More About Labrador Retriever Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

They were left with no shelter. Thankfully a neighbor fed and watered them and eventually, reached out for help. He is safe and in need of a committed forever family. He is good with dogs and kids. Unsure of cats. Applications for adopting are on our website www.onedogatatime.us. Dubois PA

      Breed: Australian Shepherd

      Location: Lewistown, PA
Posted Breed: Australian Shepherd. MARLEY is an approximately 7 year old mini aussie. This guy needs a committed adopter. He has bitten out of fear and would do best in a active home that does not expect him to be a social butterfly. He needs someone who is patient and able to allow him time to get comfortable with them. Once he has accepted you, he is one of the most loyal and dedicated companions you could ever ask for. He LOVES car rides, the water and Herding! He was pretty intent on the idea of herding se agulls and ducks when at the beach- he never got close enough, because he was on watch, but they definitely brought out the prey drive in him. Marley loves running! He would be great at agility. Marley has so many redeeming qualities that if allowed, will shine through to the right owner. He can be integrated with some dogs, but would do best in an only dog home. We believe he would do best with a male owner. He seems more trusting of men and enjoys riding 4 wheelers, being outdoors and he is not a runner. Once bonded, he can be left off leash and will follow you anywhere. He truly is an AMAZING dog!! If interested in him, please fill out an application on our websitewww.onedogatatime.us and call 717-248-2902.

Posted Breed: Border Collie / Mixed (medium coat). Hi my name is Sam, I'm 1.5 years old. I am a very loveable boy, and I love to be around people. If I decide you are my favorite, I will follow you all over and miss you when you are gone. I need to have exercise, so if you are looking for a dog that lays around I am not for you, but the rescue has many of those types so check it out. I would also not do well locked up all day, I get pretty crazy after being in a crate and really need to play. I go running with my foster mom every morning, if we miss a day, I usually end up getting into mischief because I have energy I need to get out. I love to play ball and get in the kids pool and get wet. I like every dog that I have met, and just want to play and have fun. Sometimes I get scolded because I can play pretty hard and not all dogs like that. I'm learning all the basic commands and picking it up really quick. As long as I get exercise and have bones to chew, I haven't chewed on anything I'm not suppose too. However, my foster mom said if I didn't get those things, I would probably chew on things puppies are not suppose too. I love car rides, but you should watch out. I have been known to jump out of a car window or two when I get excited. I live with three kids between ages 4 to 13 and do great with all ages. I love to chase squirrels or anything else like that, especially when they run from me. I would need a yard that is fenced in because I would just keep on running after them because it would be so much fun. I love to give kisses too, so if you think I would be a great fit for your family than fill out an application.

Posted Breed: Chihuahua (short coat). Boo is a 11 year old chihuahua. She was just vetted and treated for fleas and had a nice nail trim done....she is not spayed. The doctors are unsure whether or not she will be able to. She has a chain of mammy tumors down both sides of her chest and will be tested and a chest xray done...they also could be fiber tumors, which would not be cancerous. She is house broken, very cuddly and such a sweet girl. Please submit an application thru our website if you are interested in loving her forever. www.onedogatatime.us
