    PATCH III-AD...

    verified

    rescue
    Breed: English Setter
    Sex: Male Male
    Age: Adult
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: English Setter (medium coat). Patch is a lovable energetic sweet boy. He is still quite the puppy at heart, even at 4 years old. He loves to go for walks, go on runs with my husband, and be outside watching all the happenings in our yard such as the birds and squirrels. His tail gets a wagging when we pull out the leash. He would love for his next family to be active outdoors. He does not need extreme physical exercise, but a morning and evening walk seem to work great as well as a few hours of play each day outside. He walks well on leash, and has been using the Easy Walk harness with great success. He would make someone a great running partner. He is doing great at the commands of "Heel" "Halt" and "Sit" on the walks. He does love cars, but he is learning that they are not as exciting as he once thought and to leave them as they go by. Patch was a kennel dog prior to coming into rescue. He is mostly potty trained, and is working on cues to tell us he needs to go outside. We find having a routine helps with this. He has not had an accident the last two weeks, but we make sure to give him plenty of opportunity to go out. He understands the word "Potty" and will go pee on command, but #2 is still a little bit of a waiting game. He loves his kennel and will kennel up for you with a treat no problem. He does great in the kennel over night and for up to 8 hrs- no barking, chewing, or accidents. After a long day of kenneling, he would need a long walk or romp in the yard to get his wiggles out. Underground fence or a fenced yard would be ideal for him. His recall is getting better, but will need continued work. A new owner would need to establish that bond with him. He comes to us most of the time from outside, unless he’s distracted by a scent or noise that catches his fancy. Then we just have to walk up to him and leash him to bring him in- he goes willingly every time. A tie out is not adequate, as he needs more room to run and gets kennel mentality on them and will pace. We have an underground fence, and Patch is very aware of what it means. He gets scared if he gets a warning beep or shock and will go to the door and not want to move around too much. You just need to coax him off the steps again and get him moving again. Someone used a training collar on him in his past life, and was not kind. So we use the training collar very sparingly. Again, he loves to please so positive reinforcement and just interacting with him are more than enough to change behavior or redirect him. He loves dogs and children. He has no aggression with dogs- he is a friendly boy. Our resident setter Cecelia loves him and they share food, toys, and treats with no problem. He would do well in a home with another dog, but also as a single dog too. He loves my children (8 & 5 years old), and understands not to jump or play too rough. He is good around smaller children too, and is very gentle. He rolls onto his belly to have them scratch him, and is an absolute sweetheart. He loves his toys, and gets very excited to retrieve a stuffed toy or play keep away. Warning- he loves giving licks and nuzzling. Patch came to our home barking at cars out the window. Now 3 weeks later this behavior is all but gone. His new family will just need to set boundaries of acceptable behavior and correct him if he falls back into them. He wants to please, so he has been a quick student on the rules at our house. He sits like a gentleman during dinner times. Most evenings he is happy to curl up next to your feet and be near his people. He retires to his kennel about 9 p.m. When we get up in morning, he sits quietly in his kennel until you call him for breakfast. The key to Patch is giving him your attention and time just like any dog. His first half of his life was looking at life through a kennel - now he to explore it and is looking for a forever family who will include him on their adventures. He loves his people and is still a young frisky pup at heart. He would be a great dog for someone who wants to nurture his playful side and give him new experiences and love. He is a lovable goofball. His personality is so incredibly sweet and he is a wonderful companion who loves to warm your feet and lay near wherever you are.

    LADYBIRD

    verified

    rescue
    Breed: English Setter
    Sex: Female Female
    Age: Adult
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: English Setter (medium coat). Hi! My name is Ladybird and I am a 6-7-year-old, active girl. Let me tell you a bit about myself. I’ve been with my foster family about one month and I am doing well. I live with a few setters and dachshunds at my foster home and I am happy to say that I get along great with each and every one of them! My house training is coming along nicely, and I have only had a few accidents! When my foster family is not home or at night time, I sleep in a crate and I am very comfortable in there now. My foster mom gives me a Nylabone with peanut butter and I go right in without any fuss. I am not a big barker at all, but I will talk and give the occasional “Roo”. I enjoy being outdoors and looking for birds. There are two cats that live here, and I like to chase them, A LOT. I will spend tons of time looking for them once I see one. Lucky for me that they like me! (After I said that I realized I should probably go to a cat free home.) Now a little note from my foster mom. Lady is a terrific dog! She is a petite girl weighing about 35-40 lbs. She is getting better with car rides and her leash skills are coming along. I think Lady would do great in any home as she loves all people and dogs that she meets. She will play with my young setter forever, both in the house and outside in the yard. They will even sit in the crate together!! We are working on “sit” for food and that is going pretty well. Lady is very smart and wants to please. I believe she would be a great addition for any family. If you are interested in adopting Ladybird, please fill out an application.

    NESSA

    rescue
    Breed: English Setter-Unknown Mix
    Sex: Female Female
    Age: Adult
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: English Setter / Mixed (medium coat). Nessa is an owner surrender approximately 2 1/2 years old and she is looking for a new home. Nessa is a girl that gets along with other dogs, the bigger the better, but she does require a slower introduction. She is a very sweet dog. She loves to curl up on the couch or at night in bed, she plays well with other dogs, she's a talker, and she has the softest ears or any dog on the planet. However, her current owner does not feel the environment that she has to offer is the correct environment for Nessa. Nessa has been described as having an attitude. She likes things on her terms. For example, if she is on the couch with her mom, she prefers that no other dogs join them, or if a new dog comes over, she may withdraw, if she is not comfortable. With that being said, she will need someone that is willing to work with her and direct her “attitude” into a more positive behavior. Nessa has not bitten anyone or even another dog, but she has given warning growls. She loves all things dog related – fenced in backyards, toys, snuggles, other dogs and for the most part does well at her current home, but for some reason, after two and a half years, they feel the environment is just not the right fit for Nessa.

    PEPPER/SPARK...

    verified

    rescue
    Breed: English Setter-Unknown Mix
    Sex: Female Female
    Age: Young
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: English Setter / Mixed (medium coat). Pepper (f.k.a Sparkles) is a very sweet, intelligent and lovable dog. Tiny and estimated at 1 year, maybe slightly younger. She does like being around her humans. Pepper has had zero accidents in the house. She is taken outside frequently as she is still young. Foster parents feel a home with other dogs tolerant of a very active puppy would be okay. They have two 10 year old English Springer Spaniels. One has no interest in engaging in play with any other dogs. The other will play when Pepper initiates and play tug of war with toys. The latter of the two will let her know when he's had enough.Pepper has been introduced to other dogs in the neighborhood inside of the yard with no issues. Also, a home with cats would be okay. Of course, it has only been a week since she has been around the 3 resident cats. She still needs to be reminded not to chase, but for the most part will leave them alone. They have voiced their dislike when she is too close. Using her name or the command "leave it," works to remind her not to get too close, along with the occasional swat from a cat. Pepper is being crated when her foster parents are not at home and at night as the cats have free run of the house. Crating during the night is in the fosters' bedroom, while, when they are away she is in a crate in the living room next to another dog occupied crate. The foster home does have a 2 1/2 year old toddler who temporarily resides there. Potential adopters need to understand that Pepper is highly active and does not understand her boundaries. The toddler is always supervised when around Pepper and as with any toddler, needs to be reminded not to run or become too excited around Pepper as she will jump, run after and try to engage in play, which can also include nipping. After all, Pepper is still in her puppy stage. Please note the toddler is not accustomed to being around a puppy so it is a learning experience for her as well. Along with her name, Pepper is learning commands such as, 'drop' when she returns balls when playing fetch or when she has something she shouldn't have, such as shoes; to 'sit', in general, or when given treats and to take them 'nice'. 'Leave it' is another command being worked on. Using a spray bottle with water deters bad behavior. As puppies with no training will sometimes do, she can nip to get attention. She walks ahead on the leash; however, when prompted, she will walk closer to her human. She does not pull. This is an area which can continue to be worked on. Pepper will benefit from a forever home that has a fenced back yard, will take the time to work with her on commands, exercise (walks and stimulated play) and being taken to obedience classes.

    BECKETT

    verified

    rescue
    Breed: Mutt
    Sex: Male Male
    Age: Baby
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Setter / Mixed. Beckett aka BBB (Big Boy Beckett) is a sturdy boy weighing in at 13.6#, but he is also very sweet. Becke tt has the cutest spotted feet and chest. He has learned to enjoy back scratches and ear rubs. He will give kisses…when he feels like it. He is fairly independent and can entertain himself with toys and bones, but also enjoys interaction with people. As with any puppies, please keep a few things in mind – they have sharp teeth and sharp little nails, and they will chase and grab anything that looks like fun to play with. If you have small children in the house, please be a proactive parent and supervise closely. Please also keep in mind that the puppies are changing almost daily – this is an important time for them to learn social interaction. I am happy to talk to anyone that is interested in a puppy, but please do not get offended if, after talking with you, I feel that another puppy may be better suited for you other than the one you are interested in. Beckett is located in Indiana.

    CODY IV

    verified

    rescue
    Breed: English Setter
    Sex: Male Male
    Age: Senior
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: English Setter (medium coat). Cody, a/k/a/ The Codemeister or Code Green, is a happy, energetic guy who does not look or act his 11 years of age. When he first arrived, he was marking often and chewing everything in sight. Less than 2 weeks later, and after being neutered, he has stopped marking and is almost completely house trained. He has had a couple accidents in the house, but this happens because he is so distracted outside by the breezes, deer, turkeys, etc. that he can’t focus on his business. There are just so many new things to watch and smell – can you blame the poor guy? Cody’s chewing has decreased over the last week however he still needs to be closely monitored. He is especially fond of paper/cardboard items and wires. The Codemeister has shown more interest in his toys lately so I am hoping this will reduce the other chewing behaviors. This handsome guy has thick, soft fur and big beautiful eyes. He loves to stand as close as possible to his humans whether inside or outdoors. He displayed an aggressive manner towards other dogs on two separate occasions since he has been with me. Those were the only two times he has crossed paths with other dogs while in my care. He has been around men, women and children and seems calm and affectionate with every human he meets. He is a very sweet guy who is ready to enjoy his retirement years with a family who will adore him. Cody would probably do best in a home without other pets where he either has a fenced yard or the opportunity to take some long walks. He's great on a leash!
