Posted Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler / Mixed (medium coat). Ernie is a sweet, trusting, friendly, and playful little guy, but almost completely blind. (He can make out large, contrasting shapes, and detect movement.) But he has excellent hearing and a great nose. He is small enough to carry, if need be, and quite agreeable to being lifted. He is friendly to all the dogs who greet him through his kennel mesh. Ernie was chained up and abandoned, and that's about all we know of his past. Our vet says there is nothing to be done for his vision, but he is otherwise in good shape for an older guy. Ernie needs a small home, so he can figure out where everything is, a safe little corner to call his own, and someone to love and care for him. If you would like to meet Ernie, please email Abbie Lynn at mauiranch@yahoo.com. Our adoption process is: 1. Fill out our Adoption Application online. 2. We'll contact you to schedule a home visit. 3. If the pet looks like a great match, fill out our Adoption Agreement online (or Foster-to-Adopt Agreement), pay the Adoption Fee, and arrange to pick up your new furry family member!

A.K.A. : A mongrel, mixed-breed dog
Overview: A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.

More About Mutt Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). To "no-ah" him is to love him! Meet noble Noah of the exquisite, expressive eyes and beautiful brindle coat. Built for snuggles more than speed, he thrives on belly rubs, head scratches and, of course, tasty treats. This gentle giant gets along famously with everyone in his foster home (cuddling with his canine foster sibs comes a close second to hugging his humans), is happily at ease with children and when meeting new people, but keeps all cats at paw’s length. Having perfected the "sit" and "down" commands, he’s eager to learn and perfect more, and hopes that his adoptive family will provide him with the guidance he needs in exchange for a lifetime of loving. Since I am a Pitbull, I can't be adopted in the following banned areas: Denver, Aurora, Castle Rock, Commerce City, Ft Lupton, Lone Tree, or Louisville. Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Mixed. Active and agile Tina is 20 pounds of energy and enthusiasm, paws-ibly with a touch of Jack Russell for emphasis. For this bubbly beauty who thrives on being busy, there’s nothing she enjoys more than running and jumping and playing "catch me if you can" with the other dogs in her foster home. Then there are toys. Tina LOVES toys, all toys, as well as bones. She also loves food, and while mealtime excites her, she always sits nicely when served. A true people pup, she is cutely cuddly and adorably affectionate, not only snuggling under the covers with her foster mom at night, but also curling up with and hugging the other dogs. She has excellent recall, knows "sit", is at work on "get down", and walks fairly well on a leash, although she’s still fearful of strangers. Fully housetrained, she won’t go out in the rain, and prefers to spend as little time as possible inside her crate. Now what this lively lady needs are active adopters to continue her training and socialization while keeping her physically and mentally satisfied, an equally energetic canine companion, and a yard with a 6-foot wooden fence to ensure she stays safely at home fur-ever. Animal Rescue of the Rockies believes that every pet should find a wonderful, caring home. Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Mixed. Wide-eyed with wonder, former puppy mama, Rolo, is looking upward and forward. The small 13-pound beauty, so sweet and so shy, has been growing more comfortable each day around new people, although she still prefers going to them instead of them coming to her. Then, once she trusts them, she enjoys sitting in their laps and cuddling. Highly treat motivated, she answers to her name, knows her "sit" and "down" commands, and walks very well on a leash. One of her cuter quirks is taking her treats to bed with her, while the other is sleeping in the clothesbasket! Still wary of large dogs, she’s most at ease with ones her own size, is now playing with her foster sib, and exploring the backyard of her foster home by herself. Not fond of her crate or rides in the car, she’s fully housetrained and sleeps snugly in bed with her foster mom at night. Now, what she needs is the patience and gentle guidance of a loving adoptive home to complete her doggy education in exchange for a lifetime of cuddles. He is good with kids. He is good with dogs in public places on leash but better as an only dog in a home. He can be food aggressive with other dogs. I take him to walk at the lake and take him to dog training with other dogs. I let him meet them briefly and there is no problems. He loves to cuddle and sit in your lap. He will follow hand signals pretty much on command. He needs daily walks or exercise. He's not very big about 45 pounds. If you'd like to meet me, please contact Pam at pam.andrus@gmail.com. Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Basset Hound / Mixed. Hi, we're Paso (12YO female lab mix) & Dudley (11YO basset hound). We are very loving pets who have lived primarily around adults. Sadly, our person is very ill and is not expected to outlive us, so we are in need of a quiet home in which we can continue our retirement. Ideally, you would be home most of the time, and perhaps you are retired yourself! We would like a comfy home where we can lounge around, and a back yard that is good for running around. We look forward to daily walks to the park or around the neighbourhood. We need to stay together, and preferably be your only dogs.
