More About Great Pyrenees Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Great Pyrenees (long coat). Adoption Fee: 250.00. Hi, my name is Ellie and I am a five year old female great Pyrenees. I'm looking for a family that likes high maintenance fluffy gals. I love my grooming, nails trimmed, constant attention and love to be the star of the show. I'd like to be the top dog in the house, I love car rides, long walks, pupachinos, real duck treats, and a big floofs bed. I'm looking for a home that has a fenced backyard with soft green grass. I really like duck treats, and Nutro limited ingredient dry food with a leash of moist food on top. I don't like chicken or grain because it makes me itch. I really prefer to be around older more considerate kids and I don't really like cats, they make sneeze. If you think we are a match fill out an adoption application and let's see where it goes!

Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog / Anatolian Shepherd / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 250. Howdy guys! I'm Talley a beautiful 2 yr old Sheppard mix and I'm not sure how I ended up at a Great Pyrenees Rescue but I did so I'm making the most of my stay while I'm here. I really like these big white fluffy dogs here, they love to run around with me and play fight all day long. They are a lot like me, enjoy big toys that are hard to shred and chasing each other around all day long and where I am from I never saw this much snow. It's Great! I want to play in it all day long and make doggy angels. I'm certainly active when it comes to play time, I also like the napping that happens after a long hard day of bite my kennel neighbors tail. The kennels are warm and have these great big beds, I think my caregiver calls them Kuranda beds or something. They also cover my bed with a big soft blanket so when I go to sleep at night I can cuddle right in and catch some decent Zzzz's. Your not gonna believe this part, before I fall asleep they bring me 3 big meaty treats and play soft classical music for us. I do like it here and feel safe and loved but someday I'd really like my very own family. One I can play with in my future backyard. Maybe even go for a Sunday drive and find new adventures with. Boy oh boy that woukd fun, i sure hope you find me soon so we can meet. I won't say goodbye, just see ya later.

Posted Breed: Great Pyrenees (long coat). Adoption Fee: 250.00. Super sweet very loving Hello! I'm Grigio and aged like a fine wine. I am friendly, get along well with other dogs and I'm filled with love. I smile when coaxed with silliness and can't wait to meet my new family. I need a fenced yard, lots of love, tons of toys and a playmate. I grew up in a cattle field but didn't like how I was treated so I moved my Pyr family and ended up in a Texas shelter. I've never really had any part of the city life but I'm fully ready to accept humans and learn. I'll need some training so lots of patients needed. I haven't learned a lot of commands yet but I'm very well mannered and I'm very smart so I learn fast. I'll be heading to Colorado on January 16th and will need a couple days to settle in but then I'll be ready to meet potential adopters! I hope to see you soon!

Posted Breed: Karelian Bear Dog (long coat). Adoption Fee: 250.00. Very shy My name is Yolonda, im a Karakachan Bear Dog. I was raised in a hoarding situation where I did not get human contact and any love. I was saved by a shelter in Wyoming and where I learned humans aren't so bad. I am still scared of new people and places but with lots of love and slow patient people I could blossom into a great best friend. I would do best in a home where someone is there with me so I don't get scared. I do enjoy a quieter home where there isn't a lot going on and I can learn the routine easily. If your looking for a sweet loving best friend and your patient and loving I think we'd be a good match!
