Originating in Ireland in the 18th century, they were initially bred as gundogs, excelling in flushing and retrieving game. Physically, they are medium-large dogs, typically standing between 25-27 inches tall and weighing 60-70 pounds, with a lean, muscular build and expressive, intelligent eyes. Their temperament is generally described as outgoing, intelligent, and affectionate, often maintaining a playful, puppy-like demeanor well into adulthood.
