Posted Breed: Staffordshire Bull Terrier / Labrador Retriever (short coat). Well hello there! It's me, Trail, and I'm looking for my own FURever family! I mean, I love all the people I come in contact with at Southern Friends Animal Society and all, but what I'd really like is a family to call my own. I LOVE LOVE LOVE to play with treats and toys...life is all about having fun to a sweet, lovable boy like me! I even take my treats gently and all the other dogs barking don't phase me! I'm just a good ole boy lookin' for love. Are you the one I've been waiting for? If so, let my friends at Southern Friends know and they'll arrange for you to meet me! Thank you and hope to see you soon! I'm neutered, up to date on shots and heartworm negative. I also have my own Facebook page, "Trail's Journey", where you can see more pictures, videos and find out what I'm up to! ~Trail Affection, love, loyalty and entertainment all wrapped up in one package! Trail will patiently wait by your side no matter what you're doing. He's just happy to be with his human. But he gets oh so happy when given a special treat or toy! Then it's entertainment time! Trail loves to play and gets down right silly. Guaranteed to bring a smile to your face!

More About Staffordshire Bull Terrier Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Breed: Collie-Labrador Retriever Mix
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Collie / Mixed (medium coat). Shadow has her name because she was the "shadow" to Sweet Pea (already adopted). She, Sweet Pea and about 25 other dogs taken in by Southern Friends Animal Society were part of a hoarding case in North Mississippi in February. Sweet Pea was adopted and Shadow has proven to do well on her own. She has a had other dogs in the run with her and they have gotten along great. She loves toys, especially squeaky ones! :) Shadow was leery of new people, but is learning to trust and let us pet her some. She's a beautiful girl and will make a great pet! She's also showing a playful side and enjoys fetch! She has come such a long way and we are so proud of her! She is spayed, UTD on shots and heartworm negative (on preventative). Please consider making Shadow a member of your family.

Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Mixed (medium coat). My name is Kensie. I came here as a stray and am loving it here. I get food, water and lovin' on a regular basis! I enjoy playing with toys and people. As you can see, I'm quite photogenic! I also love treats (that's how they got me to look toward the camera) and know "sit". I would prefer a home where I am the only pet so I can get all of the attention and would do best with children 10 years and up. Oh, and I come with a couple of tennis balls! :) Kensie is UTD on shots, heartworm negative and spayed.

Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog / Akita / Mixed (medium coat). Hi there! My name is Bonnie, but my friends call me BonBon! So, you can call me BonBon! I’m a beautiful five-year-old Akita/Shepherd mix. I have a happy curly tail, a lazy left ear, and a smile that could give sunshine and rainbows a run for their money. Belly rubs and treats make me a very happy pupper! I’ll also sit for treats. I’m very well behaved and have very good manners, too! I get along with other dogs as long as they are submissive. I am UTD (up-to-date) on shots and have been spayed. I was heartworm positive, but have been successfully treated. While I was going through treatment, my brother and I were in a foster home with our sweet former foster mommy, Karen. I never had any accidents in the house and did very well in a crate. I do very well on car rides to and from adoption events. I’m very good with other dogs too, but I prefer to be with a male than with a female. I came into Southern Friends with my brother, Clyde, when a nice human rescued us off the streets of Memphis. It has been almost three years since then and Clyde has been adopted, but I’m still here. I’m as optimistic as ever that I’ll get my forever family very soon! Hopefully one with a kid. I LOVE kids!! I get so excited when I see one because I just KNOW they’ll play with me all day long and let me give them kisses. I’m just a small-town dog living in a lonely world! Will you give me a forever home?

Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever (short coat). Bronco here and I'm a big HAPPY boy! I'm not quite a year old yet and would love to have a large yard with my own kids to play with! I enjoy fetching (well, more like keep away) and running around in this nice weather we've been having. I like other dogs, too. I require a 6 ft. wooden fence because of my size. I'd love to have some kids (ages 10+ because I'm a big boy) to play with, too. Would you like to make me a part of your family? Bronco is up to date on his shots, neutered and heartworm negative (on preventative).

Posted Breed: Manchester Terrier (medium coat). Hey folks, my name is Portia! I'm a fun-loving, sweet, affectionate, playful, pretty little girl who is wanting her very own family to be a part of! I'm still young and have a lot of playfulness in me so I would be good with kids and/or another dog! I'm kinda on the small side...around 20-25 lbs. I am believed to be a Manchester Terrier (possibly mixed with who knows what) so I'm like a bigger Min Pin. I came from further south looking for a fresh start in life. Would you like to make me a part of your family? If so, let the caregivers at Southern Friends Animal Society know so you can fill out an adoption application and maybe take me home! I'd LOVE that! Hope to meet you soon. Love, Portia

Note: She does require a 6 ft Wooden Fence as she can scale or climb a chain link! :) Dora is UTD on shots, spayed and heartworm negative.

Posted Breed: Flat-coated Retriever / Labrador Retriever / Mixed. Joy is a gorgeous Flat-Coated Retriever mix with flowing black hair! She and her littermates were strays found roaming around near a street in Southaven in May when they were 2-3 months old. They were all very timid around people, but they have come so far thanks to our volunteers who have spent time with them! Even children have come to read to them. Joy is still a little skittish and will need to go to a home where her humans are patient with her, but she will be a wonderful dog as she continues to learn to trust people (treats work with her!) She and her sister, York, are our Black Beauties! They will both do well with another dog to show them the ropes. Joy is utd on shots, spayed and on heartworm preventative.
