Description
Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). Adoption Fee: 350. Surrendered first due to an older man's medical condition; the second time due to an unexplained injury of Buck's that was temporary and healed. We had an MRI done by a Neurologist and xrays done by an orthopedic specialist, and the only thing found was mild hip arthritis. He was inconsolable the first night he was dropped off at his foster home, then has been as quiet as a mouse. Seems to have some prey drive while on walks and is big and strong. His former family indicated that he's not good with other dogs, yet he has not shown any aggression while at his foster home. He was formerly housed with a female Shepherd. He has been lovely to spend time with, and we are seeking a forever home for this big guy. FENCED YARD REQUIRED; VET'S REFERENCE REQUIRED.

Overview:
The German Shepherd Dog, a truly iconic breed, originated in Germany in the late 19th century, primarily for herding sheep. They are easily recognizable by their athletic, medium-to-large build, typically weighing between 50-90 pounds, with a distinct double coat that can be black and tan, sable, or solid black. Known for their intelligence and loyalty, German Shepherds possess a remarkably trainable and courageous temperament, making them exceptional working dogs in fields like police and service work. While generally good with families when properly socialized, their high energy levels and need for mental stimulation make them unsuitable for apartment living without significant daily exercise. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as degenerative myelopathy, underscoring the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary care.
