Posted Breed: Terrier / Mixed (medium coat). Gizmo is a 3 year old, Carin Terrier mix, male pup with blond hair that is slightly curly. He is a cheerful, curious and clever little boy. He gets along well with other dogs and he likes to play. He will entertain himself by tossing around a toy and then running after it. I would describe Gizmo as an 'easy' dog as he has a beautiful dispostion and he's not overly demanding or needy. He is a sweet dog who really loves spending time with his people. They way he pounces like a cat will make you laugh every time. Gizmo is crate trained and house trained. Gizmo is neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations and micro-chipped. Adopt Gizmo for $125.

A.K.A. : A mongrel, mixed-breed dog
Overview: A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.

More About Mutt Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler / Mixed (medium coat). Missy ISO single person for my forever fur-mom/dad! Age: 5 years Sex: Female Weight: 40 pounds Breed: Mutt (cattle dog mix) PERSONALITY Hi - I'm Missy! I'm placing an add to find my fur-ever Mom/Dad. I’m a really devoted partner who loves snacks, belly rubs and a dog bed to snooze on. I’m definitely not ‘high-maintenance’ cuz I like the simple things in life :) I prefer someplace quiet without a lot of new things happening in my life. I’ve already been through many life changes and I’m ready to settle down into a safe, calm environment. I do tend to like females over men but sometimes I do hit it off with a guy. I just need your patience and understanding as we get to know each other. Let’s just take it slow ;) Basics I'm a healthy girl and I'm completely vetted including microchipped. I like to be wherever my person is and would even sleep in your bed if you let me. I'm house trained and not destructive. (well….does paper count?) I really just want someone to love me like I am. My Plea I really want a fur-mom/dad of my own. I need someone to give me a chance. Let me come stay with you for awhile and you will see how loyal I am. I will always stand up for you. I just need you to understand that I don't like meeting new people but I do get better once I get to know them. There has got to be someone else that's single that wants my love and loyalty. Adopt this sweet girl for $100. www.animalrescuefriends.org

      Breed: Chihuahua-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Baby
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat). Lil’ Bit is a female, white Chihuahua mix puppy that weighs 7lbs and is approximately 10 months old. Her ears are kind of unique; they stand up on the bottom but are floppy on top for extra cuteness! This sweet girl is everything a puppy should be! She is friendly, curious, funny, happy and playful. She is also an affectionate little cuddle bug. She loves belly rubs and her coat is so, so soft! Lil’ is a playful girl and gets along very well with other dogs. She would make a great playmate for a canine sibling. She likes to play fetch and have a gentle game of tug. She also enjoys playing with stuffed toys and with chew toys like Nylabones. She LOVES treats! Lil’ Bit will bark when the landscaper is in the yard or when the garbage truck comes, other than that she is not very vocal. Lil’ Bit does not like to be kenneled. She is working on her house training and she rides well in the car. Lil’ Bit likes to sleep with her person. She will snuggle in next to you for warmth and protection. Due to her small size, Lil’ Bit would do best in a home with no children or with older children only. If you would like to meet this joyful little soul please complete the dog adoption application on the Animal Rescue Friends website and one of our volunteers will contact you. Lil’ Bit is spayed, had her Rabies, Bordetella and DA2PP/DHPP (Parvo) vaccines and comes with a lifetime registration microchip. Puppies require a lot of time, attention and companionship. If you need to leave the dog alone for extended periods of time, please consider adopting an older dog. Lil’ Bit’s adoption fee is $180. http://www.animalrescuefriends.org/dog-adoption-application.html

Posted Breed: Chihuahua (short coat). Hi! My name is Bandit. I am a black and white male Chihuahua. I am 9 years young and weigh approximately 10 lbs. I am so lucky! I had the best Mom and Dad a pup could ever ask for. They loved me to the moon and back. Our lives are changing though as, due to illness, they can’t care for me or my sister Nina like they used to. They want only the very best for us. That is why we are looking for a new family to love us. Please adopt us together for we are very bonded! About me. I like treats. Snacks are good also. I like to walk…over to my food dish. (I kid!) I have to be honest with you. I’m not exactly at my ideal ‘target’ weight. Maybe you can help me with that? I like to have my ears rubbed and my parents want you to know that I have an adorable personality. (Blushing) I’m a laid back fellow. I like to smell flowers. I like to ride in my little wagon or in the basket on a walker. I get along well with other dogs. I am doggy door trained. I like to cuddle with my people. Do you like to cuddle too? I am neutered, up to date on vaccines and microchipped. My adoption fee is $80. If you’d like to meet me please fill out an online dog adoption application on the Animal Rescue Friends website. http://www.animalrescuefriends.org/dog-adoption-application.html
