Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog / Coonhound / Mixed (medium coat). Rosie - A Young Shepherd Mix One look at Rosie and you can see the love and liveliness in her face. Rosie is just happy to meet everyone, especially if you have a kong or tennis ball to throw for her. Rosie is about 2 years old and she is half American Staffordshire Terrier and half German Shepherd (this is confirmed by a DNA test). We call her a "Rocket Full of Love." Rosie can take off at full speed to fetch her toy then turn on a dime to rush back to greet her friends. Rosie has begun to receive basic training and is learning to sit patiently and wait for her toy or treat. She is a quick learner and eager to please. Rosie is very excitable around other dogs, and most likely would do best with someone that has no other animals. She does have a strong prey drive, so no kitties or small animals in her household. An active family would suit her just fine, especially someone with a large fenced in back yard. Sedona Shepherd Sanctuary's mission is to rescue adult and senior German Shepherd and Shepherd mixes and find them loving homes. All of our dogs are fully vetted and up to date on all their shots Our adoption area includes New Jersey, Delaware Valley, Manhattan, Southern New York and Eastern Pennsylvania. We may adopt to Connecticut depending on circumstances. Please visit our website at www.sedonashepherd.com. Sedona

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). Sasha – 9 Year Old Super Friendly White German Shepherd Sasha is one cool customer. When we first met Sasha, she was just chilling in the driveway. She walked over with her toy and gave us a look that said, “Do you want to play?” Sasha likes her toys and likes to be around people. She is a very easy girl to like. In addition to enjoying spending time with people, Sasha lives with 3 other dogs, from a small 10 pound dog, to a 60 pound pit bull mix. Sasha can fit into just about any household. Sasha is in our owner referral program. Her previous owner recently passed away and her current guardians reached out to Sedona for help in finding a forever home for Sasha. Sasha is good with dogs, people and children 6 years and older. She is house trained, is able to just hang out or engage in frolicking play with humans and dogs. We are not sure how she would be around cats. Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). Frankie has arrived at Sedona and he is now ready to find his new forever home. Frankie is a gentle and easy going pure bred German Shepherd. A “gentle giant,” Frankie is about 100 pounds and full of affection. Frankie is staying with a foster family that includes two other dogs. He is obedient, house trained, and just a fun loving guy to have around your home. Frankie is 8 years old and in good health. Before coming to Sedona, it had been a rough summer for Frankie. His owner passed away and the family took Frankie and his 4 legged dog friend Molly to a shelter. Molly has since found a home, but Frankie was in need of a family who will love him through all of his life. Luckily friends reached out to our rescue friends over at Charwill GSD Rescue who contacted us about Frankie. From there, Frankie was also helped out by Echo Dogs Rescue who secured his transportation to Sedona and Washington Area Humane Society in Pennsylvania who took good care of Frankie during his time at the shelter. Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). Brandi – 8 Year Old Bundle of Love The first thing you notice about Brandi is that she always seems to have a smile on her face. It is difficult to believe this joyously friendly dog was found as a stray. This girl just craves attention and will just roll over on her back and wait for you to give her a nice belly rub. Although she came to us with some excess pounds, she still loves to be active and play with her toys. She has her favorite squeaky toy, which she loves to fetch and when she is done playing, she just wants to snuggle up next to her new best friends. Brandi would be great in a household just looking for a friend, someone who will be happy to greet you when you walk in the house and provide you with joy and affection. Brandi gets excited around other dogs, we aren’t yet sure if she would be happy in a home with other dogs or not, so a proper meeting would be necessary. She enjoys chasing cats and squirrels, so no kitties or birds in her new home. She loves belly rubs and rolling around on the ground. She has some arthritis in her front legs, but we feel with her continuing to get a healthy diet, lose some weight, and proper medication that she will provide years of love to whoever is lucky enough to adopt her. Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog / Chocolate Labrador Retriever / Mixed (medium coat). Romeo is a lovable, and as you can see, a loving German Shepherd mix. His favorite activity is giving and receiving hugs and kisses. As his name would imply, Romeo is extremely friendly, always ready to meet and engage with new people. Our boy Romeo came to us from a city shelter. The story is that he had a girl friend named Juliette (true story) and that he spent a fair amount of time with Juliette as a stray. They may have even made a few puppies along the way. Juliette found a new home, so now Romeo is looking to shower his affection with his own family. (Minus, of the course, the ability to make puppies). Romeo is friendly with other large breed dogs, but does seem to enjoy chasing smaller animals, like cats and squirrels. Romeo is in excellent health. He would benefit from a refresher obedience course. Since we do not know his complete background, we are looking for a home with children over 10. If you are looking for a happy, friendly shepherd mix, Romeo is your dog.
