Description
Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Petey came to EHR along with his brother Wagner when they were puppies. Both were adopted but now Petey has been returned to EHR's care. Being back at the kennel has been very stressful for Petey, but he has some great volunteer friends who have nothing but good things to say about him. He has lost his confidence and can be nervous with new places & things, but gives you unconditional love once he trusts. He looks to his people for direction and confidence, so he would benefit from experienced owners who can help him with this. He has gone through obedience training and is a fun loving boy. He absolutely loves going for car rides, too! Petey gets along with other dogs, but we think he would do best in a home without children right now. Can you help Petey get his second chance at finding a true forever home? If so, please fill out an application at EHRDOGS.ORG and be sure to ask for him by name! You will not be sorry you did!

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
