Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog. Zeus has spent his short life alone, unloved and kept in a yard by himself. His basic needs of food and water were met, but he never got to experience the outside world. No trips to the park, no car rides, little if any affection. His world consisted of his yard and seeing his people. His family decided they no longer wanted him and asked GSROC for help. When we learned of plight, we rushed to help him. Zeus is now slowly learning about the outside world. Although he is obedience trained, his trainer has worked with him and he is slowly learning that humans can be friendly and fun. He is very cautious of strangers and you must earn his trust before he relaxes. His trainer reports that once his trust is earned, he relaxes and is a love bug! Zeus walks well on a leash and follows commands. Based on his history, we recommend Zeus be placed in an adult home with an experienced GSD owner. This boy has lots of love to give, all he needs is the right human. If you are interested in meeting Zeus, please complete the online application and an adoption counselor will contact you. Please go to our website and complete an adoption application at: http://www.gsroc.org/application.asp. An adoption counselor will contact you to go over your application and assist you in determining which dog may be best for your particular situation.

More About German Shepherd Dog Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Breed: German Shepherd Dog-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Young
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog / Mixed. Nevada and his brothers are shepherd mix puppies, born on the property of an animal hoarder. The boys are very, very shy and could not be touched when they first arrived. Now, thanks to the patience and dedication of our loving volunteers, the boys can be pet, but they still won't walk on leashes. Our team members spend time every day sitting with the boys and talking to them quietly to gain their trust. The brothers are going to require a lot more time in our care before they are ready for adoption, but we see small bits of progress every day. We are desperate for sponsors to help underwrite the costs for boarding these 4 pups, as they are not ready to move into home environments yet--they are simply too fearful and they hide from sight. Please look at these precious innocents and make a gift in any amount to help us give them the lives they always deserved. Your gift is tax deductible and sincerely appreciated by each of us. Please go to our website and complete an adoption application at: http://www.gsroc.org/application.asp. An adoption counselor will contact you to go over your application and assist you in determining which dog may be best for your particular situation.

      Breed: German Shepherd Dog
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Young
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog. 1 year old Harley is brand new and just arrived from a busy LA Shelter. He is a mid sized boy filled with fun. Harley is thrilled to meet new people and approaches very one with a big doggy grin. He is exuberant and happy. Harley needs some training to learn his puppy manners. Homes with very small children would not be the best for him as he often jumps with excitement. Harley has classic black and silver good looks. He is curious about his surroundings and likes to explore. At his first adoption event he happily met new people, but was not eager to meet new dogs. Please let us know if you are interested in meeting Harley by completing the online application. Breed: German Shepherd Dog
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Young
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog. Chief is the latest casualty of out of control fireworks. He was found wandering a local neighborhood on 4th of July weekend. He had no collar, no tags, no microchip, nothing to provide a clue as to where he came from. Efforts were made to try and find his home but no one came to claim him. Poor Chief, he may look like a confident GSD, but he let us know in no uncertain terms – he does not like fireworks! A kind animal lover took him in while she looked for his family. Chief got along well with the small dog in the home and ignored the pitbull next door that barked incessantly at him whenever he walked by. He is selective about the dogs he likes. He is still somewhat fearful in new situations. This poor guy, he has been through a lot in a very short about of time. We believe Chief is approximately 2 years old and appears to be housebroken. Recently we introduced Chief to some cats. He let us know – cats would not be allowed in his home. Breed: German Shepherd Dog
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Baby
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). This little cutie is Zena. She was left with a trainer by her new owner so she could learn her puppy ABCs. Sadly, her owner died while Zena was in training and no family member came forward to claim her. GSROC got the call - how could we say no? Zena is still a puppy and has lots of energy to burn. Like all puppies she is full of fun, playfulness and is very inquisitive. She likes to explore, romp and play. Zena is a very smart girl and eager to learn. She will thrive in a happy, active home. However, she does not like small children so we recommend an adult home only. Please think long and hard before adopting a dog Zena's age. She will require someone who is willing to commit to training her. This is a big commitment of time and effort. If you are not interested in this, then please consider an older dog. Please go to our website and complete an adoption application at: http://www.gsroc.org/application.asp. An adoption counselor will contact you to go over your application and assist you in determining which dog may be best for your particular situation.
