Description
Dog Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). Hi I'm Checkers. Check me out! I am a 3 year old German Shepherd, and quite a handsome boy if I do say so myself. I like to play with my kong and go on leisurely walks. I love people, and am very affectionate and loyal. My foster mom says I am a really good boy and so easy to have around. I would really like to have my own family to hang out with. I don't mind being left alone while you are at work, and I am completely house trained. I know how to sit and I walk well on a leash, but I don't like kitties. I hope you will want to come meet me. Come see this pup during adoption event hours. Please email Linda at lbredfiresbcglobal or call WT&F's Dog Team voicemail 707-812-9030 to get a jump on the process, ask questions, and/or to confirm they will be there. Dog adoptions are held at Napa Petco on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of every month - 1:00pm to 4:00pm. . This dog comes spayed/neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, heartworm tested negative, and more with an adoption fee/donation to Whiskers, Tails and Ferals in Napa, CA. Overview:
The German Shepherd Dog, a truly iconic breed, originated in Germany in the late 19th century, primarily for herding sheep. They are easily recognizable by their athletic, medium-to-large build, typically weighing between 50-90 pounds, with a distinct double coat that can be black and tan, sable, or solid black. Known for their intelligence and loyalty, German Shepherds possess a remarkably trainable and courageous temperament, making them exceptional working dogs in fields like police and service work. While generally good with families when properly socialized, their high energy levels and need for mental stimulation make them unsuitable for apartment living without significant daily exercise. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as degenerative myelopathy, underscoring the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary care.
