Posted Breed: Cockapoo / Mixed. APPLICATIONS PENDING! ....Hi Everyone - I am Coco, a distinguished looking cockapoo with beautiful lighter brown soulful eyes! I am told it is difficult to resist them when I look so longingly up at my fosters (it even gets me extra treats sometimes!). I have had a rough last few months, you see, my elderly owner of 6 years passed away and her children took me in which seemed like a good thing at first. However, they made me an outside dog with their 2 large dogs and I was never used to living outside and did not make out to well there so they turned me into the shelter. I was terrified and afraid and the longer I was there I got even more afraid and got an ear infection so got a little snappy with the staff. Lucky for me the staff realized I was just scared and they called the nice people at CAP who came and took me to a foster home where I am living now! I did a 180 after 24 hours with them and have really come a long way in trusting them already! I get along well with other dogs, love people in general, I like some toys, am house trained, and have a really soft coat. Once I get to know you I am told my kisses are sweet and I like to cuddle! I really like belly rubs and like to have my humans in sight when they are home. I am not sure if I like cats, and my fosters were told I like kids, but it might take a little for me to warm up if they are little....I am not sure yet. I am neutered and up to date on vaccinations and like to lay on the sofa or a lap when I can. Everyone that meets me says I have a gorgeous coat as the colors are mixed and unique....just like me I guess. I am told I am very sweet and will make someone a great companion, could it be you? I would like to find my furever home and settle in for a long life with a new family I can call my own forever! Just complete an application at www.cockersacrosspa.org under the adopt tab and we can be together soon! FOSTER UPDATE Coco has really bonded with his foster dad and will run and make a flying leap from the floor to get to his lap for attention. He loves when his dad gives him attention and belly rubs. He loves to go for walks with his dad, although when he sees the leash he thinks it is time to roll over for belly rubs. However Coco doesn't trust easily and can be standoffish with new people. He would do best with a single person who is home most of the time. A fenced in yard for him to go out and come back inside on his own initially would be essential. He will be a wonderful companion for the right person who is willing to give him the time and space to learn to trust them.

A.K.A. : A mongrel, mixed-breed dog
Overview: A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.

More About Mutt Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Cocker Spaniel. HI All - Tabby here! I am an adorable darker buff girl who is 9 -10 years old with the energy and playfulness of a 2-3 year old! I am settling in nicely to my foster home after coming into rescue. I was initially very confused and afraid, but these nice people have let me come out of my shell and taught me so many new things and let me be me! I like to ride in the car and LOVE my walks, so much that I like to walk double what they do by sweeping back and forth. I love to cuddle and will play with soft toys some, but prefer to be in a lap and cuddle. I like to talk when someone new comes to the door or if I think you need to pet me more! I am told I give the best kisses and know some basic commands, but will try to avoid them if I can...I am not an aggressive personality and get along well with other dogs, kids and adults. I am microchipped and came face to face with a cat...but honestly, I was so excited about the trip out to a new place I do not really remember that very much. I am up to date on core vaccines and bordetella, house trained, spayed, and will have a dental exam and cleaning until you would take me home! Want a velcro cocker to love and get unconditional love in return? Complete an application at www.cockersacrosspa.org and I hope to meet you soon and we can be BFF's (Best Furry Friends)!
