Upcoming Litter Description
We're delighted to introduce our latest litter of purebred Lagotto Romagnolo puppies from the beloved pairing of Ginger (orange roan) and Mousse (white with brown spots)—both from exceptional imported bloodlines. This healthy group of six includes three males and three females, all AKC-registered and raised with the utmost care in our Washington State home. These strong, vigorous pups are already showing the breed's signature intelligence, gentle temperament, and curly, hypoallergenic coats. With excellent early latching, steady weight gain, and lively energy, they're off to a fantastic start under Ginger's attentive mothering. Most of these puppies are already spoken for by approved families, but we may have limited availability depending on final placements. They'll be ready for their forever homes on April 18, 2026, after full health checks, first vaccinations, deworming, and socialization. If you're interested in one of these premium, well-bred Lagottos—perfect for families, allergy sufferers, or active households—email us at NWLagotto@gmail.com to inquire about our application process. Breed overview
Lagotto Romagnolo
A.K.A.: Romagna Water Dog, Italian Water Dog, Lagotto, Truffle Dog, Romagnol Water Dog
Overview:
The Lagotto Romagnolo is an ancient and charming Italian breed, historically renowned for its exceptional truffle-hunting abilities. Originating from the Romagna region, their name literally means "lake dog from Romagna," reflecting their original role as water retrievers before specializing in fungi. Physically, they are medium-sized dogs with a distinctive, woolly, non-shedding coat that requires regular grooming to prevent matting. Their eyes are expressive, and their build is sturdy yet agile. Temperamentally, Lagotti are intelligent, affectionate, and eager to please, making them highly trainable and wonderful companions. They thrive on mental and physical stimulation, making them a good fit for active families or individuals who can provide consistent engagement. While they can adapt to apartment living if their exercise needs are met, a home with a yard is often preferred for their energetic nature. Generally healthy, some breed-specific health considerations include juvenile epilepsy and hip dysplasia, though responsible breeding significantly mitigates these risks. Their charming demeanor and unique heritage make them a truly special addition to many homes.
