Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever. Jacey's foster family can't say enough things about her - she is just a sweet girl. Jacey loves other dogs, but she especially likes her people. She enjoys her early morning walks and sniffing interesting smells along the way. Jacey likes to play ball for short periods also. She is quiet, and her foster said just one word could sum her up: awesome! Jacey takes her treats nicely and will lie near you when it is time to relax. Jacey is very gentle with kids who approach her, and she is just so easygoing. She is a sweet, older girl who would like a soft, warm bed in a loving forever home to spend the rest of her years. She will reward you with love and sweetness. Jacey would do better in a home with few to no stairs, she likes to take her time moving around and takes joint supplements for her hips. She is house trained and does well with the five other dogs she is fostered with. This sweet girl does not usually come to the adoption events but she can meet you in her foster home. If you are interested in meeting Jacey, fill out an adoption application on our website and you can request a meet with her once you are approved. The adoption includes the altering of the dog, current vaccinations, and microchipping. More About Labrador Retriever Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler / Mixed. Meet Patch! Patch is an owner turn-in from a family that need to relocate for work and could not take him to their new place. He has been with them since he was a puppy and they are very sad. Patch is around 7 years old. He is in a foster home where he is fostered with other dogs and some cats. He does well with other dogs and is gentle with the cats. Patch is the model foster dog, sweet, well behaved, and is friendly. This sweetheart loves to be near his humans, is house trained, and walks well on a leash. With Patch's age, he seems to prefer a more settled and quiet house. Because of this, we recommend a house with older children or no children. If you are interested in meeting this sweet boy, fill out an adoption application today. Location: San Diego, CA
Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Mixed. This handsome six year old is Connor. Connor came to Labs and More needing some TLC after his first family poured bleach on him. We immediately moved him into a loving and experienced foster home where he has been getting the attention that he needs. His fur has grown back and despite what happened to him, he is a sweet and loving boy. Connor loves going on car rides, he may need some help getting in the car, but he is always ready to go anywhere and help you run errands. He is sweet and friendly at home, does well with the other dogs he is fostered with, and he is fine with new people coming over, including a noisy group of teenagers. Connor would be great for a family who is looking for a quiet companion, we think he would do best in a home with adults or older children because of his age and he likes to hang out and lounge around. He is crate trained and likes to occasionally hang out in one. No dog parks or dog beaches necessary for this guy, a short walk and hanging out in the yard is where he is happiest. Connor enjoys playing with his dog toys, lazing out in the sun for a bit on nice days, and getting a little attention from his people before taking a nap. He is house trained, sleeps through the night, and can stay home alone without getting into anything. He does need a strong handler for his walks, he tends to pull and react when he sees other dogs. No kitties in the home with this boy, he thinks they are like fun, squeaky toys that should be chased. Connor is not a fan of the big adoption events and is happy to do meets in his foster home where he can focus on you. We are excited to have Connor find his forever home, if you are the family that is the right fit for him, we are offering a special adoption donation special of $150. If you are interested in meeting this sweet boy, your first step would be to fill out an adoption application on our website. Your adoption coach can request a meet with Connor in his foster home. He can't wait to meet you and share a lifetime of love with you! The adoption includes the altering of the dog, current vaccinations, and microchipping. Kansas is house and crate trained and has very nice house manners. She can be left in the house for several hours while you are away. She likes to play ball and will engage the other dogs for some playtime. She has quite the prey drive and loves to hunt lizards and critters that move in the night so she should not be in a home with cats...but lizards are okay! Kansas loves loves loves to see you at the end of your work day and can hardly wait to give you a kiss or two and then to go on her nightly walk. She is so affectionate and loyal to her favorite people in her life and great with new people she meets. Her personality is even more beautiful than her glowing golden fur and amber eyes. Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Mixed. Meet beautiful and oh so sweet, Nahla! How can you resist this wonderful and kind face! Nahla is a great smaller size at only 40 pounds. She loves all people and loves kids as well, but due to her age, she would prefer to live in a quiet home with no children. She is house and crate trained, she ignores the cats in her foster home, and she can stay home alone in the house without getting into anything. She is looking for a family or individual who will love her, show her the kindness and attention she so well deserves, and who will give her a comfy, warm place to sleep. At age 9+, she may look a little grey, but don't let a little grey fur deter you from getting the best dog ever that you will get to spend lots of quality years with. Come and meet Nahla. She will be your instant best friend! General Information on the Benefits of Adopting and/or Fostering an Older Dog: If you have an active life and don't have a lot of extra time but really want a dog or you don't want to have to go through all the work of training a dog, you might want to consider the benefits of owning an older dog. Most dogs in their later years of life are a bit more settled and can usually be left home alone for several hours with access to a doggy door or even can wait to go out. They are often much better on the leash as they are not quite as strong as they once were and they are also calmer. Seniors sleep a bit more than other dogs so are not as concerned about being left alone. While they still need exercise and love playtime, you'll find that seniors need less exercise and playtime. They normally are house-trained and have good house manners. Seniors make wonderful companions as they are very loyal and loving and they somehow know you are saving their life. You just might find out they are the perfect age of dog for you. The adoption includes the altering of the dog, current vaccinations, and microchipping.
