Description
Dog Breed: Shepherd / Mixed. Foster Or Forever Home Wanted: Meet Kira!! Kira is an adorable, happy, bouncy girl who loves to go on walks, hikes, fetch, play in water and rides beautifully in the car. She is up for any adventure that our volunteers take her on. And better yet, she walks well on a leash and knows a few commands like sit and wait. She continues to work with our volunteers on her basic obedience skills which is a breeze given that she is super treat motivated. This friendly girl is great with dogs, loves belly rubs, and is even crate trained! Kira would do best in an adult home with older, considerate kids. February 2, 2023 was the day we received an urgent plea from SEACCA about a very sick dog who had zero rescue interest. So being who we are, we pulled her to safety and soon realized she wasn’t sick at all. It's coming up on two years since Kira joined our rescue and we ask ourselves daily why this 3 year old social, fun dog hasn’t been adopted yet. If interested in Kira, email dogslabradorsandfriends or fill out our online application at .labradorsandfriends

Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
