Posted Breed: Terrier / Mixed (medium coat). Gizmo is a 3 year old, Carin Terrier mix, male pup with blond hair that is slightly curly. He is a cheerful, curious and clever little boy. He gets along well with other dogs and he likes to play. He will entertain himself by tossing around a toy and then running after it. I would describe Gizmo as an 'easy' dog as he has a beautiful dispostion and he's not overly demanding or needy. He is a sweet dog who really loves spending time with his people. They way he pounces like a cat will make you laugh every time. Gizmo is crate trained and house trained. Gizmo is neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations and micro-chipped. Adopt Gizmo for $125.

A.K.A. : A mongrel, mixed-breed dog
Overview: A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.

More About Mutt Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Australian Kelpie / Mixed (short coat). Jinx is a Kelpie mix who loves to fetch and throw her rope toy in the air. She is very loyal to her person. Enjoys going for walks. Having a buddy to actively wrestle with would make her happy. She would do best in a home without cats. She is curious about them and if they run she will give chase. Due to her herding qualities children grade school and older would be ideal. She is housetrained and will use a dog door. Does not do well in kennel and would recommend she is penned when alone. She can be curious and mischievous. Jinx's adoption fee is $180 This includes her spay, rabies shot, and microchip.

Posted Breed: Beagle / Mixed (short coat). Bonnie is one super survivor! This girl was found pregnant and emaciated in the far East valley desert. Animal Rescue Friends accepted her and jumped into action to care for her and her puppies. Blood work revealed some organ damage as a result of the starvation she had endured. Once her pups were old enough to be weaned, multiple foster homes stepped up to care for her puppies and Bon nie was moved to a wonderful foster home to focus on healing and getting well. Dr. Julie Mayer ( www.integrativeveterinarian.com) coached us on a healthy home cooked diet and supplements to support her organs while they healed and ease her digestive tract to end the bouts of colitis she was experiencing. Bonnie responded like a champ and her bloodwork in now perfect! This little beauty steals the hearts of everyone she meets and she will soon be ready for a family to love and dote on her the way every dog deserves. If you want to be the lucky one Bonnie chooses to spend her life with, please submit an application at www.animalrescuefriends.org Bonnie is approx 3-4 years old and currently weighs 14.4 lbs. Her ideal weight will be approx 15 lbs. She will do well in a home with other dogs, cats and older children. It will be important that she remains on a good quality food (home cooked is no longer required). Adopt Bonnie for $180

Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier-Labrador Retriever Mix
      Sex: Female Female

Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Helen is a lab/pit mix with a wonderful personality. When her tail starts to wag her whole body wags. She loves walks and to hang out wherever you are. She loves car rides. She does great with all sizes of dogs and cats. Older children would be recommended only because her tail is strong. She is gentle with everyone and affectionate. She does have some separation anxiety initially. She will scale any wall to be near you. Once she gets past this the climbing stops. She is crate trained and leash trained. Daily exercise and social interaction are needed with this breed.
