The Bernese Mountain Dog is a striking and gentle breed originating from the Swiss Alps, where they were traditionally used as farm dogs for herding, guarding, and pulling carts. Temperamentally, Berners are renowned for their calm, affectionate, and loyal nature, making them excellent companions. They are generally good with children and other pets, fitting well into active family life, though their size makes them less ideal for small apartment living without ample outdoor access.
