Posted Breed: Corgi / Mixed (short coat). Our beautiful Bruno does not ask for much. A place to lay his head, someone to love, and a small amount of special care. Bruno is currently living with other dogs and very happy to be out of a shelter where he was left by his former owners. He is around 12 years old and 25lbs. Bruno is diabetic and will require daily insulin injections. He has some vision loss but navigates his foster home and yard well. His foster mom says that he is a very easy going companion. Bruno is a wonderful dog who deserved more than to be left in his golden years in an overcrowded shelter. Do you have the love in your heart to make the rest of his years his best? Email opundo@operationunderdog.org for more information or an application to adopt! Neutered, fully vaccinated, microchipped, heartworm free and on preventatives! Adoption fees range between $100.00 and $150.00.

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Black and Tan Coonhound (short coat). Looking for a dashingly handsome hound? Cosmo fits the bill! And good looks are just the tip of the iceberg! His personality is shining and he happens to be as sharp as a tack. Cosmo can be silly and is always super sweet. We first met this special boy when he was an intake at the local shelter, Cosmo came in on the thin side, but rapidly began to lose a large amount of weight. He was eating and even receiving medical care, but still could not keep weight on. The shelter knew just who to call as a last ditch effort at saving him. After a few days in foster care, a condition called EPI was suspected as the culprit, and treatment immediately began. Animals with EPI cannot digest and absorb their food due to the pancreas not producing enzymes. This is treated by putting an enzyme powder on all food he consumes. After one month on pancreatic enzymes, he has gained 32 lbs.,weighing in at 69 lbs now. We are so thankful that this amazing boy, who was truly at death's door, is now happy and strong. He will bring a huge amount of joy to a lucky family that is willing to provide a small amount of special care. Email us with questions or for an application.

Posted Breed: Hound / Greyhound / Mixed (short coat). Rosie is a gentle, beautiful girl. She is good with dogs, cats, and kids. She plays the part of a pampered princess quite well, but she also enjoys being active in the great outdoors! Rosie would love to be placed in a forever home with another dog around her age. She likes to play and would be a good friend for another pup. She also needs a family who understands that she has a bit of a wandering heart. Rosie needs a securely fenced yard and a watchful family. She would love to take regular walks and hikes so that she can explore the world with her owners. Email opundo@operationunderdog.org for an application to adopt!
