy) (medium coat). Umbrella of Hope "Be Our Pet" 14 yr old, 12 lb Toy Poodle SPAYED FEMALE for ADOPTION Meet Miss Bubble Seashell Bubble is a 14 yr old, 12 lb Toy Poodle SPAYED FEMALE. She is also microchipped, vaccinated, free of parasites and has had a dental cleaning and senior labwork. Bubble comes to us from our friends at Encina Veterinary Hospital where she was taken as a surrender by a staff member when her owner brought her in for euthanasia for "being old" Bubble is a DOLL and she loves people of all ages and she loves to eat. She walks well on a leash and is crate trained. She LOVES riding in the car. Bubble does need a little reinforcement in the housetraining area but is doing really well at her foster home and just needs consistency. Bubble needs to eat a low-fat food because she has higher-than-normal triglycerides. Unlike in humans, high triglycerides in dogs does not generally lead to heart disease and is almost always controlled by diet when the levels are like Bubble's. (If they were ten times higher than they are, she would take medication for it). There are both prescription and non-prescription diets that can be used. She is currently eating FirstMate Pet Foods Senior variety which is low fat. She can have regular treats and is otherwise unrestricted. She has no other obvious health concerns. Bubble is fostered in the SF Bay Area of CA and we welcome out of area adopters who travel to us to adopt. We require you to be a part of the process and be willing to work with us to do the adoption. If your expectation is that we deliver her to your doorstep seven states away then we will point you towards a stuffed dog on Amazon instead. Posted Breed: Chihuahua (short coat). Umbrella of Hope "Be Our Pet" 1 yr old, 4 lb Chihuahua SPAYED FEMALE for ADOPTION Meet Miss Rockruff Pokemon Rockruff joins us from San Jose Animal Care Center and San Jose Animal Advocates where she was treated by Tails of a Shelter Vet Rockruff is a 1 yr old, 4 lb Chihuahua. She will be spayed, microchipped, vaccinated and is free of parasites. Rockruff is SUPER SHY and timid. She is terrified of people that she does not know. Once she knows you, she does not want to leave your lap and she loves to be carried in your arms. Rockruff needs a quiet home that is patient and understanding. She isn't going to be a "take everywhere" dog where people are man-handling her because she is so little and cute. She is NOT a plaything for children and right now we are rating her for homes with quiet children over the age of 12 (this could change as we get to know her better). It is possible that with love and stability, she could turn into a dog who loves strangers but that is going to take time, patience and homework. Currently we would recommend that she be given her own space (room, crate etc) when new people are over where she can decompress as she is TERRIFIED of them. She will be INCREDIBLY bonded with people that she knows and trusts and will be a velcro dog with them. The scariness of strangers will likely depend on how much desensitization that is done with her by her adopter (we have started it and are happy to explain the technique to a potential adopter). Rockruff is not leash trained but we are working on that. She is pee pad trained in a small area, but she will not ask to go out (she will potty outside if taken). She LOVES the crate (not as much as the lap) and views it as a safe space. She is quiet on car rides in the crate. To inquire about adoption, please email beourpet@gmail.com #adoptable #startastoryadopt #shelterpetlove GENERAL INFO: Housebroken?: Working on it. Very good with pee pads Crate Trained?: Yes Leash Trained?: Working on it Rides Well in Car?: Yes Non-Shedding?: No Good with cats?: Yes, we think so Good with dogs?: Yes Qualifies for Seniors for Seniors?: Not really but since a quiet home would be beneficial, make a case for it and we can consider Umbrella of Hope does not have any strict rules on ages of children because all children are different, but our best approximation is that this animal would do best with children over the age of 12 (pretty firm on this but if your child is a unicorn who has experience with tiny SHY dogs, feel free to email) Umbrella of Hope is a non-profit animal rescue based out of Pittsburg, CA that rescues animals off death row from local shelters. Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Poodle (Toy) / Mixed (medium coat). Umbrella of Hope "Be Our Pet" 2 yr old, 5 lb Chihuahua/Poodle Mix NEUTERED MALE for ADOPTION Meet Mimikyu Pokemon! Mimikyu is a 2 yr old, 5 lb Chihuahua and something-fuzzy-maybe-poodle Mix NEUTERED MALE. He is also microchipped, vaccinated and free of parasites. He comes to us from San Jose Animal Care Center where he was treated by Tails of a Shelter Vet Mimikyu had to have a surgical procedure to correct an issue common in unneutered male dogs where their penis gets stuck outside of the sheath. Now that he is neutered, he should not have this problem ever again. And once he heals completely from the surgery there will be nothing different about him. The more you know, right?... Mimikyu is gentle and sweet and appears to be a very good boy. He likes other animals, is nice with humans and does not seem to bother cats. He is good in the crate and on a leash and seems to know that potties are for outside (but we always expect a learning curve in a new environment). To inquire about Mimikyu, please send an email to beourpet@gmail.com To make a tax-deductible donation towards his care, please go to www.paypal.me/UOH #startastoryadopt #shelterpetlove GENERAL INFO: Housebroken?: Yes, we think so Crate Trained?: Yes Leash Trained?: Yes Rides Well in Car?: Yes Non-Shedding?: No Good with cats?: Yes, we think so Good with dogs?: Yes Qualifies for Seniors for Seniors?: No Umbrella of Hope does not have any strict rules on ages of children because all children are different, but our best approximation is that this animal would do best with children over the age of 5 Umbrella of Hope is a non-profit animal rescue based out of Pittsburg, CA that rescues animals off death row from local shelters. Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat). Umbrella of Hope "Be Our Pet" Pinto is a 8 Year old, 6lb, Chihuahua, SPAYED Female For ADOPTION! Meet Miss Pinto Vroom! As of 10/24/15 Pinto is considered to be a hospice dog due to a pituitary tumor. She will be completing a bucket list and can be followed on Facebook with the hashtag #pintosbucketlist Pinto has been with us since July 2015 when she came to us with a healing abscess on her head that our wonderful friends at CONTRA COSTA ANIMAL SERVICES took care of for us by placing a drain. It was very slow to heal and as we were monitoring some unusual findings on her bloodwork over the next few months, we incidentally found out that she had developed Cushing's Disease (which is treatable/manageable). She was put on a diet to help her lose some weight because she was having some issues with her back legs. She also has had a snotty nose that would get better and then get worse after many rounds of antibiotics and a culture. Her right eye has also been bulged out and that did not get better after her abscess resolved. Putting all of these pieces together, our vet x-rayed her head and is pretty confident that she has a brain tumor on her pituitary gland that is growing pretty fast. We have entered her into our hospice program. She is now no longer on a diet and can eat whatever she likes. We will be monitoring her quality of life and making sure that every day counts and when she is no longer having good days, we will let her go. Right now she is happy, active and HUNGRY. She has now decided to end her life in the best way possible... By starting and COMPLETING a Bucket List. If you are local (SF Bay Area of CA) and want to take her on a date, please email us at beourpet@gmail.com. If you are not local, please consider taking a hospice dog from your local shelter or rescue and giving them an amazing sunset. Donations towards Pinto's care or her legacy program, can be mailed to Umbrella of Hope, c/o Well Pet Vet Clinic, 4040 Railroad Ave, Pittsburg, CA 94565 OR our paypal address is beourpet@gmail.com. We also have an Amazon Wish List. Our tax ID number is 45-4103375 and all donations are tax-deductible. (Pinto is from Contra Costa Animal Services) Pinto is a 8 Year old, 6lb, Chihuahua, SPAYED Female For ADOPTION! She is also microchipped, vaccinated and free of parasites! Pinto was dropped off in the night drop off box at Contra Costa Animal services, when the shelter workers found her she was scared and hurt. She had an ENORMOUS abscess on the right side of her forehead. They drained it (you could even see her skull underneath it, poor baby!) and set about fixing her, all through out this she behaved like a model citizen regardless of how hurt she was! Thanks to the amazing work by Contra Costa Animal services she is healing well. She currently has stents holding her sore bits open, she looks like she's going to make a fantastic recovery very soon and is going to be back to her vivacious self soon. (UPDATE; We are happy to annouce she's made an amazing recovery and is slowly growing back some fuzz around her old injury) She's got an amazing personality, she has the cutest bossy little bark if she wants attention but quickly stops if you give her the eye! She seems very independent but also a lover of cuddles! She loves lounging in the garden on the grass and if you're lucky she'll show you Her famous grass wiggle! She even gives kisses if you tell her she's pretty. She also knows how to sit and is great with other dogs! If you think Pinto is better off in your arms, email us at beourpet@gmail.com or fill in an application online! Welcome to UOH Pinto! Posted Breed: Chihuahua (medium coat). Umbrella of Hope "Be Our Pet" 11 yr old, 14 lb Longhaired Chihuahua SPAYED FEMALE for ADOPTION Meet Miss Pigeon Vegas! Pigeon joins us from Antioch Animal Services and Antioch Animal Services Rescue Page. Pigeon is an 11 yr old, 14 lb Longhaired Chihuahua. She is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, free of parasites and has had her teeth cleaned and senior labwork. Pigeon was a stray that was microchipped! But, alas, when they contacted the registered owner it turns out that she was given away years ago and they did not have their information and did not want her back. The "new" owner never came for her and so we happily took her into our program :) Pigeon (also known as Pixie-Trixie-Foxy-Lady) is absolutely perfect. She loves people of all ages, other dogs and is fine with cats. She walks well on a leash, is crate trained and seems to be housebroken although we have not figured out her system yet. Pigeon is about 3-4 lbs overweight and is on a diet and exercise plan to get down to an ideal 10-11 lbs. She does need to take a pill once or twice a day for her thyroid which is about $5/month. We will send her to a new home with a one year supply. Being on this medicine, a diet food and getting some exercise should help her shed the weight quickly and healthily. If you would like to donate towards sending her with a year's worth of medication ($5/month or $60/year) please do so at www.paypal.me/UOH To inquire about adopting Pigeon, please email beourpet@gmail.com. We are located in the San Francisco East Bay Area of CA and we adopt to people anywhere as long as they come to us to adopt. We will not ship our dogs like they are Amazon.com goods and although we ARE willing to work with people, we are all volunteers and are not going to arrange to deliver her to your doorstep - you would need to be involved in the process and that almost always entails being willing to travel to us. #startastoryadopt #shelterpetlove #longhairedchihuahua #seniorpetsrock #seniordogsrule GENERAL INFO: Housebroken?: Yes, we think so Crate Trained?: Yes Leash Trained?: Yes Rides Well in Car?: Yes Non-Shedding?: No Good with cats?: Yes, we think so Good with dogs?: Yes Qualifies for Seniors for Seniors?: yes Umbrella of Hope does not have any strict rules on ages of children because all children are different, but our best approximation is that this animal would do best with children over the age of 5 Umbrella of Hope is a non-profit animal rescue based out of Pittsburg, CA that rescues animals off death row from local shelters.
