Breed overview
Overview:
The Shar-Poo is a captivating crossbreed resulting from the pairing of a Chinese Shar-Pei and a Standard Poodle, offering a unique blend of traits. Originating from designer breed initiatives, these dogs are bred for their distinctive appearance and often reduced shedding. Physically, they can inherit the Shar-Pei's characteristic wrinkles, though typically less pronounced, combined with the Poodle's curly or wavy, low-allergen coat, making them potentially more suitable for individuals with allergies. Their size can vary depending on the Poodle's size, but generally they are medium-sized. Temperamentally, Shar-Poos are often described as intelligent, loyal, and playful, benefiting from early socialization to ensure a well-rounded personality. They can adapt well to apartment living if provided with sufficient daily exercise and mental stimulation, and with proper training, they make wonderful family pets. Health-wise, they may inherit some conditions from their parent breeds, such as hip and elbow dysplasia, eye problems, and certain skin conditions, making responsible breeding and regular veterinary check-ups essential.
