Posted Breed: Staffordshire Bull Terrier (short coat). This little beauty is Penny. She is a girl with a lot of love to give. She came in after being hit by a car and has undergone orthopedic surgery, as well as having her mangled tail shortened, but none of that has slowed her down! Penny is great with kids, very affectionate, and very obedient but must be a single dog. This angel has waited 3 years in our shelter. Wont you give her the home she deserves?

More About Staffordshire Bull Terrier Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Hound (medium coat). Yes, I know this is not a dog. But there was no "pig" option to list him as and I wanted to get him online to find a home! This is Keno. His owner passed away and he was sent to animal control. He was quickly transferred into our care where he currently lives in a foster home. He is neutered and fully house trained. Yes, Keno is a "house" pig. He's always lived in a house and needs to go to a home where this is the intention. He likes to snack on fresh fruits and vegetables, cuddle and needs a loving home! He gets along well with other pigs, cats and dogs.

      Breed: Mutt
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Shepherd / Mixed (short coat). Maggie was given up when her owner passed away. They turned her over to our local animal control office. She was then transferred to our rescue to find a new home. Shortly after transfer Maggie began favoring her back leg. We took her to the vet thinking it was just a pulled muscle however it was discovered she had tumor growing in her leg which had broken the bone. Maggie then went in for leg amputation surgery so is now a "tripod" doggie.

Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier-Chinese Shar-Pei Mix
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Shar Pei / Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). On September 11th, 2015 Sonny was hit by a car in Chicago and taken to Chicago Animal Care and Control. He sat there for almost a week.....his euthanasia date was set but that didn't stop ICARe president Margaret from doing everything possible to save his life. After many, many phone calls and emails we got Sonny to safety and more importantly to see the vet! Tests were done showing a spinal cord injury that will not heal. Sonny had no use of his back legs. He also could not urinate on his own so his bladder had to be expressed manually. Let me tell you how amazing this dog is. He can now urinate on his own AND even more amazing is Sonny is getting therapy and regaining the function in his back legs. He can take several steps and stand on his own! Sonny has some wheels to help him get around on longer walks as his front end is very strong and he is perfectly capable of going all over! Sonny needs a special, special forever home. A family that will love him and treat him like a king.

      Ricky

      Breed: Treeing Walker Coonhound-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Treeing Walker Coonhound / Hound / Mixed (short coat). Meet Ricky. He has been awaiting a forever home for nearly 3 years!!! Ricky is handsome and well mannered in the home and in public, and just needs to find the right fit in terms of placement. He is great with other large breed dogs, but not good with small dogs or cats. Ricky is frightened by small children, but does great with kids 12 and up. Ricky is capable of jumping any fence known to man, so he needs to be walked on a leash. He walks nicely on a leash, and is perfect for someone with an active life-style. He is SUPER smart, and would make a good hunting/fishing companion. He is protective of his home and owner, and is an excellent judge of character! He has a very comical nature and is the source of many laughs at the shelter. Can you give this boy a good home?
