Posted Breed: Cattle Dog / Mixed (medium coat). Alta is appx 1-2 yrs old, and about 45 lbs. She is an outgoing, active girl. Alta uses a doggy door and has done really well with that. She is not fond of other female dogs, but with slow introductions has done fine with large males. She must have a fenced yard, so that she can be safe and follow smells without getting into trouble. Alta has adorable big ears and she is so happy her tail wags in a big circle! In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics.
