    Maggie

    Breed: Chihuahua
    Sex: Female Female
    Age: Senior
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Chihuahua (short coat). This little one is as cute as can be, makes you wonder why anyone would want to dump her at a shelter. Maggie is 10 years old and found herself at a high-kill shelter after her family decided they didn't want her anymore. She is all of 8 pounds and is very sweet. She does bark at new people at first but she isn't mean. Maggie loves to lounge around all day in all of her doggy beds, she moves from bed to bed and makes herself comfortable. She likes to snooze a lot but she does perk up and run around the house. She is always near you and underfoot so she wouldn't be great in a home with toddlers or the elderly. Maggie is picky with food but usually eats canned food and you have to coax her to take her heartworm pills by strategically hiding them in something she likes to eat. She will try to cover food with things at first. It's very comical to see. She loves chewies and gets one a couple times a week to keep her teeth cleaned. She had a dental a few months ago. Maggie does have some things that happen to a lot of senior dogs. She is deaf, she has been since we got her. She has allergies and seems to get ear infections quite often. We keep ear ointment around just incase. She hates having it put in and she will object by carrying on but lets us do it. The infections are probably what caused her to go deaf. She does chew on her feet and lick herself a lot but she doesn't cause any self harm. When it gets bad we put some itch relieving spray on it. She is blind in one eye and has the start of glaucoma and a luxating lens. It doesn't seem to hurt her and the vet has seen it but recommended not doing anything unless it was painful. So she is blind in that one eye, the other eye is slightly cloudy and has the start of a cataract but she can still see out of it. When we got her we had her spayed once she was over kennel cough and she had pyrometria which is a uterine infection that could have killed her so she was lucky we took her when we did. She has healed fully from that. She also had a small mammary mass removed as well but so far everything seems ok. Her bloodwork was good and she is doing well. She is ok being picked up but if held too long will flail and squirm. So she isn't exactly a lap dog, but does want to be pet. Maggie tolerates cats as long as they aren't in her face and gets along with the other dog in the house. Only time there was some growling was when food was involved and the other dog tried to take hers. Overall, she is a sweet little girl with a lot of love to give and needs the perfect home for her needs. Someone that will love her and take care of her forever. She deserves that. She is a real character and would put a smile on your face. She is mostly housetrained but sometimes has accidents. She hates the crate so we don't put her in one. To adopt Maggie is $250.00 which includes her spay, dental, vaccinations, heartworm test and microchip. Maggie will not be at our adoption centers but if you are interested in her please email her foster at: arforce3aol
