The Yorkshire Terrier, affectionately known as a "Yorkie," is a popular small dog breed originating from 19th-century Yorkshire, England, where they were initially used to catch rats in clothing mills. Despite their diminutive size, typically weighing between 4 to 7 pounds, they possess a big personality. Key physical characteristics include a compact body, a small head, and their most distinctive feature: a long, silky, straight coat that is a striking steel blue on the body and tail, and a rich golden tan on the head and chest. Temperamentally, Yorkies are known for being spunky, intelligent, and confident, often displaying a surprisingly bold nature. They are generally adaptable and can thrive in various living situations, making them well-suited for apartment living due to their small stature and moderate exercise needs.
