Breed overview
Overview:
The Saint Bernewfie is a giant hybrid created by crossing the Newfoundland and Saint Bernard, emerging as a modern, family-oriented mix in North America. Physically, they are massive, with a broad frame, heavy bone, and a thick double coat that can be wavy or straight in various colors. Their temperament is famously gentle and patient—true “gentle giants” who are affectionate, calm, and devoted to their people. Best suited for families with spacious homes and secure yards, they are not ideal for apartment living due to their size and grooming needs. Exercise requirements are low to moderate, favoring daily walks and light play. Notable health considerations include joint issues (hip/elbow dysplasia), bloat, and occasional heart concerns, so responsible breeding and preventive care are essential.
