Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog. Zeus has spent his short life alone, unloved and kept in a yard by himself. His basic needs of food and water were met, but he never got to experience the outside world. No trips to the park, no car rides, little if any affection. His world consisted of his yard and seeing his people. His family decided they no longer wanted him and asked GSROC for help. When we learned of plight, we rushed to help him. Zeus is now slowly learning about the outside world. Although he is obedience trained, his trainer has worked with him and he is slowly learning that humans can be friendly and fun. He is very cautious of strangers and you must earn his trust before he relaxes. His trainer reports that once his trust is earned, he relaxes and is a love bug! Zeus walks well on a leash and follows commands. Based on his history, we recommend Zeus be placed in an adult home with an experienced GSD owner. This boy has lots of love to give, all he needs is the right human. If you are interested in meeting Zeus, please complete the online application and an adoption counselor will contact you. Please go to our website and complete an adoption application at: http://www.gsroc.org/application.asp. An adoption counselor will contact you to go over your application and assist you in determining which dog may be best for your particular situation.

More About German Shepherd Dog Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Breed: German Shepherd Dog-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: Newport Beach, CA
Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog / Mixed. Wyoming, Nevada, Dakota and Washington are shepherd mixes, approximately 5 months young. They are not ready for adoption yet, as they are still very traumatized by their early life with a hoarder. We are so grateful to have loving volunteers who are trying to help the boys learn to love and trust--it must be so awful to be such a frightened little puppy when the world holds so much potential for fun... Wyoming is making the best progress of the bunch and allows himself to be pet and even bathed. He has a long, long way to go and is still not ready to walk on a leash, but we see a little bit of progress every day. When we take in dogs that are long term projects like these pups are, we rely on the support of wonderful animal lovers to help us offset costly boarding while the pups are with us. They are not relaxed enough to move into foster homes yet, so we are asking for donations to help with their needs. Please pledge your gift in any amount to help these sweet brothers who are so deserving. Simply click on DONATE and indicate that your gift is for Wyoming. Please go to our website and complete an adoption application at: http://www.gsroc.org/application.asp. An adoption counselor will contact you to go over your application and assist you in determining which dog may be best for your particular situation.

Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog / Mixed. Nevada and his brothers are shepherd mix puppies, born on the property of an animal hoarder. The boys are very, very shy and could not be touched when they first arrived. Now, thanks to the patience and dedication of our loving volunteers, the boys can be pet, but they still won't walk on leashes. Our team members spend time every day sitting with the boys and talking to them quietly to gain their trust. The brothers are going to require a lot more time in our care before they are ready for adoption, but we see small bits of progress every day. We are desperate for sponsors to help underwrite the costs for boarding these 4 pups, as they are not ready to move into home environments yet--they are simply too fearful and they hide from sight. Please look at these precious innocents and make a gift in any amount to help us give them the lives they always deserved. Your gift is tax deductible and sincerely appreciated by each of us. Breed: German Shepherd Dog-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: Newport Beach, CA
Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog / Mixed. Rusty has endured horrific abuse at the hands of unknown monsters. Local police found him wandering the streets and brought him to the shelter. The staff were horrified at his condition and calls went out to try and save him. GSROC was also appalled when we saw his photos. What soulless creature could do this to a defenseless dog? We are inundated with dogs needing expensive medical treatment but we could not say no. Rusty is now safe in our lifeboat and being examined by our vet. His skin is dry and brittle - who knows when he last had a decent meal. His ears are crusty with scabs and wax. He will need IVs, expensive antibiotics and nutrients to restore his health. Can you please help us save this poor boy? Celebrate ADOPT A RESCUE DOG MONTH by donating towards Rusty's care. Click on the sponsor button to send in your pledge. UPDATE: Our vet has told us poor Rusty's ears were clearly a hack job, not done by anyone with skill. Rusty's skin issues are a combination of yeast and bacterial infections caused from an untreated flea infestation. This poor boy clearly has been suffering, He now has a bronchial infection too! Expensive antibiotics and medicated baths are continuing. Your donations and financial support are needed & greatly appreciated! Rusty is very animal aggressive - our vet believes he was used as a fight dog. Extensive training and rehab will be needed before he can be placed in any type of home. All donations are needed! Please share this news with other dog lovers and ask them to celebrate with us by helping Rusty. Please go to our website and complete an adoption application at: http://www.gsroc.org/application.asp.
