They are an excellent choice for families due to their patient and loving demeanor, though their energy levels mean they thrive with active owners and a good-sized yard, making them less ideal for small apartment living without sufficient exercise. While generally healthy, potential health considerations can include hip and elbow dysplasia, eye conditions, and certain cancers, inherited from their parent breeds.
