Description
Posted Breed: Shepherd / Mixed (short coat). *This is a courtesy listing.* Meet Suki! Suki is a beautiful 13 year old shepherd mix that weighs 55 lbs. She was adopted 12 years ago as a young pup, and sadly, now needs a new home for her golden years due to changes in her family. Suki is a sweet, well-mannered lady who knows how to sit, shake, and not beg at the table. As is common for senior dogs, Suki is hearing impaired and takes a daily chewable supplement for arthritis. She still enjoys going for walks up to a mile and wears a Gentle Leader harness. Suki naps frequently and loves spending time outdoors. She enjoys hanging out near her family but is also content on her own. Suki is great with people. With careful introductions and 10-20 minutes to feel comfortable, she also does well with other dogs. If you have a spot in your heart for a low-key senior, please consider adopting Suki! Contact Gene and Gayle at 858-663-7237 or bluebug789gmail with questions. *Frosted Faces Foundation has not assessed this dog medically or behaviorally.*

Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
