Posted Breed: Pug / Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat). URGENT-HELP WANTED Illinois & Wisconsin... WE ARE IN NEED OF FOSTER HOMES FOR ADULT DOGS, PREGNANT DOGS & PUPPIES! Licensed by the state of Wisconsin #266969-DS K9 Lifeline Rescue, Inc. is a 501(c)3 non-profit, State Licensed, all volunteer organization based out of SE WI who are reaching out to the public for more foster homes. The Rescue is down to our lowest number of foster homes in 5 years. Sadly, the demand for more homes is high, in large part due to the struggling economy and the added burden of homeless dogs in area Shelters. K9 Lifeline Rescue+ volunteer foster homes can request either large, medium or small breed dogs or puppies to foster and can also specify a certain breed. K9LLR provides our foster homes with crates. We also vaccinate and alter all of our dogs and puppies at the expense of the Rescue. You as the foster family, simply provide a safe, loving home for a dog in need until a permanent home is found. In addition to our dire need of more foster homes, we also have a great need for volunteers able to assist with transporting of the pups from one place to another- we reimburse $$ for transports! We also have the need for website maintenance, AND someone who has the "knack" to find us more veterinarians to help us! For more information e-mail K9LifelineRescue@aol.com or visit our website www.K9Lifeline.com (ALL the pups in the pictures have been ADOPTED- however, there are many, many more in dire need of being put to sleep every day due to lack of Rescue and Foster Homes.)

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

I am fostered in Whitewater, WI for more information, pictures & to apply for this dog go to our website www.K9Lifeline.com Licensed by the state of Wisconsin #266969-DS- 501(c)3 Approved Rescue. Meet Fin! He is approximately 7 months old. Although his breed is unknown & a guess, he is a medium dog with a beautiful white coat and tan colored markings on his back and face- very unique. This guy has a story behind him... When initially rescued from the shelter, he was terrified. He would run from anyone to hide in a corner or behind any piece of furniture. Once I introduced my 10 month old puppy, he perked up and came over to greet her. It took a few days for Fin to start trusting me. He wouldn’t even walk outside on his own if I was standing there. Luckily, he loves other dogs and followed them so he started to come around! I’ve now had Fin for 3 weeks and he is the most sweet, playful, loving dog! Although he still backs away most times when I reach for him while standing, if I am relaxed on the couch or even sitting on the floor he comes right up to me for a snuggle. He believes he is a lap dog! He will climb right on you and try to lie in your lap relishing in any petting you will give! And he is not a big licker so no slobber worries! He is crate trained and walks right in when told. I do give a treat as incentive! At bedtime he also sleeps in the crate and does great! He is a little messed up with the time change and will bark when he thinks it’s time to wake up but will stop when he realizes it’s not. ( He is potty trained and loves to play outside! I have a fenced in yard so he and my dogs like to spend much time playing outdoors. Being that Fin is a puppy, he is a chewer! He does listen when you tell him no. He also LOVES chew toys…the noisier the better! He is still learning to go on walks. I’ve taken him with my dog and he hasn’t learned to walk in a straight line yet, but crisscrosses back and forth! I believe he just gets overexcited and usually calms down a few blocks in. I have noticed he is scared of big trucks and will try to pull away and sit down. I just kneel down, talk to him softly while petting him and he’s ready to go after about 10 seconds. Overall Fin has been one of my favorite fosters and would make any family happy. Fin would do best in a family with another playful dog and humans that are willing to go slow with him and take the time to let him warm up so he can learn that people can be trusted. This dog has been fed a high quality 4 star or better dog food. As a Rescue we recommend CANIDAE Pure for adults & puppies. This food can be found at most Pet & Feed Stores in any state. London is a young, happy, energetic shepherd mix. He is about 1 year old and loves to play! We are not sure what London's past involves, he came to K9 lifeline in late October with some trauma. At London's first vet visit broken teeth were noticed, he was under anesthesia when the x-rays revealed he had been shot in the mouth. Luckily he only damaged a few teeth on the left side. He is healing up well and is eating and playing like normal. This sweet lucky guy can't wait for a loving family to adopt him. He lives with 2 children and other dogs and cats. I am fostered in Lake Geneva, WI for more information, pictures & to apply for this dog go to our website www.K9Lifeline.com Licensed by the state of Wisconsin #266969-DS- 501(c)3 Approved Rescue. Bean is a Dachshund who is about 10 pounds- she is not very big. She looks just like a Doxie and is built like one, with slightly longer legs but I feel I need to call her a mix because she has two white paws and some white on her face & chin, She fit right in to my house- it is amazing to me how some dogs can adjust so quickly. I am very lucky. Beanie is fostered with other dogs but she does not play with them- she prefers me over them!. She is well behaved, friendly and does give lots of kisses. Her health is good and her teeth look great. Bean's paperwork says she is 5 but she acts a little younger. More like 3. Beanie is a LAP DOG and she likes to sleep in bed with me. She is used to sitting on the couch. Beanie is a low shedder. She walks well on leash. Beanie has been well behaved in the house- she does not get into anything and she is NOT hyper. She is in the process of being crate trained. She does bark in the crate so no apartments for this girl. Beanie is being trained in a 36' metal crate so there is plenty of room for her. Upon adoption she will be fully vetted and have had spay surgery. She would do best in a home where someone is home more then not. Beanie has not been around children in her foster home so we are unsure how she would do with really small kids but she is really friendly with adults and strangers so I don't think older kids would be an issue. UPDATE- BEANIE IS PREGNANT! SHE WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION AFTER SHE HAS HER PUPPIES BUT SHE WOULD LOVE TO HAVE A HOME WAITING FOR HER WHEN SHE IS READY! Now taking Applications. NEW VIDEO!! Meet Pancake! She's about a year old and weighs 11 pounds. Pancake came to us pregnant.. Her puppies are weaned and she has been spayed. . and she's ready for her new life! She is a goofy dog that keeps me laughing all the time. SHE HAS BEEN AROUND CHILDREN 7 AND UP AND IS GREAT WITH THEM. She is house broken and crate trained. She also does well on a leash and we are working on staying in the yard. She can be nervous around new people and does take a little time adjusting. She love her Kong toy and long last chews. She was a real good mom to her puppies and is a sweet, goofball when she is comfortable with you. 11/9/16 - Sorry it took me a while to update! Pancake is doing great! Ever since her puppies weaned, she has been much more interested in other dogs. She loves to run and play with my dogs. She can even chew on bones in the living room with the other dogs present! I think she is just protective of her crate and doesn't like the other dogs to go by it. Pancake loves to roll around on the blankets. I don't know if she is trying to get the "clean laundry" smell on her, or her dog smell on my blankets. She seems like a much happier dog now that her puppies are weaned and she can be a "real" dog. She is going to make any family an awesome addition. This dog has been fed a high quality 4 star or better dog food. As a Rescue we recommend CANIDAE Pure for adults & puppies. This is Caleb, he is a great young guy with a lot of love to give! He is medium size, great with dogs and super friendly! Just under a year old. Neutered, Healthy and Fully Vetted. Caleb is now in foster care in Mount Horeb, WI. He lives with cats, dogs and 2 children 8 and 10. He loves to go on walks and even short runs. Caleb is the funniest foster dog we have ever have, he is energetic and full of life. The other dogs can barely keep up with him. He is a young dog and would love to have friends to play with. He is still learning manners due to his rough start and probably little training but he learns very fast and is very treat motivated. He does well in his kennel and is not afraid of storms and is fully potty trained. Caleb's favorite is to spend time with people and playtime with other dogs. Caleb started his life with a nice family that ended up not having enough time for him. At 5 months old he was bitten by a recluse spider. That spider bite killed the tissue in his left hind leg. Amputation was necessary. His family had 3 small children that did not understand they needed to be gentle with him. Caleb spent most of his time then kenneled until he was then surrendered. This dog has been fed a high quality 4 star or better dog food. As a Rescue we recommend CANIDAE Pure for adults & puppies. This food can be found at most Pet & Feed Stores in any state.
