Posted Breed: Pug / Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat). URGENT-HELP WANTED Illinois & Wisconsin... WE ARE IN NEED OF FOSTER HOMES FOR ADULT DOGS, PREGNANT DOGS & PUPPIES! Licensed by the state of Wisconsin #266969-DS K9 Lifeline Rescue, Inc. is a 501(c)3 non-profit, State Licensed, all volunteer organization based out of SE WI who are reaching out to the public for more foster homes. The Rescue is down to our lowest number of foster homes in 5 years. Sadly, the demand for more homes is high, in large part due to the struggling economy and the added burden of homeless dogs in area Shelters. K9 Lifeline Rescue+ volunteer foster homes can request either large, medium or small breed dogs or puppies to foster and can also specify a certain breed. K9LLR provides our foster homes with crates. We also vaccinate and alter all of our dogs and puppies at the expense of the Rescue. You as the foster family, simply provide a safe, loving home for a dog in need until a permanent home is found. In addition to our dire need of more foster homes, we also have a great need for volunteers able to assist with transporting of the pups from one place to another- we reimburse $$ for transports! We also have the need for website maintenance, AND someone who has the "knack" to find us more veterinarians to help us! For more information e-mail K9LifelineRescue@aol.com or visit our website www.K9Lifeline.com (ALL the pups in the pictures have been ADOPTED- however, there are many, many more in dire need of being put to sleep every day due to lack of Rescue and Foster Homes.)

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

She got her name because this little girl always has a smile on her face and a wag in her little tail! Happy is just under a year old, 8 pounds and a beautiful brindle color. She is very friendly with everyone. Happy gets along well with other dogs and does enjoy the company of another dog who would play with her. She needs a little training on jumping so real little kids would not be a good idea for her because they could be knocked over. Happy is used to going potty outside in a fenced yard and has a piddle pad in her dog room for overnight she is working on house training. We do not know if she is leash trained. Happy is a lap dog. She is used to sitting next to me in the chair and on the couch. She also jumps on the bed. Happy is a low shedder. She is active but not hyper. Loves toys that make noise. Now sleeps in bed with foster Mom. Her spay surgery is scheduled for next week. This dog has been fed a high quality 4 star or better dog food. As a Rescue we recommend CANIDAE Pure for adults & puppies. This food can be found at most Pet & Feed Stores in any state. All puppies & dogs have had a wellness exam by a licensed Veterinarian, are healthy and come with a Certified Health Certificate (CVI). All adult dogs have had spay or neuter surgery. They are up to date on vaccines & heartworm testing. K9LLR puppies/dogs are also up to date on deworming and have been given Capstar, Frontline Plus/Advantix II/Revolution and or Heartworm Preventative. All dogs are groomed prior to adoption! Applications are processed in the order they are received so do not delay! Licensed by the state of Wisconsin #266969-DS- 501(c)3 Approved Rescue. Harper is about 15-20 pounds and sweet as can be. She is somewhat timid at first but once she knows she is safe, she's VERY sweet and loves to play. She is fostered with another small dog, 1 cat and my 11 and 13 year old daughters. She walks great on the leash, she prefers the harness to the collar. She stays in her crate when we leave and does really well. Loves to eat and has taken really quickly to 'potty outside'. Very few accidents. She and our dog have bonded up and spend quite a bit of time together. She would do great in a house with another small dog as a playmate. She doesn't show much interest in the cat but is gentle around her. Loves to eat and is learning the sit and come command very quickly. She's a bright dog who'll need a little time to settle in but will be a great addition to any house. This dog has been fed a high quality 4 star or better dog food. I am fostered in GENOA CITY, WI for more information, pictures & to apply for this dog go to our website www.K9Lifeline.com If you would like to meet/adopt this dog you must submit an application which is on our website under Adoption Process. Applications are processed in the order they are received so do not delay! Licensed by the state of Wisconsin #266969-DS- 501(c)3 Approved Rescue. Juno is 5 months old. Very friendly and fully vetted spayed! Female good with other dogs. Breed/Age: This cute little girl is Juno. She is approaching 5 months old and is a beagle mix of some sort. Juno is about 20 inches high at her shoulder and weighs about 28lbs. She has been spayed and wormed and will due to be wormed again in a couple weeks. Activity Level: Juno is a typical active puppy. She LOVES playing with my pit mix boy Theo. They play for fairly long stretches and then break for a nap. Juno would love having another dog to play with. She is very people oriented and her favorite thing, besides food, is to lay on your lap and snooze. She is a very good snuggler. Manners: Juno is working on her housebreaking and is doing pretty well. She knows what it means when I say "go potty" when she is outside although she is not fond of rain or cold. She seems to do better in the cold when she has on her jacket/sweater, at least until she gains some more weight. Juno has also learned how to sit and will usually sit for her food bowl before I set it down for her to eat. That needs to continue, especially as she gets older since I think she will end up being a tall little girl. She also now knows what "no" means. She had no clue when I first got her. Foster mom notes: This is one of the snuggliest puppies I have ever fostered. She is truly a happy little girl that will make a fun addition to any family or single person. The perfect home would have another playful dog and even a small fenced in yard for her to run in. She is very scent oriented with her hound nose so should NEVER be trusted off leash by any means. She loves deer antlers and nylabones to chew on, especially since she still has a few more puppy teeth coming in. She has never chewed on anything that she shouldn't. All my shoes and furniture have been safe. She is waiting for someone to be her forever family, hopefully with another 4-legged brother or sister too. This dog has been fed a high quality 4 star or better dog food. As a Rescue we recommend CANIDAE Pure for adults & puppies. This food can be found at most Pet & Feed Stores in any state. Rustie is a, very, sweet, female pup, approximately 9 months old. She loves her toys, tug-of-war, fetch, etc.. She loves to cuddle under blankets. She's obedient and doesn't bark to hear herself, but to warn you of someone's presence. She was scared when she first came to us, but warmed up very quickly. She seems to opt the children of the house over the adults, and is even more partial to our 10 year old daughter. She needs to be taken out frequently, but also uses puppy pads according to her previous foster. We have been working with her on it along with training her to "sit". She is small 15 pounds. Very light yellow color with white. Her breed or mix is unknown, one possible blood line that has been pointed out as possibility is part Chihuahua, however in my experience with Chihuahuas Rusty has a higher intellect. She really is a pleasure and whoever adopts her is sure to fall head over heals with this wonderful dog. This dog has been fed a high quality 4 star or better dog food. Applications are processed in the order they are received so do not delay! Licensed by the state of Wisconsin #266969-DS- 501(c)3 Approved Rescue. Meet Whiskey! She is between 1 and 2 years old and should weigh 40 pounds. Whiskey is a Lab mix with an underbite- it's pretty cute! She is the friendliest dog you will ever meet, although she can be a little shy at first and takes a couple minutes (& some yummy treats) to warm up to you. She is great with other dogs, however, we are unsure of how she would be with cats. Whiskey is good off leash but would prefer a fenced in yard. She will bark when outside on a tie out (and she has a loud, deep bark!).Whiskey absolutely LOVES playing with toys and chewing on quality bones. She is also used to laying on the couch. . She is used to being crated but will bark after a long time so an apartment would probably not be the best for Whiskey. She would really love a home where she can get lots of exercise, love, and attention. Her perfect home would also have another doggy companion and even a child or two. Whiskey has been a delight to foster.. She cannot be spayed for 6 weeks due to having puppies. Whiskey has a beautiful deep brandy colored coat, with silky soft ears, and a darker nose at the tip, which lightens in color going back to her eyes. Along with her cute underbite, she also has a slightly crooked tail. Her paws are a little ticklish, and she likes the underside of her chin and neck scratched. Whiskey is very food motivated, especially for training purposes. She has mastered sit, and is doing well with lay and stay. We just started bell training to help signal her need to go outside. Whiskey can be hesitant to go outside at times. She likes to climb under things inside (the bed to take a nap) and outside ( the view from under the deck). She is learning to share with other dogs, so as not to monopolize food and treats. Although she can be hesitant with new people and environments, she adjusts well, once she becomes comfortable. Whiskey would do well to have many opportunities to socialize and become familiar with various sounds and environments. This dog has been fed a high quality 4 star or better dog food. Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Chocolate Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat). Ginger is one amazing dog with an unbelievable story behind her! Her foster Mom will tell you all about it! The vet thinks she's around 2 and a mix breed. She should weigh about 40 pounds. She's a gorgeous chocolate color with some black highlights! She has an underbite- which is oh so cute! And she smiles! Ginger is a talkative girl and gets real excited when I get her out of her crate, bring her inside from going potty, or come home from work. She also smiles on occasion :) Have you ever seen a dog full tooth smile? It's adorable! to some it looks scary, but it totally harmless. Ginger has done amazingly well with her housebreaking. She is fostered with other dogs, but does get bone and toy possessive. I'm unsure if that is how she truly is, or if she's just that way because she has her puppies still with her- The puppies are 5 weeks old. She may do best in a home with a submissive dog. She enjoys being in the fenced in back yard and CANNOT be loose outside without a leash. She isn't a bolt & run type of dog, but she does wander...which makes me think she has some sort of hound in her! lol She is so easy going. She tolerates baths and nail trims like a very good dog. She loves her meals and is a very food motivated dog- so she will be east to train & teach tricks to her! She can be a bit of a messy dog when she drinks water as she tends to let it drool out of her mouth and onto the floor we recommend having a tray under her bowl- they have them at Wal-Mart. Ginger is used to sleeping in a crate. She does walk well on a leash. Ginger does chew up stuffed toys within seconds of getting to them so she needs the really tuff toys made for chewing. I think this active dog would make a good addition to most families she is very friendly, adorable and one of a kind! She cannot be spayed until May due to having puppies. The puppies will be available in a couple weeks. The donation for this pet is $325.00. Serious inquiries only! We cannot hold any Puppy or Dog.
