Description
Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog / Labrador Retriever / Mixed. Age: 1 years Sex: Neutered Male Estimated Breed: German Shepherd Mix Weight: 44 lbs Good with dogs?: Yes, with proper introduction Good with cats?: Yes, with proper introduction Good with children?: Unknown but probably good Special/Medical Needs: No Energy Level: Low-Medium Adoption Fee: $650 Foster Home Location: Calgary Flaky is an affectionate and even-tempered gentleman, who recently arrived in Canada from Mexico, and is approximately 1 year old. He is intelligent, polite, and loves belly rubs. Flaky was living on the streets of Mexico and was suffering before he was taken in by a rescue organization, and then ultimately made his way up to Canada. Flaky is an excellent house guest, who is fully house trained and sleeps through the night in his crate. Flaky has met cats and is uninterested in them, and due to his time as a street dog, he is very smart when meeting other dogs. Flaky is suspicious when a dog is on a leash pulling towards him (aren't we all Flaky) and he can bark a warning. However, when he is properly introduced, Flaky is easy going with other dogs, and will carry on with his walk. Flaky loves to play in the backyard with his ball, and is working on returning it during games of fetch. He also enjoys his toys in the house which he will play with to keep himself occupied in-between his walking activities and his naps. Flaky has never barked in the house. Flaky would do well in a household with a comfy couch, a fenced backyard for playing ball, and lots of love, as he is more affection motivated than he is food motivated. Flaky does well on car rides, after being reminded that he needs to sit down in the back and not be standing up. When running errands, Flaky is content to stay in his crate, and he settles in his crate for a nap when you are out of the house. We would describe Flaky as a relatively easy dog, as he has mastered most things in a dog's life. He is good with meeting new people (as long as they understand how to greet a new dog), good with other dogs, indifferent to cats, walks loosely beside you on his leash (unless he smells something really interesting), takes long sun naps but still has energy to play and run with his people, sleeps well, and is just the most adorable guy ever! This guy is dreaming of a forever home who has someone home for at least part of the day, with humans that have lots of snuggles to give (and plenty of space for him on the couch), and is able to provide him with lots of walks and play time.

Breed overview
Overview:
The Sheprador, a popular crossbreed resulting from the union of a German Shepherd Dog and a Labrador Retriever, embodies many desirable traits from both parent breeds. Originating from designer breed efforts to combine the intelligence of the German Shepherd with the Labrador's friendly disposition, these dogs typically boast a medium to large build with a dense, weather-resistant coat that can range in color. Physically, they often exhibit the Shepherd’s strong bone structure and the Lab’s kind eyes. Temperamentally, Shepradors are generally intelligent, loyal, and trainable, making them excellent companions for active families. They thrive on human interaction and do best in homes with a yard, as their energy levels make apartment living challenging without significant daily exercise. While generally healthy, potential health considerations include hip and elbow dysplasia, common to both parent breeds, and eye conditions. Early socialization and consistent training are key to fostering a well-adjusted Sheprador.
