Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Staffordshire Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). awesome PHOTO BOMB YAL' !!! Carly travels the world looking for her family to adopt her. Nashville TN. I have searched high and low for my family and just haven't found them yet, OR they haven't found me, YET! I am not a pedigree dog with papers. I won’t win an award at the dog shows, but I am 100% winner when it comes to loving and family. At the end of each day, I will greet you with gleaming eyes and a wagging tail, then…I’ll come thump-thump-thumping over to you with a kissey and sit by your side. I will look into your eyes and know exactly what kind of day you have had. We can sit quietly or go out and take a long walk around the neighborhood. I am looking for a place to unpack my traveling' bags and set roots with her family. Yal' come meet me.

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier-Pug Mix
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Pug / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 200.00. Tasha is born to be an Instagram star. Look at that face! She is as close to being a pig while still being canine. It is impossible not to laugh while she snorts, snores, and waddles around. Her favorite hobbies include eating (but she actually eats surprisingly little despite her pudgy appearance), chewing on toys, napping, and receiving belly rubs. Although she is wary of strangers, once she trusts that you are a friend, she is delighted to see you and will promptly flop over to ask for a scratch on her belly rolls. She’s a smart cookie who can hold a “sit, stay” at the doorway and wait for “come” before bouncing out gleefully to roll around in the grass. Sometimes she can be stubborn about coming inside before she’s ready, but will accept bribes of treats, toys, and more tummy . Tasha is a relatively low maintenance pet who would thrive in a quiet, mature household wit no cats, where she can nap to her heart’s content. NG

      Sex: Female Female
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 100.00. Queen has the biggest brightest smile! She is stunning with a charming personality. Queen is extremely loving and affectionate with children. She loves to exercise and would make a great hiking or jogging buddy or simply explore new places with you. She is bright and eager to please her humans. She does want to be your one and only and would thrive as a single dog. She's protective of her family and will alert you to strangers. Queen is looking for a family that will provide a nurturing, stable environment. Note: While dogs may be described as “good” or “not good” with other pets, compatibility is not set in stone. These relationships are dynamic and often situational. Give your new pet some time to feel safe before introducing them to new situations. Be aware that your other pets may suddenly feel territorial. As always, supervise interactions with caution so that your furry companions start their relationships on the right foot. LA

      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Black Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 200.00. This is Joey and he's here to steal your heart! Joey loves people, especially the ones that scratch his ears when he places his head in their lap! Yes, he's that kind of dog! Joey adores car rides, and would enjoy keeping you company when you're out and about. He's enthusiastic, and gets along well with cats! Joey is smart and knows basic obedience commands like, "sit," "lay," and "heel." Luckily, he has awesome leash manners because he requires a long daily walk. You must be mindful that he doesn't care for other dogs, and have a strong leash arm to keep Joey in check. He would thrive with an experienced dog owner and where he can be the top dog in a one-dog home. LA

He’s docile natured and agreeable, which is especially important since he’s quite a big dog. He should have a fenced yard as hounds like to follow their noses. He doesn’t bark a lot, but does occasionally yodel the song of his people when excited. NG

She's an expert at sitting and staying before bouncing out into the yard on command, and can shake hands! Zena is loving, affectionate and a fetch playing superstar. She's never met a stranger she didn't like, unless it's a dog or cat. Zena's wish would be nothing more than to cuddle with the people who love her. Want to make Zena's wish come true? Fill out an application! Note: Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not breed label. LA

Twizzler is sporty, so if you're looking for a jogging companion or someone to take long walks with, then Twizzler is your girl! She does need a secure yard with a fence so she can stretch her legs and have room for active play time. Twizzler is a true beauty and quite the head turner! She is a smaller compact girl and would do better with older children. Twizzler needs a calm, compassionate home that allows her to build her confidence and understand she is shy and a bit timid when meeting new people. If you have the perfect home for Twizzler, we would love to hear from you! LA

      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Australian Shepherd / Pointer / Mixed. Adoption Fee: 100.00. This is precious Sienna!! This Sweet girl has had a hard life. She was pregnant when she became a Proverbs' baby. We got homes for all of her sweet babies, and now we are looking for her forever family to love. Sienna is a real love. She is good with other dogs. Because she was alone for so long, she does have a jealous streak and likes to be the only one getting attention....nothing aggressive, just wanting to catch up on all the love she lost. She loves to play, too. I play a game with her called "get the tail". It goes 100 miles an hour, I try to grab it and hold it. Sometimes I get it and sometimes she tucks it so we can play longer. She will chase cats but in a playful manner, not aggressively. When Sienna came to us, she was able to climb our chain link fence. So a privacy fence would be best. We also suggest if she were to live with other dogs that she be fed by herself. But once feeding is over, playtime is good to go!! While she will go in a crate she does not like it and will frequently escape so is allowed free roam of her foster home. She is housebroken and a lover. We are looking for an exceptional home for this baby.

She has great house manners and will sit, stay, lay down, shake, and even grab her own leash and wait by the door when it's time to walk! She is not much for cuddling but she would love it if you rubbed her belly! She spends her days running and playing with her foster siblings. She does great with them but is anxious when meeting new dogs, she needs a little time and patience. She is a jewel and deserves an exceptional home.

      rescue
      Breed: Mutt
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Young
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Black Labrador Retriever / Mixed. Adoption Fee: 200.00. Pappy!!!!!! This is one of our precious whiskey pups who sadly was returned for just being a puppy without enough attention. He came back shut down and afraid of humans which is so horrible because he was a bottle baby of ours who had never known humans to be anything but amazing. Since coming home he has come to life again. The moment he finally realized where he was and who we were the light switched on for him again and he lifted his head, untucked his tail and joy came pouring out! He is still just a puppy! Does Pappy look a bit different to you? Well though we see him as perfect, his nose, nasal passage and immune system was altered due to E Coli he that he and his siblings contracted from the mom at birth. Sadly 1/2 of his litter mates passed away but he was one of the little miracles that survived. He no longer has E. coli. His medical needs are though that he needs a benedryl sometimes daily, he cannot be out in the heat for very long and he could be more susceptible to things due to his immune system. So basically he's a big lap baby!! If you are looking for a super active running dog this pup would not be a good candidate due to his reduced nasal passages. HE loves to cuddle, play ball, HUG, learn knew things and be silly. He is currently refining his house manners. He loves people, cats and other dogs. Because it seems his puppyhood was cut short he is doing a few more young puppy behaviors we are working on like not shredding paper, house training and not wiggling so much. He needs a home where he won't be left alone for extensive periods of time. Though he is crate trained he is a bit anxious in the crate. Sad because he used to love his crate. Pappy will be working with a trainer soon to bring some finesse to his puppy training! If you are interested in being his new FOREVER family then please apply at WWW.PROVERBS1210RESCUE.ORG. We would love for you to be a part of his training so you can learn together as a family!

      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Terrier / Mixed. Adoption Fee: 200.00. As I headed home a couple of hours ago, a staggering, weak, confused senior dog caught my eye as she dangerously dodged traffic on a busy highway. I immediately turned around and made my way back to her. She wanted no part of being caught and I prayed I wouldn't be run over trying to catch this sweet soul. I want to thank a man named Jim and a lady whose name I think was Hannah who stopped to help as countless other vehicles passed. We finally managed to get her into a school parking lot and the most amazing thing happened. Two teens, Josh and Drake showed up AND at the same time a huge truck pulled into the parking lot where she was still trying to avoid being caught. The feeble old gal darted under that truck for safety and the teens proceeded to crawl under and catch her. These four people and the trucker restored a bit of my faith in mankind this afternoon. The sweet dog,now being called Harriet, is safely at Cornerstone Animal Hospital. She smelled horrible, was eaten up with fleas and ticks, is positive for ehrlichia, has a hind leg that at one point was broken and not treated, hence her limp. She has no collar, tag, or microchip, but tonight she is warm, safe, fed and tomorrow she will go to a foster home on meds. **She will need Rimadyl for the rest of her life. No stairs and a fenced in yard is required**
