Posted Breed: Beagle / Jack Russell Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Please contact Jamie (ccjamieballa@gmail.com) for more information about this pet. Hello my name is Duke! I really would love a forever home. I love to run and play so a fenced yard would be so fun! I do well on walks and don't pull on my leash. I really love being the center of attention so I prefer to live without other animals. We are still trying out how well I do with children. I am potty trained, well mannered, crate trained. A super loving pup who is quiet, timid with loud noises and knows sit and stay. I travel great in the car. I would make a great running companion or might even do pretty well in Agility training. I would love to be a part of my very own family. Could that be you?? Duke is in foster care so please complete an application before meeting him. Completing an application does not obligate you to adopt; however, it is required. Applications are processed in the order received in an effort to find the best match possible for both the dog and the adopter. *Duke has an adoption special right now. His adoption fee is only $150. If you feel you are the right home for Duke please fill out an app!

More About Jack-A-Bee Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Breed: Mutt
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Young
      Location: Harrisburg, PA
Posted Breed: Terrier / Mixed (medium coat). Please contact Alice (atarnow@verizon.net) for more information about this pet. Clyde is a young dog that found himself homeless in WV, where strays don't fare well. He is a friendly guy that never met a stranger. Clyde is pretty easy going and is just as happy to sit with you on the couch as he is to go for a walk. He does need some work with a leash...he is learning to walk a straight line. His chewing habits are confined to nylabones and antlers. He is crate-trained and knows 'sit'. He is rarely far enough away from you to need 'come'. Clyde is a people dog so would probably be okay as an only dog, although he might have some separation issues if left alone too long. He is also okay with dogs and cats. His adoption donation includes neutering, vaccinations, implanting of a microchip, application of flea meds and worming. Clyde is in foster care so please complete an application at our website (www.castawaycritters.org) before meeting him. Completing an application does not obligate you to adopt; however, it is required. Applications are processed in the order received in an effort to find the best match possible for both the dog and the adopter.

Her doctor told her she needed to get rid of some to help her COPD. Tanker is one of the ones she surrendered. He is shy at first but warms up quickly. He likes to be held and will follow you wherever you go - very loving. Tanker is a handsome boy with beautiful coloring. The picture doesn't do him justice. All of them are overweight and need to be on a diet, which we will work on. He just wants to be in a home where he gets the attention he deserves. Tanker is overweight at 12lbs. Needs some exercise to help him loose some weight. He is a major cuddlebug. His adoption donation includes neutering, vaccinations, implanting of a microchip, application of flea meds and worming. I'm a good boy and I go outside to do all of my business. I sleep well in the crate and I don't complain at all but I do like to be close to you and snuggle in the bed or on the couch. I'm a Chi but honestly I don't bark a whole lot. I know a lot of chi's do but I just really don't. Seems Like a waste of breath to me. I get along with all of my foster brothers and sisters. I am a friendly guy and my foster mom says I'm a love bug. I'm pretty healthy. I had a heart murmer when I came in, but after having a dental and a neuter the heart murmer is barely noticable. I am up to date on all my shots and heartworm negative. Woot !! I'm still looking for my forever family. Love , Scooby. Posted Breed: Terrier / Yorkshire Terrier Yorkie / Mixed (long coat). Please contact Pat (forgiven1095@hotmail.com) for more information about this pet. Hi, Look who it is. A sweet 11 lb cutie named Brady. I am a terrier mix who is a “gentle” senior male aged about 11. Despite my age, don’t judge me. I love to cuddle and be talked to. I'm okay with kitty cats if they keep their distance, but would have to be the only dog in your house. I do not mind if you spoil me like sitting on your lap or just carrying me around or talking to me. Also, I won’t complain when it comes to sleeping on soft beds. I also like to give kisses and will appreciate any affection in return. With all this “greatness” I must let you know a couple of things: I was rescued from a high kill shelter.....someone thought I was worth it. I am blind but I adapt well. It enhances my other senses. I have some arthritis (all seniors can get this) but am responding well to meds. In the morning, I am a little stiff so first potty break you must help by carrying me outside. Next break, my legs move a little faster. This is why I am hoping for someone who is retired and would like a great companion. I will be your best companion and no trouble because I like to rest a lot. It would be nice if a human senior would adopt - me - a canine senior. His adoption donation includes neutering, vaccinations, implanting of a microchip, application of flea meds and worming. She is very sweet although she has a rough bone structure on her front shoulders/legs, and a growth on a back leg elbow. She has been evaluated by a vet and determined that all is benign and does not affect her mobility. She should lose some weight and be started on joint supplements to help her as she ages. Since she was in a multi-dog environment she needs the companionship of another dog. Moses would love a fenced in yard because he still has a lot of puppy energy in him. Moses does not do well with other dogs or cats. He will need to find a home that consistently works with him in training. He needs to stay busy. He is a very smart boy that likes to keep his brain active, so training is great for him! We also wouldn't recommend very young kids as he is very strong and might knock them over when playing. Moses is such a sweetheart, just reactive towards other dogs. Contessa was one of 19 dogs taken from a hoarder and dropped into a high kill WV pound. Contessa was basically hairless when arrived. Was diagnosed with Cushings and is being treated and looks awesome! just look at her photos...!!!! Her Cushings meds is not high dosage. She takes a pill every other day. Foster mom puts them in 1/2 a pill pocket and Contessa"s eyes light up. She thinks they are just wonderful treats. A box of the cushings meds cost about $60.00 which lasts her 2 months. She also has borderline dry eye. SHe only needs a drop each morning in the one eye. So a bottle lasts about 2 months. Lastly she has a heart murmer. She is a go with the flow little girl. She likes all dogs and cats, She is good with people and kids that are calm. She loves to wear clothes. Makes her feel like a Princess. She will go outside in snow or rain to potty, she is a little trooper. She is very calm and very good. She would love more than anything to have a home of her own. Breed: Maltese-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: Harrisburg, PA
Posted Breed: Terrier / Maltese / Mixed (medium coat). Please contact Sarah (neiswenders@mhs-pa.org) for more information about this pet. Bubba is a sweet little guy – “IF” he likes you. He is believed to be a mix between a Terrier & Maltese (honestly, your guess is as good as ours) He is very content just snuggling up with his "person"... He gets along with dogs – if he is allowed to be the alpha dog - however, can be a bit jealous if he isn't the center of attention when other canine friends are around. Bubba is looking for a forever home... Would do best in a mature home without young children chasing him. Bubba wears a "belly band" in the house because he was never housetrained as a puppy/ young adult and he was allowed to lift his leg in the house. The belly bands work great and are low cost. He does not wear his belly band at night. He is a “territorial marker.” Bubba does come across at times as aggressive; however, Bubba does better with new people who initially ignore him when entering the house. Once he realizes you mean him no harm, he will jump up on your lap and ask for snuggles. Bubba doesn't like when people he doesn't know "coo-chee-coo" over him at first meeting... but he warms up fast if he accepts you – but we don’t let our guard down, because Bubba can become aggressive if he’s done with your attention. Bubba has been through a lot of transition in his short life – he originally came into the Castaway Critter rescue from a high kill shelter in 2011; he was with one foster until August 2013 – but then transitioned to another foster home until he found a special adopter who accepted him and all his quarks. Unfortunately, his forever momma passed away in May 2015; so Bubba came back to his foster family. Bubba has been struggling with some skin issues, but back to his healthy self now and ready to try his hand at finding a loving forever home again. Bubba loves to go for walks – he will bark at people/ cars/ other dogs/ bicycles, etc. Bubba does NOT like cats; so a home without any felines is a MUST. Bubba has been evaluated by a dog behavioralist – and noted that he is fear aggressive and a resource guarder. Experienced dog owner is a MUST. Are you Bubba's match? If so, please complete a online application at www.castawaycritters.org If interested in talking with his foster mom, please contact her directly at castawaysarah@yahoo.com
