  • Rottweiler-American Pit Bull Terrier Dog For Adoption in Landenberg, PA, USA

    Louie

    verified

    rescue
    Breed: Rottweiler-American Pit Bull Terrier
    Sex: Male Male
    Age: Young
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Rottweiler / Mixed (short coat). LOUIE is a friendly, smart 3-year old male mix available for adoption at CompAnimals Pet Rescue in Landenberg, PA. A fun dog for an active person! Follow him at Louie the Adoptable Dog! We found out from DNA testing he’s a fascinating mix of 74% American Pit Bull Terrier, 13% Chow Chow, 7% Rottweiler and 6% German Shepherd Dog! (We finally found out where his curly tail comes from – the Chow Chow!) With these strong breeds, we can see where he gets his confidence from. LOUIE is quiet in car, likes to watch out the window and willing to join any adventure. He’s jumped onto a high box at Crossfit (first try!), retrieved in a stream, walked on narrow steps and surfaces, gone to countless stores and main streets and met countless people with a friendly smile and cuddle. He’s all about being your companion on adventures. LOUIE’s living in a shelter, waiting for a fitting adopter to apply! He’s had a few applications (much appreciated!) and we’re waiting for someone who will exercise at least a little with him every day. He has a great training foundation and is a perky, good student. No fault of his own, he missed out on puppy socialization, so he’ll need someone to continue patiently guiding him through his excitement about meeting dogs. For this reason, we think he and his new family will relax the best if he’s the only dog in the home. He’s a runner’s dream companion because he trots along at human pace! Those of you who have jogged with a dog know what we are saying! His Pen Pal at the shelter (the person who visits him the most) has worked hard on leash skills and now he walks along nicely too. It’s been wonderful seeing him work this out! He’s waited a long time in the shelter, and he’s done a nice job doing everything he’s been asked. Please fill out an application at .CompAnimals . Adoption $200.

    Tabitha

    rescue
    Breed: Mutt
    Sex: Female Female
    Age: Adult
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Black Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat). Meet TABITHA! Tabitha recently arrived after her human mom passed away. She is a 6 yr old Lab mix who does well with other dogs (she was 1 of 6 in her previous home). Tabitha has moved into a foster home and is on an exercise and weight loss regimen - too many treats and a couch potato life has made her a bit rotund & currently weighing in at 100+ lbs! She is doing well in her foster home with resident dog, Tucker, and will make a great family dog! Tabitha has been checked out by our vet & is on a gradual weight loss program. She has also received her vaccinations and is heartworm negative and is microchipped. If you would like to add Tabitha to your family please fill out an application at panimals. Meet and greets will be set up with the foster family with approved application only. Adoption $200.

    Charlie

    verified

    rescue
    Breed: Labrador Retriever
    Sex: Male Male
    Age: Young
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Border Collie (medium coat). CHARLIE is a 1 1/2 yr old Lab, Border Collie mix. He was adopted from us as a companion for an autistic child but the family found it was not a good match in spite of their falling in love with him. Charlie still has a lot of puppy energy and would do best with an active family - he loves his walks but pulls a bit and could use an obedience refresher. Charlie will be an awesome family dog! His new family must follow through with puppy classes (this is something we were choir for all puppies but Charlie was never enrolled). Charlie has been neutered vaccinated and microchip, tested negative for heartworms and is on prevention. Adoption $200. Apply to adopt charlie at panimals. Meet & greets will be set up with approved application - thank you!

Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier-Bull Terrier Mix
    Sex: Male Male
    Age: Senior
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). OLIVER is a simple guy, with simple needs. He is always happy although sometimes we think the lightbulb is on but nobody's home. Approx 11 yrs old and 45 lbs, Oliver was originally found as a stray. We believe he is a mix of Pit Bull and Bull Terrier. He is a happy guy who loves life & has a big smile! Oliver will be a good friend and companion. Gets along with a lot of dogs but lacks doggie social skills so is best placed with a tolerant dog - currently Jada is his playmate at our adoption center. Oliver LOVES to play ball, go for hikes & rides in the car. Oliver is neutered, chipped, vaccinated & on HW prevention. Please fill out an application at panimals if you can give this comical guy a home. Adoption $165

    Apollo

    verified

    rescue
    Breed: Pekingese
    Sex: Male Male
    Age: Adult
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Pekingese (long coat). APOLLO is a 5 yr old Pekingese with emotional disorders. Apollo has been with us for a couple of years now and we have desensitized him as much as we can and have come to the conclusion that some dogs are "special" just like people and while we can't make him "normal" he can lead a somewhat normal life for a dog. Apollo has an OCD type of a disorder. Much like Howie Mande, Apollo does not like to be touched. When petted, or talked to with a baby voice, he will attack his tail. Sometimes he will become obsessed with shadows or sun spots. What we have found though is that he loves to hang out with you (on his terms - much like a cat) and he LOVES going for walks. Apollo is good with other dogs and will chase cats in fun but won't hurt them. Our groomer says "he needs a groomer with a sense of humor" but she does well with him and he improves with every visit. We have tried anti-anxiety medication which has made no difference. Apollo has moved into a foster home where he almost never has his tail-biting spells. The old adage "a tired puppy is a good puppy" definitely applies to apollo - he is more relaxed after a good walk. Since Apollo is considered "special needs", he will be available only to a family who can continue to work with him As we have - on his terms. Although he cannot be "fixed", he can be good company and an excellent walking companion. Apollo has been neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and tested (neg) for heartworms. Adoption $100. Due to his special needs, we will only adopt Apollo out locally so that we can be supportive in his care. Apply for Apollo at panimals

    Leroy

    verified

    rescue
    Breed: American Bulldog
    Sex: Male Male
    Age: Senior
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: American Bulldog / Pit Bull Terrier (short coat). LEROY, above all the other animals in our care, embodies the spirit of CompAnimals Pet Rescue and the level of commitment we give to our animals for their entire lives. Here is his story: About 10 years ago I got a call from a senior citizen who was trying to catch a stray pit bull in her neighborhood in Elkton. The dog would follow children around but eluded adults. She was worried the SPCA would pick him up and euthanize him. The Cecil Co SPCA had a "no pit bulls" policy at the time. So for 3 weeks I tried to catch him, make friends with him, bribe him and for 3 weeks the SPCA was bent on catching him as well. Luckily, with the help of a butcher (who lived in the same neighborhood and had been giving him fresh beef) I was able to capture him. He was super friendly and hopped right in my car. We had him vetted and aside from a hairless patch on the top of his head he recovered from his ordeal pretty quickly. I fostered him myself. He had a distinct hate of cats and for that reason I wasn't able to keep him permanently. He did get along with other dogs and was a well mannered guest. It was probably a year or so before he found his "forever" home. Leroy seemed to have lucked out - he had a boy of his own and a big grassy yard. We didn't hear much from him after the initial settling in. There were other dogs to rescue and Leroy was starting his new life. Fast forward about 4 years - tragedy struck and Leroy's family fell apart. His mom was sick, the house was in foreclosure, Leroy was living in an empty house. We got a call that the family could no longer care for him. Leroy came back. Due to the family's lack of finances and the stress of it all, Leroy was in horrible shape. His skin condition which, looking back through vet records, had never been fully addressed. He was bald, scabby, bloody and thin. His head was sunken in. His hair loss was so great that you couldn't even distinguish what color he was. He wagged his tail. Antibiotics and prednisone kicked back the skin a notch but again it never fully recovered. He developed demodex, a type of mange, due to the pred suppressing his immune system. We sent him to a foster home hoping to boost his spirits and give him more 1-on-1 care. Another vet was added to his repertoire. More antibiotics, supplements, shampoos but still his skin was slow to recover. Some prickly hair poked through but not as much as we had hoped for. He developed a sore on his ear and one on his toe which was so painful he didn't want to walk. A culture was done and revealed not one, but 3, drug resistant bacteria. One was resistant to ALL antibiotics. The drugs that we had been giving him were slowly killing him. Fast forward to a year ago, stopped all Western medicine and enlisted the help of Always Helpful Veterinary Services & Dr Judith Shoemaker. To first visit was hours long as she worked up a plan and refining if supplements, powders and remedies. I noticed her lack of concern at the "flesh eating bacteria" - a condition so bad that one vet wanted to amputate part of his ear and toe and another felt it was hopeless and he should be euthanized. She was most concerned with his painful eyes. He has a condition called entropean where the eyelids roll in and the leashes rub against the eye. Leroy responded quickly under the watchful eye of Dr Shoemaker. His coat came in glossy and now covers about 2/3 of his body. His skin still has flare ups but not more drug resistant bacteria. He was tested for food allergies and put in an appropriate diet. To someone meeting Leroy today, for the first time, he looks like a wreck - like he was just rescued. But to those of us who have seen him in the road to recovery, he looks beautiful. Leroy has a pan pal who he's him out every week for his medicated bath and some R&R. This same wonderful pen pal is covering most of his medical expenses (thankfully Always Helpful has a monthly payment plan!). She has offered to continue with his support even after he is adopted. Leroy is now pushing 10 years of age. We would love for him to find his special home but if not, he is welcome to live his life out with us. Somewhere along the line he decided he didn't want to get along with other dogs - his Dr thinks it is because he felt so crappy. He has never lost his love of people - especially children. Leroy adopted kids! He is currently getting a break from shelter life and is in a "vacation" foster home for a few weeks. Check out the video his foster mom made for him. If you can be Leroy's guardian angel please fill out an application at panimals

Posted Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier (short coat). GRACIE is a pint sized powerhouse! A 2 1/2 yr old Pit Bull Terrier, she was relinquished with another dog when their young owner fell on hard times. Gracie is an active girl but quickly switches to couch potato mode. Although she got along well with her housemate, she isn't receptive to new dogs and would be best as an only pup. Gracie knows basic commands, is housebroken and crate trained. She enjoys her walks in the park and would like a family who can get her out to explore. Rides great in the car and She's the perfect size for traveling! Gracie has been spayed, vaccinated and will be microchipped and heartworm tested prior to adoption. Adoption $200. Breed: Cojack
    Sex: Male Male
    Age: Senior
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Jack Russell Terrier / Corgi / Mixed (short coat). ROCK is a 10 yr old Jack Russell/Corgi who was surrendered because of "too much responsibility". Don't let the gray muzzle fool you - this guy can go! Rock is very good at riding in the car. He listens to basic commands to come, go lie down, sit, etc. He enjoys walks but also cuddle time. He has a very happy, pleasant personality. Likes to sit on your lap, and belly rubs. He's not destructive of household items. Rock seems best with dogs his own size or would be fine as an only dog so he could soak up all the love and attention. Not cat compatible. At 18 lbs he is a great, portable size. He loves kids and hiking adventures! He also loves to chase critters so a fenced yard is preferable in addition to his daily walks. Rock has been neutered, vaccinated and microchipped and is ready to go home with you! Adoption $165. Please fill out an application at panimals if you can give Rock a fur-ever home.

Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier-Unknown Mix
    Sex: Female Female
    Age: Adult
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). TWINKLE TOES is a gorgeous girl of 6 years of age. Although she still has puppy playfulness she settles down nicely for couch potato time. Twinkle was neglected in her previous life and would love a fur-ever home where she is considered an integral part of the family. Very sweet once she gets to know you but she takes a little while to warm up to new people! Twinkle picks and chooses her doggy friends and is best paired with a laid back male or fine as an only pup. Not cat tolerant. Twinkle came to us after nipping anpotential adopter at another shelter - thankfully they saw her good points and allowed her to go to rescue. Twinkle’s new family will protect her while keeping her safely social. Twink loves hikes and is very athletic - a great adventure partner! Twinkle has been spayed and vaccinated and will be micrichipped and heartworm tested prior to adoption. Please fill out an application at panimals prior to setting up a meet & greet. Adoption $200.

Level 5 (1-9%) STAFFORDSHIRE BULL TERRIER The description of the Staffordshire Bull Terrier fits Mellie to a 'T': "Totally fearless and tenacious, the Staffordshire Bull Terrier does everything full throttle!" MELLIE is athletic 5 yr old mix, approx 40 lbs. She would do well in any sport and LOVES to learn. A graduate of Greenwood Dog Training (basic obedience) and would enjoy going to advanced classes. Mellie get along with dogs picks and chooses her doggy friends - her "type" seems to be big, lunkhead boys - but we feel she would do best as a one-and-only.
