Description
Posted Breed: Shepherd / Mixed (short coat). Cross is a handsome 9 year old male, Shepherd mix...a darling boy with a huge heart. He’s a big boy, around 70 lbs. Cross is a Shepherd mix, maybe part retriever because he loves to retrieve tennis balls so much. He was actually obtained on Craigslist then abandoned at a local boarding kennel. He lived at the kennel for several years until finally finding his foster home. Cross is shy at first around new people, but is very affectionate after he gets to know you. Once he does, he is SUPER loving. His favorite best friend is Ginger, a mini lab mix also up for adoption. They were both abandoned around the same time and have been best buddies for years. If they got adopted together it would be AMAZING! But this is not required. Cross MUST have a medium size, playful female in the home. He cannot be the only dog as he would be lonely. He does best with female dogs. He can be very shy with men, as men didn't treat him the best early in life. He really needs a female in his home, as well as a tall fenced yard. The ideal home for Cross is a woman in her 40’s-50’s who’s still active, can be married but any man will need to have a sweet, loving personality to win him over. Also a home with a tall fence and a playful female dog, or who can adopt Ginger too!

Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
