Description
Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier (short coat). LANA - 4 years old, 70 pounds, house trained, kid & dog social, skin allergies LANA is a super sweet and friendly 4 year old girl who arrived at VBACAC with severe mange, allergies and malnutrition. Fast forward a year and she is still super sweet and friendly and healed up wonderfully with a little TLC and meds. Lana is great with other dog-social dogs who won't jump on her or insist she play rough. She is not high energy but does love to go for walks and enjoys riding in the car. She has to be around you, near you, by you, as long as you are there with her to give her an occasional belly rub. Lana has that rascally side as well as she has, in the past, gotten into the trash for food. LOL Gotta laugh at this one! *Lana will need to be on continued immunotherapy for life and most likely be followed by a vet specializing in allergies so please make sure you are ok with possible financial and emotional obligations. *Lana is currently in a foster home so just call VABCAC at 385-4444 to schedule an appointment to meet her!

Overview:
The American Pit Bull Terrier (APBT) is a robust and intelligent breed, originating in the United States from crossbreeding Old English Terriers and Old English Bulldogs for dog-fighting purposes. Physically, they are medium-sized, known for their muscular build, broad heads, and powerful jaws, typically weighing between 30-60 pounds. Their coats are short and come in a wide array of colors. Temperamentally, a well-socialized APBT is often described as loyal, affectionate, and people-oriented, displaying a playful and sometimes clownish demeanor. They can be excellent family companions, provided they receive consistent training and early socialization, though their high energy levels mean they thrive with active owners. While they can adapt to apartment living with sufficient exercise, a house with a secure yard is often preferred. Notable health considerations include a predisposition to hip and elbow dysplasia, allergies, and certain heart conditions.
