Posted Breed: Terrier / Mixed (medium coat). Gizmo is a 3 year old, Carin Terrier mix, male pup with blond hair that is slightly curly. He is a cheerful, curious and clever little boy. He gets along well with other dogs and he likes to play. He will entertain himself by tossing around a toy and then running after it. I would describe Gizmo as an 'easy' dog as he has a beautiful dispostion and he's not overly demanding or needy. He is a sweet dog who really loves spending time with his people. They way he pounces like a cat will make you laugh every time. Gizmo is crate trained and house trained. Gizmo is neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations and micro-chipped. Adopt Gizmo for $125.

A.K.A. : A mongrel, mixed-breed dog
Overview: A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.

More About Mutt Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Chihuahua (short coat). Hi! My name is Bandit. I am a black and white male Chihuahua. I am 9 years young and weigh approximately 10 lbs. I am so lucky! I have the best Mom and Dad a pup could ever ask for. They love me to the moon and back. Our lives are changing though as, due to illness, they can’t care for me or my sister Nina like they used to. They want only the very best for me. That is why I am looking for a new family to love me. About me. I like treats. Snacks are good also. I like to walk…over to my food dish. (I kid!) I have to be honest with you. I’m not exactly at my ideal ‘target’ weight. Maybe you can help me with that? I like to have my ears rubbed and my parents want you to know that I have an adorable personality. (Blushing) I’m a laid back fellow. I like to smell flowers. I like to ride in my little wagon or in the basket on a walker. I get along well with other dogs. I am doggy door trained. I like to cuddle with my people. Do you like to cuddle too? I am neutered, up to date on vaccines and microchipped. My adoption fee is $80. If you’d like to meet me please fill out an online dog adoption application on the Animal Rescue Friends website. http://www.animalrescuefriends.org/dog-adoption-application.html

Posted Breed: Chihuahua (short coat). Hi! My name is Nina. I am a black and fawn female Chihuahua. I am 10 years young and I weigh approximately 10 lbs. I am so lucky! I have the best Mom and Dad a pup could ever ask for. Our lives are changing though as, due to illness, they can’t care for me or my brother Bandit anymore. So, I am here seeking a new family to love me now. I hope you take a chance on me as I still have so much more love to give! About me. I like to play fetch and go for walks. I love to give kisses and I am very good at it! I also love to eat treats…maybe a little too much. My waistline isn’t what it used to be so I’m thinking I may need to cut back on the snacks a little bit. My parents want you to know that I have an adorable personality. (Yes I do!) I get along well with other dogs but I might need a little time to adjust to my new environment. I am doggy door trained. I am spayed, up to date on vaccines and microchipped. My adoption fee is $80. Posted Breed: Chihuahua (short coat). Meet Cricket! Cricket is a female, white and tan Chihuahua mix that is approximately 2 years old. We don’t know what she is mixed with but she is taller than an average Chihuahua. She weighs approximately 9 lbs. One of our volunteers was assisting in the capture of a little white lost dog that was seen roaming in an alfalfa field. After 8 days of trying to catch the dog with sweet talk and treats, Cricket was humanely trapped on January 9th. Come to find out - she was not the dog that was lost. We certainly couldn’t leave this sweet girl out in the field so she’s an ARF pup now! Cricket came out of the crate ready to love and be loved! She was a little underweight back then and had some hair loss on the tip of her ears from living out in the elements but she looks great now. No health concerns were noted by the veterinarian. Cricket gets along fine with other dog, with cats and she loves her humans. She’s loving life in foster care. She has learned to play and what it’s like to be carefree, safe and loved. She is an absolute sweetheart! Cricket is spayed, up-to-date on all vaccines and comes with a lifetime registration microchip. Cricket’s adoption fee is $180. If you would like to meet / adopt Cricket please fill out an application on the Animal Rescue Friends website and one of our volunteers will give you a call. http://www.animalrescuefriends.org/dog-adoption-application.html

Posted Breed: Shepherd / Mixed (short coat). Hi! My name is Toby. If you are reading this you’ve obviously seen my picture. I told them to take a really good one because it will help me find a loving home. I hope I was smiling. :) Everyone seems to worry about me because I'm blind now but I don't really care about that. I'm just happy to be alive! Besides, my eyes were never my best quality anyway. It’s my personality that everyone loves! I know that everyone is curious and wants to know ‘my story’ so I’ll share that really quickly and then we can get on to the important stuff about me. I was found by some really nice people in Mexico. Someone mistreated me. I had extensive damage to both of my eyes. I'm told the pictures of my injuries are too graphic to post; both of my eyes were popping out of their sockets. The nice veterinarian said he thought someone may have choked me. I really don't remember and don't want to dwell on that. All these nice people rallied around me and raised enough money for me to get the surgery and medical care I needed! I got so excited to hear that I was going to the United States when I was all better. Well…I'm all healed and here I am in the care of ARF! Now on to the good stuff! I love being alive. Yes, I have to adjust to not being able to see but my sniffer works just fine! :) My ears work great too! I love to hear people say my name and I can’t help but wag my tail. (You guessed it! My tail works fine too!) I just arrived at my foster family’s house on April 24th so I haven’t been able to show them all the good stuff about me yet. They said that they will post more about me in the next few weeks. For now, I just wanted to introduce myself. I am looking for a family to adopt me and love me. Maybe it will be you! Just fill out an application on the Animal Rescue Friends website if you’d like to meet me. Love, Toby

Posted Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler / Mixed. Missy is a great dog!  She can be a little shy when she meets someone new but she warms up quickly. she prefers women and becomes attached very easily. she would do best with a single woman. Missy is a sweet pup and loyal friend.  When we rescued Missy she was expecting.  She was an amazing momma to her 7 puppies that have all been placed in forever homes.  Now it’s Missy’s turn to secure her happily ever after!  Missy is a playful girl and would enjoy a yard to explore and play in.  She is also happy to be a couch potato and watch TV with her people or hang out in your office with you while you work.  Missy gets along well with most dogs and has even appointed herself caretaker of a recent litter of puppies we rescued!  She is so gentle with them and happily keeps them all entertained!  Missy is housebroken and crate trained and she does very well riding in the car.  Adopt this sweet girl for $100.
