Posted Breed: Pug / Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat). URGENT-HELP WANTED Illinois & Wisconsin... WE ARE IN NEED OF FOSTER HOMES FOR ADULT DOGS, PREGNANT DOGS & PUPPIES! Licensed by the state of Wisconsin #266969-DS K9 Lifeline Rescue, Inc. is a 501(c)3 non-profit, State Licensed, all volunteer organization based out of SE WI who are reaching out to the public for more foster homes. The Rescue is down to our lowest number of foster homes in 5 years. Sadly, the demand for more homes is high, in large part due to the struggling economy and the added burden of homeless dogs in area Shelters. K9 Lifeline Rescue+ volunteer foster homes can request either large, medium or small breed dogs or puppies to foster and can also specify a certain breed. K9LLR provides our foster homes with crates. We also vaccinate and alter all of our dogs and puppies at the expense of the Rescue. You as the foster family, simply provide a safe, loving home for a dog in need until a permanent home is found. In addition to our dire need of more foster homes, we also have a great need for volunteers able to assist with transporting of the pups from one place to another- we reimburse $$ for transports! We also have the need for website maintenance, AND someone who has the "knack" to find us more veterinarians to help us! For more information e-mail K9LifelineRescue@aol.com or visit our website www.K9Lifeline.com (ALL the pups in the pictures have been ADOPTED- however, there are many, many more in dire need of being put to sleep every day due to lack of Rescue and Foster Homes.)

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Applications are processed in the order they are received so do not delay! Licensed by the state of Wisconsin #266969-DS- 501(c)3 Approved Rescue. Maple is an adorable 6 year old, 12 pound, female papillon/ chihuahua mix with fluffy hair. She is smart, well behaved, doesn't bother anything but will definitely let you know if someone is getting near the house! We're not sure of Maple's history but she seems like she was well cared for before coming to our rescue. She had some dry skin at first but that seems to have cleared up quite a bit now that she is on a healthy diet. She has been spayed and is up to date on all her shots. Maple is completely house trained and used to going outside in a fenced in back yard. She would need to learn how to walk on a leash if a fenced yard isn't available to her - I don't think she's ever been on one before! She likes laying on piles of blankets, the furniture or a human and sleeps on the bed. She likes all the people she's been around - from an 11 year old on up. While she's got quite a bit of energy, she doesn't have much interest in playing - with people, toys or other dogs; she mostly just wants to snuggle and follow me around the house. She does do an awesome army crawl though :) This little girl loves her food and snacks! Even raw carrots are a favorite of hers! She is not a grazer and will let you know when it's mealtime or if you've forgotten to give her a treat after going outside. She currently lives in a quiet home with an older female terrier mix who she gets along fine with. She's rather submissive and would probably get along well with any other smaller dog or would be a great only dog for someone who is home often. She will need some patience when going to a new home as she can be a bit shy and unsure of herself when first meeting people and she enters a new environment. This dog has been fed a high quality 4 star or better dog food. As a Rescue we recommend CANIDAE Pure for adults & puppies. This food can be found at most Pet & Feed Stores in any state. Lucky is a little guy only about 25 pounds and 18 inches tall. Lucky is potty trained and very well behaved, he doesn't chew or get into anything, he loves going for walks and walks perfect on a leash walks perfect on a leash. He is up to about two miles at one time as long as it's not to cold outside. He does well on long car rides , he has traveled with us to our cabin which is a four and a half to five hour drive one way. Lucky hasn't showed much interest in toys , he basically loves laying in our big oversized chair filled with pillows on a cozy blanket and keeping an on everything and everyone until it's time to go outside to the bathroom or for a walk! Lucky is fostered in a home with two dogs; one large laid back male Labrador and one medium dominate sassy female Labrador hound mix and after a few days and a couple disagreements with the sassy female , they are all best buds . He is low maintenance and does not shed very much . Lucky would do well in a home with or without other dogs for company . He has met with cats for a couple hours and didn't seem to mind them. Lucky stays in his kennel during the day while I am at work and sleeps on the couch in a blanket or the dog bed at night. We don't know Lucky's story except that he was taken from a kill Shelter where he was for two months. The first week I had him he was scared and nervous and found his safe spot in a big oversized comfy chair on a cozy blanket where he could watch us and the dogs and stayed there until it was time to eat or go outside. I kept him on a slip leash for about a week just in case he tried to slip collar when I walked him and we were very careful when opening and closing the doors so he didn't slip out. Whom ever adopts Lucky will need to have patience and be willing to give him time to come around and adjust to yet another home. This dog has been fed a high quality 4 star or better dog food. London is an absolutely handsome young lab shepherd mix. At just over 1 year old, he still has a pups energy level, so his ideal family will be active like him! He loves the dog park and has been great with every dog he meets! He would thrive in a multi-dog household. London knows his basic commands like sit and lay, and is 100% housebroken. He is quite a smarty, and will surely excel in any additional training. This boy has quite the background: Having come from Kentucky, when London first went to the veterinarian for a check up with K9 Lifeline Rescue, they discovered that he had sustained a gun shot to the mouth! Luckily, aside from a few dental extractions, you wouldn't know this friendly dog has faced such a trauma! It also gives him a goofy smile, because he likes to set his tongue in the gap! He is 100% healed and healthy. . Won't you consider making London part of the family ?? This dog has been fed a high quality 4 star or better dog food. She weighs 7 pounds. Bitsey is mostly white with a black and white head- she has some faint black ticking. She has very soft hair. Bitsey is fostered in a home with other dogs of all sizes and she gets along with them just fine- she enjoys laying next to them in the dog beds. Bitsey is used to jumping on the couch and sleeping in bed with me under the covers! This girl is low maintenance, calm, quiet and does not shed very much and grooming is minimal but she will need monthly nail trims. Bitsey is used to going potty outside in the fenced yard. I do not know if she is leash trained. She is submissive. Bitsey has not shown any interest in playing with toys or other dogs. Bitsey will be tested with a child who is 7 years old in January. Bitsey is looking for a less active, quiet home with another less active dog for company. We know Bitsey's story....She was taken to a kill Shelter when her owner was taken into a nursing home. She spent a week in the Shelter before she came into our Rescue. The first couple of weeks I had her she was scared and seemed depressed. She found her safe spot in one of the dog beds and stayed in there unless I picked her up. I kept a leash attached to collar so I could grab her if she tried to run. It took Bitsey a couple of weeks to come out of her shell with me and get over her depression. Whom ever adopts her will need to have patience and be willing to give Bitsey time to come around and adjust to yet another home. She is perfect for someone looking to add a small dog to their home. This is Caleb, he is a great young guy with a lot of love to give! He is medium size, great with dogs and super friendly! Just under a year old. Neutered, Healthy and Fully Vetted. Caleb is now in foster care in Mount Horeb, WI. He lives with cats, dogs and 2 children 8 and 10. He loves to go on walks and even short runs. Caleb is the funniest foster dog we have ever have, he is energetic and full of life. The other dogs can barely keep up with him. He is a young dog and would love to have friends to play with. He is still learning manners due to his rough start and probably little training but he learns very fast and is very treat motivated. He does well in his kennel and is not afraid of storms and is fully potty trained. Caleb's favorite is to spend time with people and playtime with other dogs. Caleb started his life with a nice family that ended up not having enough time for him. At 5 months old he was bitten by a recluse spider. That spider bite killed the tissue in his left hind leg. Amputation was necessary. His family had 3 small children that did not understand they needed to be gentle with him. Caleb spent most of his time then kenneled until he was then surrendered.
