This adorable puffy dog came to Arwob as an owner relinquishmet, as they were taking him to the shelter because the owner had no financial means or interest in providing care for this senior family dog. He has been neutered and blood work and dental have been done He also had a large fatty mass over the base of the tail which has been removed. The owners mentioned they had him for 7 years, although his teeth would have placed him at an older age like 10yrs old. His poor mouth was just rotting and you could smell him in the same room, poor guy!! However, his physical exam was great! He went under two anaesthetic procedures without a problem, which means he likely has many more years and is READY to enjoy life with a loving family who is as loving as he is. Coco Puff has an ADORABLE lion cut right now since he was very matted and looks ADORABLE! He is very sweet and loving towards all people, he is good with dogs and is not cat tested. Crate trained. We would love to find a foster or adopter for this handsome little man. Submit an application online at arwob Don't wait...Submit an adoption application today! Pinto

    Breed: Jack-Rat Terrier
    Sex: Male Male
    Age: Young
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Rat Terrier / Jack Russell Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: $200. Please review our Adoption Process before filling out an application. Meet Pinto! Update -5/14/19 Pinto is hard to approach in open spaces. He can be happy with people when he gets to know them, but still backs away. A foster or foster to adopt home who can take Pinto San projects would be best as he certainly needs help with people trusting. He isn’t a flight vs fight teen and is pretty much full grown already. He likely would be good with children who are gentle, slow moving, and not intimidating as he doesn’t want to try to snap, bark, or bite, but just walks away or stays on the side lines. He makes friends with most dogs. Some he will play with all day long with and, with others, just occasionally. He used to be afraid of dogs larger than 30lbs, but he can actually be just fine with them as he gets to know them. In nervous settings, though, he could be fearful and take a while to come around. He is fine with Cooper and Hubbard.. two 50lb shepherds, so slow intros are good for him. He did like to be great friends with Patotas and Hazel, both 40lb dogs. Pinto can be in crates but would do best in a home who would crate the other dogs vs Pinto seeing the other dogs running around while he is in a crate. he tends to be around his friends. UPDATE - 3/12/19 Pinto is doing great! he is now BFF with Potatas and Toe, who are 40lb shepherd/lab mixes so his fear of larger breed dogs is really case to case ei just needs to get to know the dogs. He really loves people!! He is the type of dog that would be fearful around 'new settings' like going to the vet or being left in boarding unless he knows the people handling him and they are speaking softly to him. He is a very good dog! Pinto was rescued from a family who used to keep him in the backyard and the neighbor realized they got a puppy for Christmas and would leave it outside alone most of the day and noticed he would play with the kids when outside with him, but also observed both parents got a bit rough with him when they realized he would have gotten their laundry that was hung up to dry, got into the trash cans outside, or did something he wasn't supposed to. Thankfully, she got involved and asked if they would relinquish the dog to her; they did and she contacted us. Pinto was VERY human shy at first.Tthankfully she fostered him for the couple of weeks that she could and he trusted her and started to open up. Pinto will be shy at first, depending upon on the person he meets, but he will soon start to approach and be friendly. He will trust some faster than others. We don't know how he will be with children. He used to relate them as the positive in his life, but some children are fast moving so it would really depend on the family seeking to adopt Pinto and their children's personalities and how parents have raised them up to be around dogs, especially scaredy cats like Pinto. We would need to meet and see what Pinto thinks of kids. Dogs - HE LOVES small dogs, equal size or smaller than him, especially puppies. He is scared of big dogs and will shy away and bark at them trying to scare them off; he also has exhibited some naughty approach or snapping at them. We are working with him on this and depending on the large breed dog he interacts with. We just need to make sure we continue socializing and training him to make sure he acclimates to bigger dogs and if not friends with them, to at least not mind them and learn to properly approach them. He is crate trained and, like all rescues, will need basic obedience training. Not a big barker but when he barks he has a huge deep bark and is crate trained. Foster or adopter wanted. He will not be neutered until 3/11 and will be ready for meet and greets on or after Friday 3/15. A foster is really needed for this guy and we would be happy to do foster to adopt trials for him before an actual adoption for any potential adopters to make sure he and they are comfortable in a forever home situation. Savvy adopters would be best to help him thrive. If you would like to meet one of our animals, PLEASE fill out an adoption application. • Australian Shepherd-Unknown Mix Dog For Adoption in San Diego, CA, USA

    Cooper

    verified

    rescue
    Breed: Australian Shepherd-Unknown Mix
    Sex: Male Male
    Age: Adult
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Australian Shepherd / Mixed (medium coat). Adoption Fee: 250.00. Please review our Adoption Process before filling out an application. Looking to adopt an Aussie? If you are applying to adopt Cooper, we request you THOROUGHLY read this detailed and long bio to KNOW who Cooper is and what kind of adopter we are looking for him. Thank you! and check out his videos! Meet Cooper! Cooper was adopted from ARWOB back in 2015 when he was 5 months old. At the time he was adopted, he was a happy, loving, well behaved typical pup. He was full of shenanigans like most puppies, but he got along with all animals and people. A fantastic pup! Sadly, Cooper’s owners have relinquished him and he came back to ARWOB in September of 2017. He is now a full grown typical Aussie mix with a few trust issues towards strangers. We are seeking an experienced dog owner that has knowledge of Aussie personalities to keep Cooper mentally stimulated and physically active, and out of trouble! The ideal adopter will be a house WITHOUT children and preferably without cats. However, we do think he will be fine with children who are respectful of dogs and supervised. Cooper always says hi to children when out on walks or if they approach to pet him. Of course, this applies to the children who say hi in a none threatening manner. like most dogs Cooper will not tolerate a child pulling at his tail or approaching him inappropriately. He has lived in a home with multiple dog savvy cats and he will walk around them in the living room but his Foster notes he will try to take advantage of the cats who aren't supervised or cornered in a room of the home without direct supervision. For this reason, a home without cats is best Unless the home has a particular set up like his current Foster. When Cooper came back to us in September, it was because he nipped a friend who entered the previous owners' home, gotten to a chicken in the yard, as well as dog aggression, we didn't know what we were going to expect. We were pleased when we received Cooper and realized this guy is an amazing dog with just a few quirks — he needs a steady, safe, and structured home in order to build his confidence around strangers and new situations. WHO is Cooper as of 01/2018 Cooper is a 48lb dog who could lose 2-3 lbs. Cooper seeks to be loved. He melts in your hands when petting him and loving him. His smile is infectious when he meets new people who want to pet him, and he loves attention! He is SMART... oh, SO very smart! He has basic training like sit, stay, shake, and other easy basic commands. He is house and crate trained. He has never had an accident in the house. He doesn't destroy things, but he loves his toys. He loves food but is not a food hound., and he loves walks and car rides. He loves to cuddle in bed and is total love bug. He is not a big barker and the only time he barks is when hints are going around his home or if warning about something. He also is not a yappy dog when people enter the home or when he walks ei no leash reactivity, BUT there are certain situations and people or scenarios that will get him riled up and his new adopter will need to be observant to be able to avoid issues for example: when walking him and he encounters construction crews or gardners, also UPS trucks or motorcyclea, and scooters. He tends to get excited and bark at those when they go by. Cooper is great with dogs. He has lived with his Foster since he came to Arwob in September and there have been many dogs from different breeds, ages, and size. Cooper is good friends with many and with some it takes a little to come around, but he doesn't start or look for fights. He knows when a dog is alpha or a strong personality and he, too, can be growly with that introduction and easily correctable. Puppies or dogs who have no boundary concept and are in his face being "licky face" he will not tolerate and growl or try to snap, but if you correct the other dogs and they present themselves well, he will test them and slowly, over the period of couple of days, moves on. He, then, doesn't care that they do that and eventually, depending on the dogs personality, he will play with them. His BFF is Benny, the 25 Doxie shep mix, and Daphne, the 55lb black lab mix. He tends to share toys and likes to play keep away or tug of war wth people or dogs. Cooper is NOT a dog park dog. He needs further training and an adopter who will be willing and absolutely interested in signing up with a dog trainer/behaviorist to make sure a dog trainer assesses him and his new family to train BOTH parties on what is good and not. Cooper is an out of this world, easy loving, playful. smart, excellent companion, but he is NOT for everyone so he needs someone who knows how to handle a dog on the otherside of the leash....someone who is looking for an amazing companion in a dog , but not necessarily Mr Popularity. Any adopter is welcome to meet him and possibly have a trainer assess him to make sure he is the right match for you. Even better, Foster to adopt him for a month before you make the lifetime commitment. We love Cooper and someone is truly missing out on this amazing dog! Don't be scared and give him a chance. He is easier than you think, but work needs to still be done. We will request adopters show proof of enrollment with a trainer in order to adopt him. Good adopters understand the importance of structure and leadership... especially on working dogs and SMART dogs! We are in immediate need of a foster home for Cooper or a potential adopter that would like to take advantage of our foster-to-adopt program. If you would like to give this handsome boy the loving home he needs and if you feel you have the Aussie skills we are looking for, please fill out an online application right away. Don’t wait! Tac is currently fostered with a family who has children, dogs (small and large breed) as well as a cat. She is in a apartment living and doing great! She is also crate trained and has an amazing, sweet, gentle personality with a great demeanor. She is a small shepherd, full grown at the mid 40lbs Tac and Toe are likely siblings or related and they adore each other! The girls were rescued from someone in Tijuana who had too many dogs. We agreed to sterilize all dogs and slowly are trying to get these dogs into a better life. They are used to being outside dogs with not even a dog house and seek shelter as best they can. We think the girls will be a great family dogs because of their dispostions. Like many dogs like these, they seem to be house trained because they always want to go potty outside, BUT we can't say that they are house trained; they just haven't had accidents so far. They are learning crate training and we hope we can find a foster or adopter for these sweet girls. if you would like to adopt or foster to adopt one or both of these girls, please submit the dog adoption application online. Breed: Border Terrier-Unknown Mix
    Sex: Female Female
    Age: Adult
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Border Terrier / Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: $250. Please review our Adoption Process before filling out an application. Meet Trudie! Trudie was relinquished from a local San Diego shelter where she was under socialized, but we could see she had a LOT of potential, so we agreed to find her a forever home! She is a little nervous in new situations, but in the right environment she opens up pretty quickly. Trudie is a very smart dog and well behaved, but still needs guidance from humans especially regarding trust issues. She seems to trust women more than she does men, although she does well with men she knows. Realistically, there are certain people who she doesn't trust and takes longer to warm up to. Because of this, the ideal home is a family with no young children (although teens would be fine). Trudie needs an experienced and savvy dog owner who will work with her and understands when she feels intimidated. She seems to be the kind of dog that needs her space when she is in new situations, so it’s best to let her seek attention — she is definitely not an “in your face” kind of dog. Her adopter must be able to read her body language when going out and about because Trudie can feel intimidated if she is approached suddenly. Once Trudie starts to feel confident and warms up to her humans, she loves to seek attention and belly rubs! Trudie enjoy being quiet in her crate and relaxing, but she is also very fond of an active life style, such as talking long walks, hiking, and going to the dog park. She does well in the car and is leash trained. Trudie has been making excellent progress with her foster family. Here is what her foster mom has to say about Trudie: In the past few days she has started running around the yard and playing with my dogs. Trudie is still a little unsure of Charlie inside the house but she no longer lunges at him. She is eating great and has a good recall especially when I have treats! She has had a strong reaction to a few visitors, but after a few visits and a few walks, she has improved significantly. I took her to the Harvest Festival and she did better than I expected. She was confident walking around the event and even let a few men give her treats. I warned them ahead of time not to try and pet her and they didn’t push it. In just 2 weeks time I can already see a difference with her, but I know to take it slow and I’m always aware of what’s going on when we are out and about. All things considered I’d say Trudie is doing very well. She’s really no trouble at all and is fitting in to the household. If you would like to give Trudie the love and forever home she deserves, please fill out an online adoption application right away! She would love nothing better to become part of the family. Breed: Chihuahua-Unknown Mix

Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: $250. Please review our Adoption Process before filling out an application. ***** COURTESY POST ***** Gertie is NOT an ARWOB rescue and is under the care of another SD rescue group. We are helping network Gertie in the hopes we find the RIGHT temporary or forever family for her. The adoption process is the same and in order to meet her we require an adoption application to be submited online for review. Below is a little about Gertie. Please, read about her to determine if she is a good potential candidate for you and your family. Thank you Gertie is a 1 ½ year old Chihuahua mix. She was trapped after surviving weeks in the backcountry of San Diego. She and her brother Coby are believed to have been dumped. Neither was chipped or altered. No owner came forward or claimed them. While trapped separately, they were often seen in similar areas, during the same time frame. Though finally caught in different locations they immediately cried and wagged their tails upon seeing each other. Gertie is a super sweet, shy and submissive girl. She seeks attention and enjoys the company of people once you gain her trust. She is quick to show you her tummy and would love nothing more than to just hang out and snuggle. She does well with other dogs but is shy so a confident and stable mellow dog would be her best fit. She needs continued confidence in new situations, with new dogs and people so requires an owner willing to take introductions slowly. She would love to find that family willing to make her theirs forever and teach her how to be the best dog she can be.
