Posted Breed: Poodle (Standard) / Labrador Retriever (long coat). Adoption Fee: $399. Thank you for your interest in dog who needs a new home. Adoption can be one of the most fulfilling experiences in your life and especially in the life of your new canine companion. A note to those looking at CPR. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. Our job is to find those someone's. Our most successful adopters come to CPR not because they want a dog. They come to us because they want to give a dog a home. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. While we like to know what you like in looks, a dog is more than a pretty face. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families. Our descriptions contain all that we know about this dog today. We'll update as more information is known. Are you looking to adopt within the next 30 days? If so please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and complete the application. You'll find it in the menu on the left hand side. You'll also find a total listing of all our dogs available. Just browsing but interested in poodles and poodle mixes? Please drop a note to applications@carolinapoodlerescue.org with your name, address and phone # and email. We'll add you to our mailing list. thanks the CPR Adoption team Chewbacca is looking for a place to rest his head at night and start over! His fearful past does not determine his bright future. Date into Rescue: 12/3/2016 Reason for being in rescue: Found as stray after hurricane Mathew, Horry County Shelter. Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? Chewbacca is people selective and needs someone that can work with his issues! Weight: Estimated 50-60 lbs Height: Estimated 20" at the shoulder. Adoption Fee: $399 Fence needed? Yes, but also should be leashed walked at first. Chewbacca is nervous in new situations. What kind of home would be best for me? An only dog home, must have patience, He is also Male selective. What is my personality like? Chewbacca was found as a stray after Hurricane Mathew. When he first arrived, he was terrified and shut down.. but since then he has came great strides into the dog he is now. He always wants to be on the go and loves to have things that keep him busy, outside of his crate he is back and forth between doors just itching to do something! He does need some leash work, once his nose is to the ground he gets carried away and pulls. He has sat for a treat before, but tends to get distracted sometimes. Chewbacca is nervous in new situations and may growl and try to snap/bite but after he knows he is okay he loves to have attention and his back scratched.. but only if you can keep his curious mind still long enough! (It can be hard to get a read on Chewbacca because he is people selective! Some people he is perfectly okay with and while others, not so much. He needs a dominant and patient owner that can help him work through his issues.) Caregiver update 6/29/17: "If Chewy likes you, he likes you. If he doesn't, he will let you know that. He is not the overly affectionate type of dog. When he's comfortable enough, he will let his guard down and let you love on him. Showing too much love back doesn't seem to be his thing. Playing hard to get? Maybe! He did pretty good on leash; not too much pulling. He enjoyed his time in the big field where he got to explore all the new smells and see all the new sights. He listens well and so far has adjusted well here at the rescue. He needs a patient owner that will allow Chewbacca to be himself and get fully comfortable. He doesn't seem interested in toys, but can sit on command. He's a catch for sure, just need to find the lucky owners who will realize it." How I act when I first meet new people: Cautious, and may snap/bite out of fear. you have to take it easy once I warm up I am fine. House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. My age: Estimated birth date 12/5/2010 Please note - we do not ship dogs. If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip. Most of our dogs are at our farm in Pacolet, South Carolina. To apply, please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and visit the tab on the left that directions you to the online application. Please note that when screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, color, age, etc. Others here may be a better fit for you. It is very difficult to get to know a living animal from a picture and a short description. Since we are constantly getting in new dogs, this may be a dog not in our listings yet. We want you to be very happy with your new companion and will make suggestions based on what you tell us about you. Thank you for considering CPR.

More About Poodle (Standard) Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Date into Rescue: 2/8/2017 Reason for being in rescue: Pulled from a NC shelter, Oreo was surrendered by her owner when they moved. Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? Oreo came to us with heartworms, but tested negative 12/3/2017! No more heartworms! Weight: 79 lb Height: Estimated 17 in at the shoulder Spayed/Neutered: Yes Adoption Fee: $125 Fence needed? Not needed, but Oreo would love one What kind of home would be best for me? Oreo would love somewhere to romp and play and run and then cuddle time with her person! She is good with dogs around her size and would love a dog friend to play and spend time with. She does not need to go to a home with other small animals; she seems to think they are toys. What is my personality like? Oreo came to the rescue as a bonded pair with her little poodle friend, Bailey. They were not bonded and Oreo really found herself when they were separated, so we decided to adopt them separately. Oreo loves to romp and play. She is always running and playing in our big field with her other big dog friends. After a full day of play she loves to lie in the sun or in the cool grass. Oreo has a pretty moderate energy level. She is pretty independent for the most part, but she does enjoy being affectionate with people. How do I act when I first meet new people? Friendly. Other tips and tidbits: House trained? Mia would be great in a number of settings as long as her people are energetic and do a lot. She is a lot of girl. She also loves toys. She will chase after them and play. She can sit on command and seems to listen really well. Still has a habit of jumping up on people, but that can be corrected. How do I act when I first meet new people? Mia needs an active home that understands that big girls need play time and running time. She'd be a great running companion. Other tips and tidbits: She has lots of energy and does well with the big dogs in the field. She doesn't pay any mind to the little dogs. House trained? Date into Rescue: 8/25/2017 Reason for being in rescue: Pulled from a SC shelter, was found as a stray Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? None noted Weight: 44 lb Height: 19-20 in at the shoulder Spayed/Neutered: Yes Adoption Fee: $200 Fence needed? I would love a fenced in area to explore in.. Or just a lot of walks. What kind of home would be best for me? I am looking for my retirement home somewhere maybe on a farm where I can bask in the sunshine and go on lots of nature walks. What is my personality like? I'm a older lady but not too old! I still love to wander through the woods and play a little with dogs of my size. When I am outside there is nothing stopping this nose from working. I could sniff and roam all day long and come home to soak my paws and take it easy. That would be the perfect life for me. I don't ask for much! I get carried away while on a leash so a harness would be best to walk me with since I like to pull. Treats? Ooooh I love them. This lady at Carolina Poodle Rescue thinks that I know basic commands but it has just been awhile since this gal has had to do them. My story is short and sweet.. I was found as a stray in South Carolina and taken to a local shelter.. but now I am at the farm! I don't get to roam as much as I'd like to though.. and I would also love to be reminded on how to be a pet again. How do I act when I first meet new people? Friendly.. but it is hard to get my attention with my nose to the ground. Other Tips and Tidbits: House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. I'm still getting used to everything around here but considering everything I've been through (hurricane Irma and moving so much during rescue) my caregivers say I'm doing great! Date into Rescue: 3/14/2017 Reason for being in rescue: Owner release to NC shelter, owner moving. Foster location: Foster home in Rocky Mount, NC Special Needs? None noted Weight: about 9 lb Height: about 10 in at the shoulder Spayed/Neutered: Yes Adoption Fee: $329 with my sister Carol, we love each other and I am her eyes Fence needed? No What kind of home would be best for me? Hershel and Carol are two little warm lapfuls of love. Because Carol is blind we prefer a one story home with adults only. She is very grounded and happy despite her vision issues but children may not understand when she walks slowly. Hershel and Carol love to lay in the sun so while a fenced in yard is not required, it would be nice to have an area they can hang with you and Carol can't get into trouble wandering into a place she should not. What is my personality like? Hershel is easy, laid back and happy go lucky. He enjoys life. How do I act when I first meet new people? Friendly Other tips and tidbits: House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. Please note - we do not ship dogs. If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip. None noted Weight: Estimated 39.6 lbs Height: Estimated 17 in at the shoulder Spayed/Neutered: Yes Adoption Fee: $99 Fence needed? Yes What kind of home would be best for me? Nate would best fit in with a home of loving and active people. He would do fine with kids as well who enjoy playing with a hyper dog. What is my personality like? Nate is a very loving and outgoing boy. His favorite activity is giving hugs. He has a lot of energy considering how young he is. Nate has mainly done well with both the big and little dogs he has met along with cats. Because of his hyper nature, he does pull on a leash, but that is something that can be fixed when in a home with consistency. Once he has his play time, Nate can be a laid back boy who loves his belly rubbed. Overall, Nate would be best for active people wanting an adventurous dog to take places. How do I act when I first meet new people? Very loving with new people Other tips and tidbits: Hank was one of the dogs we took in cooperation with our partner groups. Hank was in a Florida shelter when Hurricane Irma hit House trained? Date into Rescue: 1/26/2017 Reason for being in rescue: Owner release along with her siblings because the owner could not care for the dogs any longer. Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? None noted Weight: 38.8 lb Height: Estimated 8.5 in at the shoulder. Spayed/Neutered: Yes Adoption Fee: $200 Fence needed? Fence is recommended until she is fully leash trained What kind of home would be best for me? June needs a home that understands working with an under socialized dog. June is ready to bloom into a wonderful pet! June has the potential to be a great, completely loyal dog with the right patient person. She has been cat tested and does not mind them. She is also okay with other dogs as long as they are not overbearing and do not scare her. What is my personality like? June has no idea what it is like to completely be someone's "loved pet". She needs work with being socialized. Although she is still weary of new people, she has improved quite a bit since she first got to CPR. She allows certain caregivers to love on her and she showers them with kisses. If you open up your heart to her, she will gladly walk in, four paws and all! June is slowly improving, but she can be very anxious and scared. Once she shows her trust personality, she is a very sweet girl and loves to keep your attention and "talk" with you. How do I act when I first meet new people? Weary and shy, but wants to be loved and quickly attaches to those she bonds with. Other tips and tidbits: June needs to continue working on her leash training and commands. She doesn't love her crate, but is crate trained. June LOVES to be brushed! House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. None noted Weight: 57 lb Height: Estimated 10 in at the shoulder Spayed/Neutered: Yes Adoption Fee: $200 Fence needed? A fence would be ideal until fully leash trained What kind of home would be best for me? Hank needs a kind, low-key and patient home that does not mind working with him. Hank came to the rescue from a very under-socialized environment. He has made lots of progress, but is still learning what being someone's pet really is. He is good with other dogs, but does not care for cats. What is my personality like? Hank's story is more like a song. His past is rocky which is why he is so unsure of new people, but boy does this dog have potential. Hank has been with us for 6 months and it's so hard to believe that the terrified dog hiding in the back of his pen is now this bright vibrant lap dog. We have put real dedication into this guy and it surely shows. This insecure, troubled soul has turn into a glorified toy hoarder and a huge baby that loves to give kisses. All he really wants is just to be a families dog. Not a yard ornament. Not something to look at when you are bored. But a real part of your family. Mind you, Hank is still apprehensive of new people, but he has shown us if you are willing to try with him then he will most definitely try with you. Winning him over just takes a little time and his favorite snack of course - cheese puffs! He still needs leash work; we think he will learn successfully with time and a front walking harness. How do I act when I first meet new people? Weary of new people. It takes a little time but then he is basically a lap dog. Other tips and tidbits: Hank can be VERY affectionate once he's comfortable with someone and he really loves cheese puffs! House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained.
