verifiedPosted Breed: Basset Hound / Dachshund / Mixed (short coat). Please contact Pet (informationpethelpersinc) for more information about this pet. In February 2013 it was a normal shopping trip to our local Walmart for some essentials. What was not on my list was 5 beautiful puppies but as I pulled into the parking lot I see, being handed out to people from the back of a car some little puppies. The rescuer in me kicked in and I approached the car telling them I was with Pet Helpers and would gladly take the puppies, find them indoor homes, make sure they were fixed and would fix mom for them for free…..and I left with the 5 puppies. We were told they were Dachshund mix but later we came to realize it was more likely Bassett mix. All 5 of the Walmart litter got adopted to great families and then in March 2016 we received a call from the adoptive family of the pup known as Nelly renamed Mya that Mya had suffered a back injury and was not able to walk. They didn’t know what to do…..they could not afford the surgery and was not sure they could even commit to all that would be involved in her after care as they had just had a baby and felt overwhelmed as it was. They were afraid they were going to have to put Mya to sleep. We did not feel we could let that happen because we had the funds to do the surgery and how could we not give her a chance. The next obstacle would be to find a foster home which really was not an obstacle at all because our fosters step up when others will not. Mya got her foster home and we scheduled surgery for 3/23/16. It was discovered she had severe herniated discs between the L1 and L2. We could only hope for the best and say a prayer that Mya would walk again. What we did not realize or consider was that though we found a foster that as Mya progressed in her recovery that for her to really progress she needed a foster where she could work those legs and not be confined to a crate so much. So we began Physical Therapy at Cheat Lake Animal Hospital with Mya, hoping to enable her to be able to walk independently. She received laser therapy and stretching, manual nerve stimulation of her paws/pads, had to walk/lift her feet over 4" high bars, do figure-eights around cones for balance, stretch and stand on 2 legs, then underwater treadmill for 3 sets of 4 minutes each. But what we now realize is the best thing for Mya is a home environment where she can be free roaming. Mya does not have bowel/bladder control, so wears a diaper but does seem to know she needs to go! She currently weighs about 35-36 pounds which is too much for her. That will easily come off with some dietary changes and exercise which we are hoping she will get if we can find either a foster or forever that is setup to have a dog like Mya. Mya can lift her hindquarters, assume a wide stance and walks/runs but we believe even that would improve if she could be free roaming. We have tried a cart with Mya and she is not a fan. If she had the ability to be free roaming a cart would not be needed she would be on her feet in no time. We believe she is a Basset hound/Dachshund mix. Mya is 6 years old and is full of love and life and would dearly love to have her own family once again. She is fostered in Fairmont, WV. If you are that special kind of person that would continue to help Mya become independently mobile while sharing your life with her, please complete an adoption application at .pethelpersinc/adoption-application/ Mya is located in Fairmont WV. She is up to date on her vaccinations, is spayed and is receiving a dental as I type this. For more information on this animal email adoptionisforeverpethelpersinc. Pet Helpers is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit foster based volunteer rescue located in Fairmont, WV. We do adopt out of state to approved applicants, if you are willing to drive to WV to pick up your pet. We do not fly or use transport companies. Our adoption fee is $150.00 for mixed breed puppies and adult dogs, $225.00 for full blooded puppies and adult dogs and $50.00 for cats and kittens. Regardless if the animal is a mixed breed or full blooded they are spayed/neutered prior to adoption IF they are old enough. If they are too young at the time of adoption, then it is your financial responsibility to spay/neuter the pet by the age of 6 months and you must provide proof for our files that it has been done. All of our pets are checked by a vet, given the shots appropriate for their age and any other treatment deemed necessary by the vet. All of our pets are adopted as indoor pets and are not be outdoors tied to a box 24/7. The pet you are adopting has been living in a home with a foster family. You are expected to take possession of the pet you are applying for within a few days of application approval. This will enable us to accept another pet into that home. Because we are a rescue, and believe that spaying and neutering is crucial in stopping the reproduction of unwanted puppies/kittens and massive amounts of animals dying daily in shelters across the country, we expect any animal already in your home to be spayed/neutered. If for any reason you are unable to keep the pet you have adopted you are required to return them to Pet Helpers, Inc. They are not to be sold or given away. Check us out on Facebook!!!!!! We hope you will give us two paws up, like our page and share with your friends. Pet Helpers, Inc.

verifiedPosted Breed: Basset Hound / Dachshund / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: $300.00. Who out there doesn't want to own a castle?? Well here's your chance. And just like with castles, I am a bit high maintenance. I came from a horrible living situation where I was kept with 35 other dogs by a hoarder. Thankfully I am an absolute wonderful boy. I love people and other dogs. My demands are the need to live with another dog who loves to play as much as I do and have someone home more often than not. I go to work with my foster now and I love it. I have never been alone and do not like being alone for too long. I love to go for long walks, chew on my antler and shred a stuffed animal or two. I also love to eat. Keep a close eye on your plate. If it's left alone it's mine. If you are able to give me what I need please ask about meeting me. I am waiting patiently for my forever family. If you would like to learn more about Castle please contact Christine at niccar14yahoo littlepawsdachshundrescue.rescuegroups/forms/form_humanverify?formid=2724 The adoption fee for Castle is $300. If Castle is adopted over a state line there will be a $45.00 charge for a health certificate (required by law). All dogs adopted in New England are charged an additional $150 to cover regulatory requirements. Transportation Help If you see a fur baby that is a match for your family, don’t let distance stand in the way of your adoption. LPDR can work with you to transport the dog to you.Tags:
