  • Jack-Rat Terrier Dog For Adoption in San Diego, CA, USA

    Pinto

    rescue
    Breed: Jack-Rat Terrier
    Sex: Male Male
    Age: Young
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Rat Terrier / Jack Russell Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: $250. Please review our Adoption Process before filling out an application. Meet Pinto! UPDATE - 3/12/19 Pinto is doing great! he is now BFF with patotas and Toe who are 40lb shepherd/lab mixes so his fear of larger breed dogs is really case to case ei just needs to get to know the dogs. He really loves people!! he is the type of dog that would be fearful around 'new settings' like going to the vet or being left boarding unless he knows the people handling him and speaking softly to him. He is a very good dog! Pinto was rescued from a family who used to keep him in the backyard and the neighbor realized they got a puppy for Christmas and would leave it outside alone most of the day and noticed he would play with the kids when outside with him, but also observed both parents got a bit rough with him when they realized he would have gotten their laundry that was hung up to dry, got into the trash cans outside, or did something he wasn't supposed to. Thankfully she got involved and asked if they would relinquish the dog to her; they did and she contacted us. Pinto was VERY human shy at first.Tthankfully she fostered him for the couple of weeks that she could and he trusted her and started to open up. Pinto will be shy at first, depending upon on the person he meets, but he will soon start to approach and be friendly. He will trust some faster than others. We don't know how he will be with children. He used to relate them as the positive in his life, but some children are fast moving so it would really depend on the family seeking to adopt Pinto and their children's personalities and how parents have raised them up to be around dogs, especially scaredy cats like Pinto. We would need to meet and see what Pinto thinks of kids. Dogs - HE LOVES small dogs, equal size or smaller than him, especially puppies. He is scared of big dogs and will shy away and bark at them trying to scare them off; he also has exhibited some naughty approach or snapping at them. We are working with him on this and depending on the large breed dog he interacts with. We just need to make sure we continue socializing and training him to make sure he acclimates to bigger dogs and if not friends with them, to at least not mind them and learn to properly approach them. He is crate trained and, like all rescues, will need basic obedience training. Not a big barker but when he barks he has a huge deep bark and is crate trained. Foster or adopter wanted. He will not be neutered until 3/11 and will be ready for meet and greets on or after Friday 3/15. A foster is really needed for this guy and we would be happy to do foster to adopt trials for him before an actual adoption for any potential adopters to make sure he and they are comfortable in a forever home situation. Savvy adopters would be best to help him thrive. If you would like to meet one of our animals, PLEASE fill out an adoption application. These 3 handsome brothers come to us from Ensenada. It was an owner relinquishment from a family whose shepherd had pups and had requested help. It’s protocol to always sterilize the adult dogs of a Gmail who contacts us with this type of situation and we were able to take the pups, when quarantined and vaccinated, to cross the border into foster families. These boys have a true and true shepherd personality and are loving, loyal, smart, and aware of their surroundings. They are crate trained and will need an adopter to teach them the ropes on all other doggy training. Gregor is the tallest and biggest, followed by Fremont, and, lastly, Hubbard. These 3 pups were rescued from Chapala, Mexico by an ARWOB volunteer who was visiting friends in that area. She rescued Feather, the little female pup, when she found out her owner (who also owned Feather’s mom) had a litter of pups and people would come and pick up the male pups leaving the female pup behind. Sadly, it‘s a common practice in Mexico to take males and leave females at their luck. The ARWOB volunteer sponsored Feather’s mom‘s spay and she stayed with her owner who was not interested in relinquishing her to us. Feather was flea and tick infested, her poor ears had a bouquet of ticks, and she was shy, running in a field afraid of people. After a few days, she was approachable and, ever since, she loves and trusts people now. We think she will be a medium size pup when full grown. sort of a collie/shepherd mix. Bow and Arrow were rescued by a local rescue group when one of their members noticed a truck driver, a few cars ahead of them, who tossed out a box and they realized they had pups inside. They quickly stopped to check them and there were no obvious injuries, They were taken to the vet to start vaccines and nothing was reported. The pups were in a dog kennel at the shelter and the staff asked the Arwob volunteer if we could take the pups as they were not going to do well with lack of food and space for them. The 3 pups were flown to the Tijuana airport where we picked them up and they are now in San Diego. They will be available for adoption the first week of April, but can also do a foster to adopt trial prior to their sterilization. We did realize one of the male pups has abnormal front legs and looks like a cowboy and has little arched legs. The pictures are not photoshopPedro and it’s what he looks like. We do have an appointment with a local SD board certified surgery department to do some diagnostics and assessment to see if they believe it‘s genetic or trauma, and if his legs need to be fixed with surgery or be who he is. He shows no pain or uncomfortable levels and acts like a normal, playful, active, loving puppy.
