Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Terrier (short coat). From the moment Lewis saw people be kind to him, he was ready to start a new life! Lewis has been vetted (UTD On Shots, de-wormed, neutered ) and is HW-= and now on preventative! He is submissive, sweet and loves playing with his foster siblings. Lewis seems to know that a new life has arrived and he's perfectly happy to be a happy go lucky sweet guy ready for the real deal! He's about a year old we think and just at 50 lbs. He may fill out to be the size of small lab and is just adorable!

Labrador Retriever

A.K.A. : Labrador, Lab
Overview: The Labrador Retriever is probably America's favorite dog. He is playful (well into his adult years) and is often seen as a lifelong friend.
Breed Group: Sporting
Weight (lbs): male: 65-80, female: 55-70
Height (in): male: 22-24, female: 21-23
Colors: Solid black, yellow, or chocolate.
Coat: It should be short, straight and very dense, giving a fairly hard feeling to the hand. The Labrador should have a soft, weather-resistant undercoat. A slight wave down the back is permissible.
Character: Labrador Retrievers are obedient, sociable, and affectionate. Loyal dogs, they have a very playful nature ' even into adulthood.
Temperament: This breed gets along well with children, other dogs, and most household pets. They are not considered to be great watch dogs, however.
Care: The Labrador Retriever requires weekly brushing, though twice weekly brushing is needed during times of shedding.

Activity: The Labrador Retriever can easily adapt to the exercise level of your family, but actually needs a lot of exercise, including long walks and field sports.
Country of Origin: Canada
Health Issue: This breed is prone to hip and elbow dysplasia, progressive retinal atrophy, and other eye disorders.
Life Expectancy: 10-12

More About Labrador Retriever Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Breed: Mutt
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Young
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Hound / Hound / Mixed (short coat). Seth is almost 2 years old and has been in foster care for quite awhile. He is cat friendly, loves to play fetch, and gets along great with his foster siblings and his friends at doggie daycare. . He came into rescue very skittish, but is getting more confident and adventurous each day, and is ready for his forever home. Seth is medium size, and weighs around 50 pounds. There were 5 pups found together, unknown if their from the same litter since they all have different coloring. Not sure what happened to them, they have no marks of abuse, but they all were very skittish. Seth is shy, but is becoming quite a watchdog being the first to react whenever someone walks by our house. Seth knows how to sit and is a good pup, but is very cautious of strangers and will bark at them when first meeting, so it will take a patient adopter to overcome some of his issues, but you will be rewarded in time with a wonderful hound, What a sweet dog!!

      Breed: Labrador Retriever
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Pit Bull Terrier (short coat). Dixie is a 2 yo female, yellow Lab mix, approx. 50 lbs. UTD on shots. She gets along with other pets (dogs) and people, with a small period of adjustment to her new surroundings. Dixie was ignored before rescue, so she craves interaction/play. Dixie will give you signs when she needs to go out, but, if you ignore her, she will have an accident. We are working on commands, crate training with great progress. . She is smart and affectionate. She is the most loving dog, and will come up to where you are sitting and put her head in your lap. Dixie would fit well in a family with older children and room to run.

Posted Breed: Whippet / Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat). JayD is a mix ...unsure if any chihuahua as we thought when he was young , he's quite tall as you can see in picture. Possibly has whippet and chihuahua mix. He is very playful , good with cats and other dogs, crate trained , potty trained , neutered , and doesn't bark much.....one thing he can jump very high so there has to be 6 foot privacy wood fence . Unfortunately he is very skittish and his foster mom has not been able to socialize him much outside of her home along with her other dogs due to certain circumstances , but will be working with him as much as she can. He does love to cuddle next to you , at least once all his energy is expended. Lol. He doesn't do well in public and tries to escape his collar at this time so any inquiries can be made to Cody's and his foster mom is always willing to chat with prospective adopters.

      Breed: Staffordshire Bull Terrier-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Young
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Staffordshire Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Dylan is 55 lbs and approx 2 years old. He's a pitbull mix rescued from a local shelter. Dylan loves laying by your feet or romping around in the backyard with his 2 foster brothers (also large pitbulls). He gets along with all dogs, but might try to play too rough with smaller dogs. Shows no interest toward cats, and coexists with two cats currently. Dylan is crate trained, neutered, chipped, UTD on shots, but will need to build confidence on leash skills as he is very scared of loud or sudden noises (such as cars zooming by). Dylan loves having his chin rubbed underneath and will fall asleep with all of the weight from his head resting on your palm if you rub him. He's a very sweet dog and deserves stability and a gentle owner. I think he would lay in bed with his owner all day if he could. He does bark to alert when he needs to go outside. He is always smiling! Dylan is UTD on all vaccines, neutered and HW-. He's dog and cat friendly, but sometimes gets over excited with little dogs when playing. Dylan loves to snuggle and get belly rubs. He's a pretty quiet dog, but will let you know when it's time for a potty break. He's crate & potty trained. He currently lives with two other large male dogs and 2 cats whom he enjoys. Dylan can be a bit fearful of loud sounds and fast/sudden movement, but never reacts, he would love a home that can be patient and understanding as he continues to grow his confidence. If you're interested in possibly adopting Dylan, please go to our website (www.codysfriendsrescue.com/applications.html) and submit an Application to Adopt. It may take us a couple days to review your application and check your vet reference. After we approve your application we will contact you to schedule a meet and greet and home visit. We allow a 10-day home trial to be sure the dog is a good fit before you finalize the adoption. The adoption fee ($200, tax-deductible donation) is collected at the start of the home trial and is held until you finalize the adoption. The adoption fee covers vetting (spay/neuter and age-appropriate vaccinations) and a micro-chip. Please note: We update our Petfinder listings regularly. If you're reading this bio, this dog is still available for adoption, and we're accepting applications. We don't adopt pit bulls or pit bull mixes to people who live in apartments with breed restrictions. Please check with your rental office or landlord to see whether breed restrictions apply. Thank you for your interest in adopting a dog from Cody's Friends Rescue!

Posted Breed: Boxer / Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). My name is Apollo and I am a very energetic 18 month old pit bull mix. I was surrendered to the shelter by my former owner because they couldn’t afford me anymore. I love to go on long walks or runs, and then relaxing around the house getting my belly rubbed. My favorites things include playing fetch and tug in the backyard. I am great with people and kids, housebroken, and doggy door trained. I do get a bit of separation anxiety when my foster parents leave because I have never gotten this much attention before!!!!!. My foster parents are still working on crate training, but it's scary in there and I don't like it much, but I am getting better each day.

Posted Breed: American Bulldog / Mixed (short coat). Gage was rescued from a kill shelter and living with his foster family waiting on his forever home. He is a big marshmallow who loves to cuddle with his humans, but needs to be the only dog in the family and no cats. He is great in the house, housebroken and well behaved. He does require daily exercise, loves long walks/runs, and playing fetch with his favorite Nerf football. He is a very smart boy who wants to please and will do anything for a belly rub! Gage will do best with a dog loving family with older children who are home most of the day or an individual who works from home or in the evenings. He loves being part of the family, adores his humans and wants to be where they are. He can be found quite frequently sprawled out in the middle of the bed snoozing away!

Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / American Staffordshire Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Two to three year old black male, pitbull mix. Completely neutered with all of his shots and completely house trained. Since the day he was found, all 50 lbs of Sock’s has been a goof ball. He loves to cuddle and give friendly kisses any chance he can. He is the sweetest, most loving dog that just wants to be shown love from a devoted owner. He loves to go on walks and have his belly rubbed as he smiles at you on his back. He’ll never turn down the opportunity to play fetch and plays great with other dogs (not cats though). When allowed, he enjoys curling up next to you and taking naps on your chest. Loyal. Obedient. Friendly. Loving. Socks is looking for an owner that will show him as much love as he is always willing to give. With such a personality, any owner would be lucky to find a dog as sweet as this one.
