Posted Breed: English Springer Spaniel (medium coat). Age: 10 years Gender: Male Color: Liver & White Weight: 47 lbs Variety: Field We would like to thank Angela Boone of Angela Boone Photography in Roseville, Minnesota for generously donating the photos of Jordy displayed here. Visit her website. Sweet Jordy was picked up by animal control as he was wandering in the country. Our best guess is that he is around ten or eleven years old. Jordy is a dear senior guy who is adjusting to the indoor life at his foster home and is enjoying it!Jordy gets along well with the foster family's resident small dogs, and he is learning to live with cats. He will back off quickly if they hiss and stand up to him. Jordy walks perfectly on leash and loves taking strolls, meeting the neighbors along the way. His favorite pastime is sniffing around the fenced yard, but in true Springer fashion, he loves following his person around, too. Because he can no longer hear and his peripheral vision is impaired, a home without children would be best for Jordy. He does well with hand signals and will Sit, Lie Down, and Stay. As he is deaf, he will need a securely fenced yard to keep him safe. Jordy is truly the sweetest of sweethearts, and he is so easy to have around. Do you have a soft place in your heart and your home for Jordy to spend his retirement years? He is being fostered in Baraboo, WI.Please note that an approved adoption application is the first step in a more thorough interview process that is designed to match each dog to exactly the right family, and that the final decision rests with the dog's case manager. Please read the Adoption FAQ and get an Adoption Application approved before inquiring about Jordy. Contact: ESRA Case Managers, Ellie Starks and Rebecca Thompsonspringerrescuemidwest@gmail.com.

More About English Springer Spaniel Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Read why rescuing Senior Springers is a top priority for ESRA. Meet handsome, happy Hudson. He and a companion, Willie, came to ESRA when their family moved and couldn't take them along. Hudson has lived in harmony with both dogs and cats. He also lived with children and is friendly with them. This easygoing, housetrained boy is a former 4-H dog and is an easy keeper. He loves to carry a big stuffed toy in his mouth once he gets comfortable with his surroundings. When his foster family is away at work during the day, Hudson has free rein of the house, and he usually sleeps. He won't even get on the furniture. Hudson's foster mom describes him as a "clingon." He loves to follow her around the house and be near her. His most endearing quality is that he likes to put his head in between people's legs for scratches. He loves to be brushed, and he doesn't mind having his nails clipped or his ears cleaned. His foster family is helping Hudson lose some weight. He is starting to slim down, and he now has about fifteen pounds to go before he's at his ideal size. This boy is just right in every sense, and he will make a fine companion for some lucky adopter. If you'd like more information about Hudson, please contact his case managers at the e-mail address below. He's eager to meet you! Please note that an approved adoption application is the first step in a more thorough interview process that is designed to match each dog to exactly the right family, and that the final decision rests with the dog's case manager. Age: 10 years Gender: Male Color: Black & White Weight: 39 lbs Variety: Mix Thinking about bringing Willie or another wonderful Senior into your family? Read why rescuing Seniors is a top priority for ESRA. Willie came to ESRA with his companion Hudson after his family moved and could not take the two dogs along. We think he may be a Springer with some cocker spaniel or English setter mixed in. We know that Willie is good with other dogs and cats, as he previously lived with some of each. This boy isn't a barker, so he wouldn't be a good watchdog, but he would do fine in a condo or townhouse because he is a quiet guy. Willie really enjoys sniffing around outside, and he would love to satisfy his curiosity by exploring a fenced yard and/or taking walks around the neighborhood with his family. Willie loves his dog bed, and he can almost always be found there when he is not sniffing! He is housetrained and shows good inside manners, but he also does great in a kennel when his foster family is gone for the day. Willie is a good eater, and he certainly wouldn't mind receiving treats from the table if his people allowed that! This easy keeper is ready to find his Forever Family so that he can share his love with them. If you have a place in your home and your heart for Willie, please contact his case managers at the e-mail address below. Please note that an approved adoption application is the first step in a more thorough interview process that is designed to match each dog to exactly the right family, and that the final decision rests with the dog's case manager. Posted Breed: English Springer Spaniel. INTERESTED IN FOSTERING A SPRINGER FOR ESRA? The Foster Home program is the most important aspect of ESRA's organization. Our Foster Homes provide immeasurable assistance to our Springers by providing them with housing, medical care, rehabilitation, exercise, and love. Frequently dogs that are in our Foster program have previously been in stressful and sometimes abusive situations and the Foster Home environment gives these dogs time to heal their wounds and gain confidence in their relationship with others before they go on to permanent placement. Fostering can lead to adoption - the choice is yours. It can be a chance to experience life with a Springer before making a long-term commitment. ESRA Foster Homes are screened, placing dogs only in homes that are approved as responsible and reliable. All dogs will be spayed and neutered, fully vaccinated, and tested for heartworm while in foster care. To graduate a dog from foster care to permanent placement is a success and a happy ending made possible only by ESRA's foster home members! If you would like to foster a dog for ESRA, please complete a Foster Home Application (http://www.springerrescue.org/join/foster_form.html). Please contact our MN/IA/ND/SD coordinator for information. Ellie Starks at springerrescuemidwest@gmail.com or 507-271-8107.
