Posted Breed: Jack Russell Terrier / Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: $200. Thank you for your interest in dog who needs a new home. Adoption can be one of the most fulfilling experiences in your life and especially in the life of your new canine companion. A note to those looking at CPR. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. Our job is to find those someone's. Our most successful adopters come to CPR not because they want a dog. They come to us because they want to give a dog a home. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. Our descriptions contain all that we know about this dog today. We'll update as more information is known. Are you looking to adopt within the next 30 days? If so please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and complete the application. You'll find it in the menu on the left hand side. You'll also find a total listing of all our dogs available. Just browsing but interested in poodles and poodle mixes? Please drop a note to applications@carolinapoodlerescue.org with your name, address and phone # and email. We'll add you to our mailing list. thanks the CPR Adoption team Play all day! Date into Rescue: 6/3/2017 Reason for being in rescue: Pulled from a rural shelter, was originally found as a stray. Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? Hugo was tested for heart worms when he arrived at the farm in June of 2017. He was treated for heart worms with the slow kill method, and tested negative in April of 2018. No more heart worms! Weight: Estimated 13 lb Height: Estimated 11 in at the shoulder Spayed/Neutered: Yes Adoption Fee: $200 Fence needed? A fence would be great until I learn to leash walk. What kind of home would be best for me? I need a home with sweet people willing to love on me once I warm up to them. Hugo would make a great dog for a person that enjoys independent dogs that knows how to keep themselves happy. What is my personality like? I was found in another state and brought to one of their rural shelters as a stray. My past is unsure but I would love to find a family to help me forget all of the bad stuff. I am head shy. If you come at me to fast with your hand I will tuck down because it startles me. I am very curious and love to explore my surroundings. When I first came to CPR, I was very timid and needed a lot of work. Since Hugo has been with us, we have noticed he is a very head strong type of guy. He does not look for anyone else's opinion and has his own little mind. Hugo is a very loving and hyper boy. He loves to play, but can sometimes be too much for other dogs, which Hugo does not like. This means that Hugo needs to be in a home with a dog that is alright with his energy and goofy personality, or a home with no dogs. He absolutely loves all people and will take a belly rub from anyone. Hugo will become a relaxed and lazy boy once he has a little bit of playing time out of his system. Update 1/23/2018: The longer Hugo is here, the more of a love bug/ attention hog he becomes! All he needed was a little time to settle down from the drastic change in his life. He hits the floor every morning full of life and ready to be outside in the sun. Hugo loves to play with humans, He likes to pounce at you trying to initiate a game of tag. This boy will be after your own heart. Note that he only gets along with certain dogs. He is working hard turning his charm up a notch to get noticed, he wants a home! How do I act when I first meet new people? Friendly but shy. Other tips and tidbits: I don't care much for treats or toys so far. House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. Please note - we do not ship dogs. If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip. Most of our dogs are at our farm in Pacolet, South Carolina. To apply, please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and visit the tab on the left that directions you to the online application. Please note that when screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, color, age, etc. Others here may be a better fit for you. It is very difficult to get to know a living animal from a picture and a short description. Since we are constantly getting in new dogs, this may be a dog not in our listings yet. We want you to be very happy with your new companion and will make suggestions based on what you tell us about you. Thank you for considering CPR.

Date into Rescue: 5/26/2017 Reason for being in rescue: Found as stray Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? Huckabee had heartworms when he came to the rescue in May of 2017, we have treated his heartworms with what is called the "slow-kill method" and he is now heartworm negative! He no longer has heartworms. Weight: 24.3 lb Height: est 20 in at the shoulder Spayed/Neutered: Yes Adoption Fee: $200 Fence needed? Yes What kind of home would be best for me? Huckabee is looking for a family with a lot of experience in taking care of dogs. A typical hound, Huckabee has a strong personality and a desire to shape a really nice basic personality into a wonderful dog. Huckabee is bright - and bright kids need loving structure or they will take advantage of you. What is my personality like? Huckabee is a sweet lovable boy but he's definitely a strong personality. For example, he walks on a leash, but he likes to lead. He is intent on going where he wants. He is also good at slipping between feet and through gates. That can be dangerous and he needs to be taught to respect boundaries. He has spent time playing with dogs much larger than he is and did well. He loves the freedom of a fenced in yard to run and play in. A very sweet boy who would love to find someone to play with and to snuggle with. Not great on a leash, but manageable. I would recommend a harness, as he seems unable to connect straining the leash and choking himself. He is food motivated, and occasionally will play with a toy. If he is with another large dog, he is a little scared and wants to make sure he isn't trampled on. Didn't seem to mind the cats. How do I act when I first meet new people? Friendly and inquisitive. Other tips and tidbits: When introduced to a new group of dogs and a new area of our farm he had not been to in the past, he enjoyed the stimulation of a new environment, smelling new smells and marking his territory. So far, we've introduced Huckabee to a kitten who is not very active yet as she is too young . Our caregiver could not make a good call on whether he would be good with cats based on this one encounter. He wasn't aggressive, but at that point he was overwhelmed by seeing new dogs and new smells and a new place. He was busy taking it ALL in. He'll need to be cat tested again if a cat owning home is interested. The boy is a good guy. But he is young and very active. He can't focus on one on one time. His mind and body are going in many different directions. He's a cutie and he needs some work *as most young dogs do) but he has a great disposition, and that you can't teach. UPDATE FROM CAREGIVER 1/30/2018: Huckabee is just a lovable boy that loves to run and play. He has a well tempered personality and has shown no aggression towards people, dogs, cats and his crate. He is not here to stir up trouble but to be loved and shown affection! He is young so he still needs basic training but he is trainable and highly treat motivated. The caregivers think he would make a great dog for a family with happy kids and/or other dogs to play with. Yes - Diabetes Insipidus. What does that mean? Buckles drinks water - all day - and urinates frequently as a result. This is a rare form of diabetes that is caused by a deficiency of the pituitary hormone (vasopressin) which regulates kidney function. This disorder is very uncommon and is not curable. To put it simply - her kidneys can accept water but can't process it correctly, so water passes through her body very quickly. Thus, she urinates frequently and must have 24/7 access to water. Buckles is currently on a hormone-replacement medication (given through eye drops twice per day). It does help some. We are working with her to find out what is the best dosage for her. The medication is about $120 per month. Weight: 13 lb Height: est 13 in Spayed/Neutered: Yes Adoption Fee: $I'm special! Fence needed? Yes - Buckles is very active and loves to run. What kind of home would be best for me? Buckles does have a "house training" issue only because of her condition. For someone who is retired and is home all the time, her house training isn't much of a problem. She must be taken outside every two hours, and her house training is basically controlled. She would love a house with a doggie door. She goes to the door in her foster home if she needs to go out. She wears diapers if her foster mom is going out more than 2 hours. Buckles cannot be deprived of water as it can be fatal to her. What is my personality like? All that sounds frightening and it is but there is more to Buckles than bad plumbing. Buckles is spunky, friendly and loving. She is energetic and must have a fenced in yard to run in. She gets along with other dogs and cats and would be a great playmate to another dog her size or larger. Buckles is eager to please and bonds quickly. How do I act when I first meet new people? Happy, friendly and gregarious. Other Tips and Tidbits: Despite her condition, Buckles is a very happy girl and very adaptable! Her foster mom says she's the easiest dog she's ever had. Date into Rescue: 5/30/2017 Reason for being in rescue: Found as a stray in eastern North Carolina Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? None noted Weight: 50 lb Height: about 24 in at the shoulder Spayed/Neutered: Yes Adoption Fee: $200 Fence needed? Yes, she is very energetic! What kind of home would be best for me? Mia would be great in a number of settings as long as her people are energetic and do a lot. She is a lot of girl. She is good with other dogs and didn't react to our cats here, so should be good with a cat in the home. She is not a fan of children 10 years or younger; her forever home must have older, mature kids or adults only. What is my personality like? Mia is a very beautiful girl. She is very sweet as well , if given the chance she will love on you all day. She's a big lap baby. She enjoys playing fetch and learning new things! She’s a quick learner and very smart, she knows basic commands “sit” “stay “ and we are working on "lie down" , she's catching on quickly! She loves belly rubs once she throws herself into your lap. Mia walks well on a leash and would make a great hiking buddy! She likes to run and play so she needs a home with plenty of land to run. She’s going to need a family that likes to go to keep up with this girl! How do I act when I first meet new people? Mia needs an active home that understands that big girls need play time and running time. She'd be a great running companion. Other tips and tidbits: She has lots of energy and does well with the big dogs in the field. She doesn't pay any mind to the little dogs. House trained? Date into Rescue: 1/26/2017 Reason for being in rescue: Owner release along with her siblings because the owner could not care for the dogs any longer. Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? None noted Weight: 38.8 lb Height: Estimated 8.5 in at the shoulder. Spayed/Neutered: Yes Adoption Fee: $200 Fence needed? Fence is recommended until she is fully leash trained What kind of home would be best for me? June needs a home that understands working with an under socialized dog. June is ready to bloom into a wonderful pet! June has the potential to be a great, completely loyal dog with the right patient person. She has been cat tested and does not mind them. She is also okay with other dogs as long as they are not overbearing and do not scare her. What is my personality like? June has no idea what it is like to completely be someone's "loved pet". She needs work with being socialized. Although she is still weary of new people, she has improved quite a bit since she first got to CPR. She allows certain caregivers to love on her and she showers them with kisses. If you open up your heart to her, she will gladly walk in, four paws and all! June is slowly improving, but she can be very anxious and scared. Once she shows her trust personality, she is a very sweet girl and loves to keep your attention and "talk" with you. How do I act when I first meet new people? Weary and shy, but wants to be loved and quickly attaches to those she bonds with. Other tips and tidbits: June needs to continue working on her leash training and commands. She doesn't love her crate, but is crate trained. June LOVES to be brushed! House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. Our most successful adopters come to CPR not because they want a dog. They come to us because they want to give a dog a home. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. While we like to know what you like in looks, a dog is more than a pretty face. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families. We'll add you to our mailing list. thanks the CPR Adoption team I'm starting to wonder if I will ever find my forever home.. Can anyone help me? Date into Rescue: 2/28/2017 Reason for being in rescue: Released by previous owner because they were relocating to a new place Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? none noted Weight: 45.4 lb Height: About 24 in at the shoulder Spayed/Neutered: Yes Adoption Fee: $200 Fence needed?& A fence would be helpful until she is acclimated to her new home. What kind of home would be best for me? Brielle needs a quiet, more reserved home with owners that have a soft spot for timid dogs. Brielle is reportedly a 3rd generation shepadoodle - german shepherd and standard poodle. But since she looks so much more like a labrador retriever, we've put that breed instead. Brielle reportedly has some standard poodle in her but we don't see much and she does shed. She is good with other dogs and fine with cats. What is my personality like? Brielle came to the farm as an owner release with a few others. From day one she has always been timid and scared while her other siblings have come out of their shells and found homes. Brielle is the type of dog that will need plenty of one on one time to get her where she needs to be in life. Everyone at the farm has worked with her and she will now take treats out of our hands, but she could really use help in a permanent home to help her grow. She has great potential with a sweet and gentle nature and just needs a special person to help her along her way. How do I act when I first meet new people? Cautious but warms up Other Tips and Tidbits: ‚ÄčUpdate 10/05/17- Brielle has come a long way since she first came to us. She is sweet and will allow some love from people she is with everyday. She wants to trust people and find a forever home, but she just needs time and patience. She does perfectly fine with all dogs, and they help her relax and learn that we people are not so bad. Brielle needs an understanding human that has a soft spot for dogs with troubled souls.

Date into Rescue: 5/2/2017 Reason for being in rescue: Owner release/health of the owner Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? none needed Weight: About 45 lbs Height: est 22" at the shoulder Spayed/Neutered: Yes Adoption Fee: $200 Fence needed? Yes What kind of home would be best for me? I need a home with no other smaller animals, and where I can be loved of course! What is my personality like? He is a whole lot of dog. His owner did tell us that he has had problems with other dogs, especially little dogs, so we have not tested him with others nose to nose. This can be done on request but Charlie is so people focused we'd really like to find him a home as an only dog. Note that dogs can walk by his crate all day or he can be with other dogs with a fence between them with no issues at all. Dogs who want to be only dogs are rare. He is an ideal candidate for someone who only wants one dog. Charlie is physically very strong! He pulls on his leash and for some reason has an obsession with the shower in the kennel because if given the chance he runs straight for it. We don't have a pool but I'd love to see this water loving dog doing some hiking where he can splash in the creeks. How do I act when I first meet new people? Friendly. Other tips and tidbits: Charlie doesn't know basic commands but he is learning he has to sit for his treats. I think he will be a fast learner. He would need a fence. He is very friendly with the adults in our kennel but has not been tested with kids. On our walk he kept his nose to the ground and was full speed ahead! He didn't bark when meeting new people and was perfectly okay with them approaching him to love on him. UPDATE 1/30/2018: Charlie truly lives to please people. His whole world begins and ends with humans. As soon as you walk into the kennel and make eye contact with him his tail immediatly starts to wag and he does his happy dance. This boy is not hard to win over what so ever, and he will surly be after your own heart! Since being here we have learned that Charlie DOES NOT like other dogs. He would prefer to be the only pet. He has learned to sit, to go in his crate, give shakes, and to go straight to the door when being let out. Charlie is easily trainable due to him just wanting to please you. Just like any other young lab he loves tennis balls and really really loves being let out into the bigger field we have, he loves to get his exercise! House trained? She was originally released by her owner, no reason given. Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? None noted Weight: 19 lb Height: Est 14 in at the shoulder Spayed/Neutered: Yes Adoption Fee: $200 Fence needed? No What kind of home would be best for me? Zoey would love any home where she is offered love and somewhere to lay her head at night. This girl is not hard to please! What is my personality like? I already knew Zoey was a sweet and loving girl, but she pleasantly surprised me. She walks great on leash, couldn't ask for any better! She got along great with Bobby Grey (the cat), they even started to play together a little. She is one big love bug that is seeking someone to be the center of her universe. She gets along fine with all dogs and has such a wonderful disposition about her. She knows how to sit on command and actually likes to chase after tennis balls. It's very endearing seeing her enjoy her time outside of her cottage. Zoey isn't afraid to let you know what she wants, she is vocal when she wants attention or food. When Zoey loves she loves with all her heart, so she does resource guard people and food. She is okay with other dogs and cats, as long as they don't try to take her favorite things. She's low key and doesn't require too much, she would just be happy to be in a loving home and have that happy ever after. How do I act when I first meet new people? Sweet - loves people! Date into Rescue: 6/16/2017 Reason for being in rescue: Owner release due to the declining health of the owner. Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? None noted Weight: 18 lb Height: About 13 in at the shoulder Spayed/Neutered: Yes Adoption Fee: $200 Fence needed? No - Sissy walks well on leash What kind of home would be best for me? Beautify Sissy was once the apple of her dad's eye but eye surgery robbed him of his sight and he could not look out for Sissy. During this time, they lived at an assisted living facility, Sissy got very protective and even though Dad told people not to come to his apartment when he was gone for Sissy didn't like that, a housekeeper did. Sissy took offense to the intrustion and chased the housekeeper out, nipping her in the process. Sadly, housekeeper's do not take kindly to that and reported the incident. Sissy's choices were looking very slim when CPR stepped in. Sissy's best home would be one that has a separate house and that understands that, as long as she knows she's not in charge, she has no reason to resource guard. Sissy also gets along ok with other dogs, but would also be very happy being an only dog. What is my personality like? Sissy has lived a fairly quiet life but because they lived in assisted living, she met a lot of people and is actually fairly social. She doesn't do well with lots of chaos and I think longs for the quiet days sitting on her dad's lap, but she does need a lot more exericse than she was getting and she is thriving living on the farm and walking with her foster pack. How do I act when I first meet new people? A bit stand offish but she is friendly enough. Other tips and tidbits: Sissy is one of the few dogs we do not crate train. She is pretty well house trained although she'll need reminders. She loves to sleep cuddled up next to her foster dad at night. House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained.
