Posted Breed: Great Dane. Rocket is still a puppy at heart. She is a little fearful of people at first but warms up quickly. She loves playing with the other Danes, usually leading them in a round of zoomies. She is house trained and crate trained. She knows basic commands. Rocket does not like smaller dogs or cats and would do well in a home with maybe one large dog. She needs to go to school to be all that she can be. Full of snuggles and kisses and ready for a foster or forever home.

Great Dane

A.K.A. : Deutsche Dogge, German Mastiff
Overview: The Great Dane is a huge dog with a sweet and gentle nature. He needs a lot of space for exercise, though he can be very calm and well-behaved indoors.
Breed Group: Working
Weight (lbs): 100-120
Height (in): male: 30-32, female: 28-30
Colors: Brindle, black-masked fawn, blue, black, harlequin (white with irregular black patches). Mantle (black and white)
Coat: Hair is short and smooth.
Character: Great Danes are affectionate, calm, loyal, and intelligent. Although they do not bark very much, they make great watch dogs.
Temperament: This breed gets along well with children, other dogs, and most household pets. They are usually wary around strangers, but are good with welcomed visitors.
Care: The Great Dane should be grooming with a rubber brush during periods of shedding.
Training: This breed grows quite large, so for an early lesson he should be trained not to pull on the leash. He's quite eager to please, so a proper approach should provide great results.
Activity: The Great Dane needs a lot of exercise, including being able to run freely off the leash in open countryside.
Country of Origin: Germany
Health Issue: The breed is prone to hip dysplasia, bloat, tumors, heart disease, and tail injuries.
Life Expectancy: 6-8

More About Great Dane Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Great Dane. Tippy came to the farm due to babies/small children in her home. She wasn't mean but she didn't really care for them. She is looking for a home with older adults to love her no matter what! She is 6, in good health and could easily have another 5-6 years left. Don't overlook the eldery, they might surprise you.

      Breed: Great Dane
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: Siren, WI
Posted Breed: Great Dane. Update: Baron has gone to a foster home! It is a quiet home without a herd of other Danes to upset him. I am sure he will do there until a forever home shows up for him. Update: Baron has come out of his shell. He is running and playing with the other dogs, leaning and looking for hugs and kisses. He is such a sweet boy, he is going to make someone very happy. He is also the tallest Dane I have had visit us. At 154# he looks thin until you realize how tall he is! Baron is a beautiful 4 1/2 year old Dane. He suffers from anxiety and needs a quiet home willing to give him time to adjust. He wants to be loved and petted but it takes him a while to build trust. This would be a good companion for a retired couple or single person. He has lived with a cat without incident. Please someone give this great boy a chance to have a human of his very own.
